Redd scores 58, Cavaliers eliminated in OT
Bucks (119) - Cavaliers (115)

    Image
    Redd scored a career-high 58 points.

Michael Redd scored a career-high 58 points, including 9 in the OT period, to lift the Bucks over the Cavaliers for the fourth consecutive game. The Bucks second round opponent are either the Miami Heat or the Detroit Pistons, the winner will be decided in game #7.

Redd scored 25 points in the first half, 16 in the fourth quarter and 9 in overtime to get his total up to 58, which is the third highest scoring output in NBA Playoff history behind Michael Jordan (63) and Elgin Baylor (61). He shot lights out from everywhere - 22-35 from the field, 7-12 from distance and a perfect 7-7 from the line.

Brandon Jennings also had a stellar game for the Bucks with 26 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds. Hakim Warrick had his fourth double-double of the series with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Andrew Bogut struggled offensively again, but finished with 5 blocks and 9 rebounds.

For the Cavaliers, the scoring was more down to 3 players. Mo Williams (30), Jason Richardson (33) and LeBron James (23) combined for 86 of the teams 115 points.

No team led by more then 6 points in the first three quarters, and the Bucks held a 71-70 lead with the final 12 minutes of regulation to go. The Cavs got off to a great start with their season on the line, led by Jason Richardson. J-Rich scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and sparked a big run which gave the Cavaliers 86-75 lead.

The Bucks came back behind Jennings and Redd, who worked well together. Redd scored 4 three-pointers in the final 5 minutes, including a game-tying three-pointer from the corner with 21 seconds left.

Shane Battier then deflected LeBron James's inbound pass and Brandon Jennings stole it. The Bucks couldn't get off a shot in the closing seconds and the game was heading to overtime.

Brandon Jennings scored 8 points in OT, including the first 5 points. Behind him, Warrick's dunk and Katashiko Chan's lay-in the Bucks had a 113-108 lead. But Jason Richardson quickly scored and the Bucks lead was down to 3. The Bucks tried to run as much time off the clock as possible, with Brandon Jennings holding the ball for 19 seconds.

He pulled up and hit a three-pointer to put the Bucks up 116-110. Zydrunas Ilgauskas hit a quick jumper to trim the lead to 4. Hakim Warrick was sent to the line. He made the first, missed the second, but Luc Mbah a Moute was there for the tip-in to put the Bucks up 119-112. There was 15 seconds left and Mo Williams brought the ball up and fired a quick three.

He made it with the final buzzer, but the Cavaliers had been eliminated.

PICKING THE MVP'S OF EVERY SERIES

(1) Los Angeles Lakers vs (8) New Orleans Hornets; Lakers advance 4-1

Ron Artest was the unlikely hero for the defending champs, averaging 21.4 points and 7.2 rebounds while playing great defense on David West, Al Thornton and at times, Chris Paul. Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol both averaged over 18 points and Andrew Bynum averaged over 17, so the defending champs decided to give a team effort to eliminate the Hornets.

Luke Ridnour started in place of rookie Julian Martin, but Martin did average 8.6 points off the bench, hitting many big shots so the Lakers should be fine for this post-season and could be seeking title number 17.

MVP : Ron Artest
Best of the losers : Chris Paul

(2) Dallas Mavericks vs (7) Houston Rockets; Mavericks advance 4-0

The Mavericks humiliated the Rockets in four games, beating them by an average of 22 points. With three players averaging over 20 points, you don't have much chance. Yao Ming averaged 39 points for the Rockets, who were without Tracy Mcgrady, as usual.

Kirk Hinrich averaged 9 assists, running the show. But the best was definitely Dirk, who should have won his second MVP.

MVP : Dirk Nowitzki
Best of the losers : Yao Ming

(3) Denver Nugets vs (6) Portland Trail Blazers; Trail Blazers advance 4-1

Led by Defensive Player of the Year Greg Oden, the Blazers didn't break much sweat to eliminate Luol Deng and the Nuggets.

Oden bumped his offensive numbers, as he averaged 26.4 points. He added 11 boards and 2 blocks while playing good defense on Nene, an All-star this year, who averaged just 8.7 points.

LaMarcus Aldridge also averaged a double-double (19.6; 10.2)

MVP : Greg Oden
Best of the losers : Luol Deng

(4) San Antonio Spurs vs (5) Golden State Warriors; Spurs advance 4-0

Depite having Amar'e Stoudemire and Thierry Tirieux, the Warriors couldn't grab a single win against the seasoned Spurs, led by Tony Parker (30 y/o), Tim Duncan (35) and Ray Allen (36).

All of them averaged over 18 points and 3.8 assists, showing the unselfishness of the Spurs. All Starters (Lee and Jefferson also) averaged over 3 assists, leaving the Warriors in disarray.

Finding the best player for the Spurs in the series is difficult, but Timmy with his defense on Amar'e gets it.

MVP : Tim Duncan
Best of the losers : Thierry Tirieux

----------------

(1) Detroit Pistons vs (8) Miami Heat; Heat advance 4-3

Behind Coach of the Year John Kuester, the surprising Pistons won a league-best 22 games and therefore got the first seed in the East. However, the Miami Heat, who acquired Chris Bosh in a mid-season trade, knocked them out in game #7, 80-77.

Bosh was the main reason, averaging 23.4 points and 11.3 rebounds. Wade was quiet, averaging just 17.6 points, but he saved his best for game #7, as he had 31 points, 7 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocks.

