New Tidbits from OS (PC gets full 360 controller icons)

Sat Oct 02, 2010 3:44 am

ChaseB from OS went to 2K and got some questions answered, some interesting bits.

Coaches will bring their play style with them when they change teams.

Don't expect DLC for classic teams

Online games from inside your association has been taken out due to stat issues.

The new Magic court is in the game, but 2K was not allowed to see the new arena itself because it was still under construction at the time -- apparently they literally were not allowed inside to take pictures because it was considered too dangerous (remember they do this type of work months and months in advance of the game coming out). As an aside, I think some people were saying the Cavs court was wrong this year. 2K gets all their stuff from the NBA, so if it's wrong, then it's most likely because the Cavs made a late change rather than the art team being "incompetent" or whatever.

There is no "authentic" option in Association mode like the one in NHL 11 so draft picks that have been traded in real life are reflected the same way in the game -- sorry Rockets fans.

There is not a "lead" platform, although I think the PC version is actually the "definitive" version this year (at least at the start) because they had a couple extra weeks to tune the game on that version. Plus, the PC version does have the glorious mods and full-on 360 controller support this year with button icons showing up and everything. AND the PC version is cheaper (PC gaming is not dead, eat ittttt haters).

EAT ITTT

You can't use real-world roster updates in an ongoing Association.

No dunk contest/3-point shootout in the Association

No sign and trades in Association
I saw some questions about the substitution system in My Player. Even if you are way worse than a Tony Parker and also a PG, the coach is still going to play you more than Tony if you perform better than him during your time on the court. However, it's apparently harder to break in with those situations this year. SimBaller was telling me how one developer was having a lot of issues trying to break into the PG rotation on the Suns because Nash was taking all his minutes. But the point here is the coach does not care about overall rating, just what you do with your minutes on the court.

In my player if in good standing you can try to get the team to trade another player or trade for a certain type of player
Players can't be held out of games if they become so unhappy with their franchise, but you will actually see them dog it/jog at points on the court if they become totally miserable in Association mode.

you can take a wired xbox 360 controller and plug it into your computer to use for games. or you can buy a little adapter and use wireless controllers.

2k9 and 2k10 supported the controller, but not fully. The triggers didnt work properly and the configuration was forced on alternate A rather than the full "default" configuration. On top of that when icon passing we got those random buttons that didnt seem to match any controller.

With mods we were able to fix the icon passing and with custom XBCD drivers we could fix the triggers but it still wasnt the same as the xbox 360 versions or the ps3 versions.

Now, out of the box, we have confirmation that not only will the controller configuration work the same as the xbox 360/ps3 versions of the game, but we will get correct icon passing as well.

That's great news about the controller support. The lack of full support really bugged me in 2K9 and 2K10. Though now I'm really used to using the PS3 controller dammit.

Yay, now I can do slow-mo during replays. That's really all I wanted out of the controller config.

One thing I am still wondering about is if they fixed the VIP profile tendencies. The isomotion part of it never worked correctly, no matter how you used isomotion. They only recorded pro hops.

No dunk contest/3-point shootout in the Association

With all the other improvements that have gone into Association Mode this year, I'd say getting the full All-Star Weekend (or at least the dunk contest and three point shootout) into the game is the next step. Maybe next year.

they've been saying "maybe next year" on that since the dunk contest came back in 2k8. They want it to reflect the actual rules and such before they put it into association, but in their defense......the rules are changing nearly every year.

And with the current rules that see fans vote for the winner before the final round is complete, it would kind of defeat the purpose of playing through the final round of dunks. Of course, that'd be true to life.

I'm not sure how I was already able to do everything on my laptop already. I guess because Dell already had certain driver that would allow it to work properly. The only issue I had was the icons, everything else worked perfectly fine. Also, the wired version of the controllers keep getting shortages, so I'm on like my 4 controller in 3 years. Good, I have connections and get them for cheap!

I could do it before I just had to have the triggers and bumper controls switched but it felt too awkward so I switched back.
