Iverson to China?

Tue Sep 14, 2010 9:29 am

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/09/13/alle ... -in-china/

FanHouse Newswire wrote:Gary Moore, Iverson's personal manager, said Iverson has not been contacted by any NBA team with training camps set to open in less than two weeks. Moore said there is "legitimate interest" between Iverson and a team in China to work out a deal. Moore did not know the team's name and was vague on details.

"We're very astonished, to say the least, that not one team has contacted us with any interest," Moore said. "I just don't understand it."

In his prime, Iverson boasted top-selling jerseys and sneakers and was a global superstar. His popularity never waned even as his production dipped -- Iverson was voted an Eastern Conference All-Star starter last season. Iverson would be a drawing card overseas, and might see a familiar face in former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury. Also discarded by the NBA, Marbury played last season for Shanxi Zhongyu in the Chinese Basketball Association.

Moore says a Chinese team first approached the 35-year-old Iverson last month.

"What has Allen Iverson done to not warrant interest in him?" Moore said.

Yeah, I read that. If it works for Starbury, it'd work for AI.

I remember back in 03, how popular Iverson was. I was over in Beijing and at a middle school. I was outnumbered by all these Iverson and T-Mac fans. Everyone liked one or the other. I bet Iverson would love it over there.

Well, whatever floats his boat. His ego is probably too big to accept coming off the bench in the NBA, so I guess China will be good place for him.

Really?

Seems this is Iverson's best bet if he wants to continue playing professional ball. Good luck to him, seemed to work out pretty well for Stephon Marbury and Bonzi Wells.

Damn... I really wanted him seeing making a strong comeback after several disastrous seasons.

You can give up on that thought.

I would say "yes" to this idea too if I would be AI. He is 35 years old, maybe he wants to go overseas, then it's OK.

I'm still holding on the thought of him making a comeback.

Me too, I'd also like a T-Mac comeback

C-77, Well T-mac have a team, AI not even an offer. :(

For God's sake Iverson!!!!
Don't ruin your career!!(Those 1-2 years left of it)

Just come to Greece and Olympiakos and get yourself some serious competition!!!It's not (only) about the money... :shake: :shake: :shake:

Well, he's desperate to play. If Olympiakos will give him an offer, then that's the time that he will play there in Greece.

So there were at least two of them, then?

No, the whole general population loved them. Iverson, T-Mac, Vince Carter and Yao Ming.

I hope Michael Jordan shows interest in AI at some point. I'd love to see him in Charlotte, if he doesn't mind either coming off the bench or playing point guard. (He's probably a better point guard than anyone the Bobcats have right now.)

Unfortunately, it doesn't really seem to be happening, does it?

If you will not accept to be a bench player , no one will not want to make a contract with you my friend :D

Unless he'll take a point guard position. I think he's a better point guard than Augustin, Collins, or Livingston at this point. He may retire in 2-3 years, but we could probably squeeze a few good games out of Iverson.

-Augustin is not a point guard. He's an undersized shooting guard (kind of like Nate Robinson) who has become a point guard because he's short.
-Collins is an undrafted rookie. Don't expect anything amazing for a year or two.
-Livingston... we all know what happened to him...

Iverson is a better option than anyone else right now. He may be a natural SG, but he can play point just like anyone else.

He's been playing at the point for the last few years so I don't think that'll be an issue. Shot attempts, playing time, a starting role and the Bobcats overall lack of interest on the other hand...

The only way Larry Brown would deal with his ego is when he could still run circles around most of the NBA. Shame he isn't in that kind of shape (although he and his agent must think he is...)

If you guys go to Ball Don't Lie on Yahoo Sports! you will see that Steve Francis is considering a move to China as well.

Seems like it's the place to be for combo guards who've worn out their welcome in the NBA.

Jamaal Tinsley could be next.
