...
for a future first-rounder.WHAT THE FUCK!!?? Rich Cho can go eat a bag a dicks.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:20 am
SWEET. FINALLY some PT for him and less PT for Willie Green. Rudy is next.
it's a shame Portland is so freakin deep and there's not enough time to play every one. essentially they've been forced to trade/let go of Channing Frye, Steve Blake, Travis outlaw, Martell Webster, Jerryd Bayless (Rudy, Pendergraph, Patty Mills) because they are too deep <- and not in the traditional sense, but the most potential in the NBA
EDIT: add Sergio to that list. i forgot about him.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:24 am
WTF is right, they traded their future PG
Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:26 am
Good for Patty.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:30 am
Doubt Rudy is next. This trade means that the PG depth is Armon Johnson and Patty Mills (both second rounders). Big part of the reason they did this trade methinks is to appease Rudy by keeping room on the team for
his BFF Patty Mills
Sun Oct 24, 2010 12:15 pm
Wow, didn't realize they were buddies.
Ah well, they would make an awesome international back court. Stop hating Lamrock, Patty Mills is awesome.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 12:30 pm
FUCK.
That's kind of creepy, seeing as I just picked him first in my expansion draft franchsie.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 12:33 pm
Good for the Hornets, they let go of Collison and now they have Bayless to back-up CP3. But Patty Mills is awesome I think, might be because I'm Australian that I believe that, but I don't care. Go Patty!

Is Bayless going to play the sg position for NOH? He is one of the best scoring backup in my opinion during last season. Really happy for him and finally some productive minutes for him. I guess Portland just gave him away by getting a conditional first round pick. On another hand, Portland is going no where with Mr.Oden and Brandon Roy has been injured quite a few times lately.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 2:15 pm

Terrible, terrible trade.

Who needs Pritchard?
Great for Hornets, this is just what they needed. Bayless is better than Collison. Good times if you are a Hornets fan (are there any?)
Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:14 pm
Good job Paul Allen. Way to shit on your franchise.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:18 pm
Maybe Cho is thinking that the Hornets will stink this year and will have a top 5 pick.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:32 pm
Then Cho is the biggest moron in the league since the pick he traded for is top seven protected in the next draft.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:15 pm
What are these guys doing?
It was 2 years ago when Sergio & Rudy made the basketball more lovable & funny at Portland.
They traded Sergio to Sacramento, now Bayless. If Rudy is next, just Portland is this:
Bird Brains saw Portland's future.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 8:28 pm
oh yeah i forgot they traded sergio too.
and obliviousky bayless is playing pg cuz willie green was their backup pg and he sucks at that.
and the conditions on the draft pick easily favor the hornets because if the trade works out for them, bayless helps them and is more valuable than a late 1st rounder. if they still suck with him then portland doesn't get the pick
Sun Oct 24, 2010 8:50 pm
Unless they're JUST good enough that the pick falls in the 9-14 range. Like they were last year. In which case Portland gets a late lottery pick. Even if they make the playoffs (possibly likely with their superstar being healthier this year) it's still a mid-first round pick which is traditionally a good position to find yourself if you're a contender.
The Rudy stuff is probably combined with the Roy stuff. So in this case they move a guy who no longer has a role since Roy is essentially going to be the backup point guard and they're apparently going to justify their Matthews idiocy by trying to make him play it as well, get to punt the salary as long as they want and get a late lottery pick if they feel it's worth it.
The key is taking the pick in the right year, which could be this year even if the Hornets make the playoffs simply because Paul's days there might be (or are?) numbered. Unless they intend it to be part of a package later in the season. One option might be dealing the pick back with other stockpiled ones and a pair of expiring deals to get
Mr. Paul himself.

Projected to be a pretty decent draft as well, no?
And I'm hearing vibes that Armon Johnson has played well in preseason. I don't know whether that's from Blazers fans chugging down Kool-Aid or legit.
But yeah, I guess picking up a pick somewhere in the late lottery or mid first-round is another good asset to acquire for a potential big deal, especially if GMs around the league are valuing that pick more than Bayless. I wouldn't, but I'm a sucker for upside.
Sun Oct 24, 2010 10:41 pm
Off that, I would like to note I'm not pretending it's clear cut, it IS a gamble since you can draft a complete dud, but there is a logic here for the Blazers that they're trying to figure out a chemistry issue in the short term and the draft pick does give them a long term option. They've apparently decided Rudy is more important than Bayless, and may be betting on Andre Miller short-term, and it's not the worst gamble, backup point guards are a dime a dozen simply because of height distribution and they can probably pick up one late in the season and not lose too much short-term. Rudy when he's not pouting is a pretty great asset and a healthy Oden/Przybilla could make them a legit contender in the next year or two.
This kind of thing is one of those reasons I'd probably prefer to be a GM for a crappy team trying to build it than a contender trying to manage the pieces. If in a year Bayless steps into the gap left by Paul bailing to elsewhere and averages 20/8 while Oden once again sprained his penis and Andre Miller does his normal non-caring routine I'd probably just quit instead of trying to figure out what the hell to do.
One thing the NBA should do is let teams hold onto that draft pick and declare it at any point, like say, the Hornets are picking tenth. The Pacers or whatever pick ninth and then BAM the Blazers GM runs onto the stage and declares they're taking the Hornets pick that instant. And then you cut to the Hornets war room and the GM is throwing the coffee machine across the room, and everyone else is shoving all their laptops and notebooks off the desk
