Avery Johnson agrees to terms with the Nets

Thu Jun 10, 2010 5:39 am

To become their new head coach, if that wasn't quite clear.

Reunion here for Devin Harris and AJ. But all is not lost for fans of wanting Mark Jackson off the air, he's still a finalist for the Atlanta job.

I liked how Avery coached the Mavs back in the days. I wonder how Lebron feels about Nets now.

Probably the same as he did yesterday. I don't think Avery's personality meshes well with LeBron's.. unless LeBron wants a coach to be his boss, but I don't really see him being down with that unless the coach is a Phil Jackson/Larry Brown.

Avery could be a help for Devin Harris in the short term. They really lacked execution and a "want" last year (on top of a billion other things) and Avery is a fiery guy, so I think this is a solid hire for a team looking to rebound into the playoffs next year.

Just one thing, Devin Harris was not comfortable with Johson's style of coaching when they were with the Mavs. Wonder how it will work out with them both together again.

You can say that again.

I love Marc Jackson. JVG could go since he's a prick and wrong about pretty much everything (Game 6 of Eastern Conference Semis: "I like what Mike Brown is doing, putting Shaq on Garnett"), but Jackson is hilarious. "Two words: Ron do!"

Fine move. Considering that negotiations with the Hornets supposedly broke down because Johnson wanted control over player movement as well, it'll be interesting to see what the arrangement is. I'm guessing the Nets are standing by Rod Thorn though and Johnson has conceded that demand.

Some players learn and mature, much like normal people. Hopefully Harris is one of those players.
It maybe the same system (coach) but different pieces. In Dallas Harris wasn't the man, Dirk is and Harris was only the 4th option on that team, but in New Jersey it's him and Lopez.

You Think they won't get anything in the off-season?

I am guessing overpaid David Lee. Good or bad, yet to be seen. But Avery Johnson I think is a good hardo nosed coach they picked up.

I feel bad for Lopez, Harris, CDR and whoever's there to listen to this clown's voice...I mean seriously..."Deh Feeneecks Sawns awr a nays dafenseev teem bawt nawt as great as deh Las Anjeles Lakurz."

But solid signing nontheless. Good to see him back.

For the record, I *** hate jejes or whatever you call them. I ALWAYS encounter them in the interwebs and I wanna web-smack them in the faces.

I was mocking how annoying Avery Johnson's voice was, thus...I put those words in quotations. (" ") Nontheless, we can now enjoy ESPN's presentation more since we won't hear his annoying screeching voice. :)

Am I the only one who thinks it's insane how we're always saying, "I wonder how Lebron feels about ________ now?" after a hiring?

Anyway, good of the Nets.

Good for the Nets, I'm thrilled to see how Avery will resurrect the Nets.
