One game I was hitting them over anyone and everyone. I think it's a mental thing. Just got to commit yourself. Truth be told, I think the mental thing is what is holding me back. Not being aggressive enough and attacking the rim.

Euro step. Always worked hard on polishing it and I love doing it to draw fouls and And1's.

Step back/side/out mid-range/high post jumper.
I can't get to the rim like I used to, so I have been utilizing a 8 foot finger roll high off the glass. Works pretty well.
Triple threat jab steps then jumper or fake drive out of the triple threat and step back jumper. It's got to be the easiest move to create space for a shot.

Turnaround jumper going left. Its money 1on1.
I used to be able to do one going right as well, but I havn't practiced it in too long so it went to shit. Now I just practice the left one, but try to put in some fakes and work it that way.

Slicin through D's and getting fouled. Nailing open 3s. Good eyes. Etc

I like to post up and do a bank hook shot and a turnaround bank shot. I'm pretty consistent with those but I'm a reliable three point shooter as well.

Or, it's muscle memory.
If only someone would bother to study this with science!

No, its all belief. The mind is very suggestive and any doubt can cause the suggestion of missing shots.

I just lower my shoulder and take a jump hook in the paint or an awkward looking flip shot... Thats all I can do. I can also shoot reaallly wide open 3s, not rushed ones. I also get putbacks on offensive rebounds

i dunno why i always have problems with it. i seem to rush and wind up floating it too high or not getting enough arc on it and over shooting the basket

I was never an offensively minded player. I just liked to hit people with screens and throw some laser assists.
The one thing I did love to do was "act" in the post. First time I'd get the ball I'd love to pass out after a lame shoulder fake or something, make it look like I couldn't do anything. Second time I'd get it I'd fake the pass out which would get my defender to back off, then either spin right past him or hit the hook.

Forget the floater. It's just a scared layup attempting to avoid the length of taller defenders and an excuse to get an inside shot off. It's better to just develop a quick 10-15 foot midrange jumper because it will catch the defense by surprise and there is a lot more margin for error when shooting with two hands. The defenders want you to bring the ball to them, develop the quick pull up as a weapon, then add a hesitation later to draw them away from the hoop so you can finish with a layup.

My go-to move is the long 3. I just run around the perimeter, waiting to get open. I'm like Korver with less accuracy (and about 8 inches shorter)
Mon Nov 08, 2010 9:49 am
PDub, I'm going to try and develop that pull up mid range jumper that you mention.

When I pull up presently, it's usually fairly far out close to perimeter, I guess I got to commit myself to pulling up closer to the rim.
Anyways, fyi, our basketball courts have the new fiba three point lines.

so a bit further out and a bit more of a challenge.
Mon Nov 08, 2010 10:27 am
yeah that's a good idea. every time i get inside for a layup there's contact and i don't weigh much so i get bumped out and you can't really call a foul on that so midrange is the way to go.
Mon Nov 08, 2010 10:36 am
Well, the in-between move (whether floater, tear drop or even pull up j) has never really happened for me. I guess I always tell myself 'if I'm this far, might as well go all the way to the rack'. So I always try and attack the rim or make a split second pass in mid-air. :S

The X has been saying I should develop them.
I'll agree with The X, at your height floaters are really useful when going against shot blockers camping down low
Anyhow, I have a couple of moves that I favor and usually works for me, they include..
1. Pull up mid range jumper - I usually fade on this one as well, much better going to my right than my left though
2. Turnaround fadeaway from post - Much better turning to my left than to right
3. Post spin reverse layup - quick spin towards baseline, go up and finish on the otherside.
4. the "Iverson stepback" jumper
5. Mid range bank shots
On the other end of the floor I'm a lock down man on man defender

There is nothing wrong with going all the way, but you want to keep people guessing and add more to your arsenal.

It's rare that I have to ask this, but sarcasm?

Yeah, the latter is one reason why I set this up. Gonna get some more ideas.

Would help since I'm a midget.

First sentence, yeah. But the second holds does hold some truth to it. Doubt can cause you to hesitate, lose focus and put up bricks.

Those are my 3 favorite go-to-moves i do in a game
1.While on the one side, quick dribbling taking the central line, and then when near on the free throw line, doing the up and under layup in order to avoid the opponent forward/center
2.penetrating inside and when entering the paint making a pump-fake and then laying the ball under the opponent who had jumped cause of the fake. Also there's another version of it i like doing, using the Dream Shake-like move.(Saw it from Steph Curry last year and used it much from that time)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3pIsA0Q0d0 (though Olajuwon is a master on this)
8 times out of 10 the defender falls into the fake and jumps for the block
3.after getting the pick, going inside and then stopping immediately for the quick midrange jumper.Really useful it seems, now with the new rules especially as the inside area is bigger.Started doing this lately and really helps.

I do a Dirk like move where you stop driving in the lane then fake the ball in a circular motion.