MVP : Chris Bosh
Best of the losers : Tayshaun Prince

(2) Boston Celtics vs (7) Toronto Raptors; Celtics advance 4-0

The experienced Celtics did quick work of the new-look Raptors who surprisingly made the Playoffs. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce carried the team, Rajon Rondo struggled however and was even outplayed at times by Ricky Rubio.

But KG showed up, playing like it's 2004. Averaging 21.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Pierce had his games, 33 points in game #1, but didn't do much else significant.

Bargnani matched KG stats-wise, but his inexperience as a leader was clear.

MVP : Kevin Garnett
Best of the losers : Andrea Bargnani

(3) Orlando Magic vs (6) Philadelphia 76ers; 76ers advance 4-3

The 76ers, led by last season's MVP Elton Brand, were able to pull off an upset and eliminate Dwight Howard and the rest of the Magic.

Elton Brand played out of his mind, leading the team in scoring (24.0), steals (2.43) and assists (6.0)! He was second in rebounding (9.4) and blocks (2.14). Dwight Howard could not stop him in the decisive game #7, when Brand finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists.

Andre Iguodala averaged 21.4 points, shooting 55% from distance (18-33). Sharp-shooter Mike Miller was also a good contributing, scoring over 17 a game, including a 35-point night in game #3.

MVP : Elton Brand
Best of the losers : Dwight Howard

(4) Milwaukee Bucks vs (5) Cleveland Cavaliers; Bucks advance 4-1

Michael Redd had 58 points in the final game #5, but he was very inconsistent. 6-25 in game #1 for example. He did lead the team in scoring, avergaing 29.6, mostly thanks to game #5.

The clear leader was All-NBA 1st team member and All-NBA Defender Brandon Jennings. In the 4 wins, he had 3 near triple-doubles and averaged 23.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 9.4 assists and 2.6 steals for the series. Only he, Redd and warrick averaged double-figures in scoring. Jennings was very efficient too, shooting 52% for the series, 44% from distance and 89% from the stripe.

Bogut disappeared offensively, averaging only 9.2 points shooting 31%. He focused more on defense, averaging 9.2 rebounds and 3.6 blocks.

I expect Jennings to continue his stellar play and maybe get his triple-double against Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and the rest of the Heat.

MVP : Brandon Jennings
Best of the losers : LeBron James

Contain Bosh and Wade, keep knocking it down from the outside with Redd and Jennings and I'd say you've got this one in four or five. :)

The Heat just got lucky in the first round now it's time to destroy them.

I think if there was an award for the best 6th man in the playoffs that would be me :D

They didn't have Bosh then, and Jermaine is a real hassle when I play against him. (See last years playoffs in this D). Bosh is my main focus, D-Wade is not that big of threat when I've played against him.

You definitely were a big part of that series, the starting PG spot should be yours definitely next season. (Y)

I'm pretty sure it will be tougher then the Cavaliers because of Bosh's presence. I need to stop him, while not forgetting D-Wade and Jermaine. I hope for short series, but we'll see. :)

Anyway, I'll be getting a new laptop next week, if it hasn't been sold out by then. (1 GB video card, 500GB hard drive, 4 mb memory)
I will definitely finish this season completely, so don't worry bout me pulling a Thierry. :)

If 2K11 works on that ok, I might start an association, but I'm in no hurry to do so, because I've enjoyed playing with this team. :)

How the hell did Miami only get the 8th seed? Despite taking on a sub-.500 regular season team, you'll have your work cut out for you here. Good luck containing Bosh with Warrick.

Re: | Bucks | Fear The Deer! | Chapter 4 pg 28

You should beat them easily.I believe 4-1 or even a sweep.
Unless Wade and Bosh play the series of their lives and rack up the scoreboards, they have no luck!

Thanks for the replies.
Lamrock - They got Bosh mid-season and the CPU doesn't like D-Wade much, he was averaging as much as Chalmers.
George7 - I think it will be tougher then that.

Update tomorrow. Also, just got NBA Elite 11 for iPod Touch. :)

Warrick injures knee, but Bucks hold off Heat rally
Bucks (93) - Heat (86)

    Image
Warrick helped off the court by Chan and Korver.

Hakim Warrick went down with an injury late in the third quarter, almost immediately after Andrew Bogut fouled out, and did not return. Without their starting bigs, the Bucks gave up their 13-point lead, but were able to hold off the Heat furious rally to take game #1.

Brandon Jennings led the way for the home squad with 17 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Michael Redd had 19, as did Warrick who left during the third quarter. Warrick scored 12 in the third quarter before going down with a minute left.

Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade combined for 41 points, the rest of the starters all scored 13 points, Dorell Wright took 21 shots to get there. He scored all of his points in the second half.

The Bucks held a double-digit lead after the first quarter and kept things along the same track, but after Bogut fouled out and Warrick went down, the Heat did a quick 12-2 run to trim the lead down.

With over a minute to go, Chris Bosh's 18-foot jumper narrowed the lead to 3. But Brandon Jennings's jumper and Katashiko Chan's put-back dunk put the Bucks back up by 7. In the end, Luc Mbah a Moute and Brandon Jennings held the Bucks advantage, knocking down all 4 freebies.

Warrick was taken straight to hospital and is likely to miss a couple of games.
