I notice they didn't touch upon the marriage crisis episodes. Good call, too many to name from around Season 14-18 and the only real differences are the flimsy setup that makes Marge question the whole marriage and the wacky grand gesture Homer makes to win her back.

As for the episodes they mentioned, the earlier episode is easily the superior one in most cases, with less distance between the two when both are post-classic era episodes and Little Big Girl/Apocalypse Cow is kind of a toss-up for me.

Outside of Disco Stu, Hank Azaria Rules.

It should also be noted that Russi Taylor sometimes does Martin's voice, Nancy Cartwright has alternated between Rod and Todd and Jon Lovitz has done a decent amount of guest characters over the years, as has Albert Brooks.

I didn't think Harry Shearer voiced so many major characters either, that's just crazy being able to alter your tone to such an extent...

Yes, but Disco Stu doesn't advertise.

That's why he's not pictured next to Azaria clearly.

I had no idea Nancy Cartwright did so many voices. Yeardley Smith is just mailing it in. Lift your game Lisa.

I remember a couple of times they've had her voice one shot characters but they've basically been variations of Lisa. Not surprising I guess, the voice she does for Lisa is basically her own voice pitched a little higher.

The Simpsons: Season 22

Yes, I'm still watching. When it comes to The Simpsons, I see myself as being a "to the bitter end" kind of fan, as far removed from its classic years as it may be.

So, the season premiere...well, there have been worse episodes. I liked the performance of the Itchy & Scratchy theme, Krusty's YouTube videos, the "Good Vibrations" parody was pretty well-done, the Flight of the Conchords stuff had its moments, the homage to the intro with Lisa in the band was nice and Grampa's poetry was kind of funny. Neither story was particularly engaging though so in that respect it was fairly ordinary. Passable by recent standards, but definitely no modern classic.

I'm exactly the same with the Simpsons. From season 1-10, it was the greatest show ever in my opinion and between about seasons 4 and 7 it was pretty much flawless. I haven't seen the new season yet, but I was kind of excited when I found out Bret and Jermaine were going to be on there. Sucks to hear that it was a let down though.

Show stopped being good at the turn of the century, and there have only been one or two good episodes since. This one actually started out somewhat decent but it quickly became unwatchable and I only got halfway through.

All in all, slightly better than expected.

I'd agree the golden era finished around that point but I felt the show was still quite enjoyable through the 13th season. Around Season 14, my dissatisfaction certainly began to grow.

It was decent but not that great. Some of the Krusty jokes were pretty good, but I think there's just something wrong overall with episodes where the main story focuses on Lisa. She just keeps getting more and more annoying for me.

They've made her a bit more whiny and unlikeable. It's not totally out of character, but it's the wrong element of her character to exaggerate.

I can't believe it's been twenty years since the shows best season. And ten years since Springfield was split in two, Homer had a crayon in his brain, and yvan eht nioj.

What a waste of my life.

That reminds me, there was a joke in Season 12 in Behind the Laughter about the next season being the last. So much for that.

It also said that the Simpsons were from Northern Kentucky.

Which they went ahead and changed in a couple of the re-runs.

Every time Lisa's part is bigger, the episode's gonna suck (Especially in the 20s seasons).

I wouldn't necessarily agree, though as I said before they have made her a bit more whiny and unlikeable in recent seasons, focusing on the wrong character traits in my opinion.

Absolutely, you can't take away what the show accomplished at the peak of its creativity and quality. Unfortunately, the bad and mediocre episodes (and indeed seasons) are beginning to overshadow the "golden era" which was such a long time ago now that even Simpsons diehards are underrating the early, classic seasons.

Anyway, I actually kind of enjoyed the latest episode. One of the better Lisa stories as of late as she was written fairly well; not too whiny and her preference to give away her $50 was very true to her character. I also liked that they didn't have Nelson get upset and throw a fit when he found out it was Lisa who gave him the micro-loan, I thought I saw it coming and was pleasantly surprised when they didn't throw that in there as a complication. The resolution was a bit rushed to return to the status quo but I liked the ending nevertheless.

Exactly my thought. I was expecting Nelson to get mad so it was surprising it didn't happen, but I thought the conclusion was not really explored well enough, making the whole thing a little preachy about staying in school...But it was better than the season's opening at least.
