Hand-up on Defense

On the control settings screen it says any axis of the right analog stick on defense will trigger the hand up animation, on my case all the player does is do
the take charge animation when I move the right stick. Anyone else experiencing this? How do you do the hand up defense?

Right stick away from the ball handler. Right stick left and right to take a charge.

Is it just me, or is the hands-up animation completely useless? I've noticed it with older 2k's as well as 2k11: it seems that it makes no differents if you but your hands-up or not - cpu will pass through, shoot over etc as you were just standing there with no hands :P ....

Has anyone noticed it as well?

Pretty much worthless for me. I would rather go for a block than do a hands-up, even when I'm in foul trouble. Only time I found hands-up useful was when controlling a bigman that sucks at blocking shots. Using a hands-up to contest a shot and still maintain the position for a possible rebound, but I got over that quickly as I learned to position and timing for a possible successful block even with Darius Songaila.
