most times than not the offensive player in the one to initiate the contact (btw i am speaking general terms now not just this last game) and i think that is one of the things the league needs to address. that and the amount of players diving under people to draw a charge.
a good example was late game fisher got by his man, had a clean look at the hoop but instead of leaning in and taking his shot he jumped back into the defender. he made the basket and there was no call but more often than not they call that kind of play.

You keep using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.

It seems to me, even referees don't have the clear cut standard when it comes to that kinda plays.

Regression to the mean: - Ray Allen scores 34 points in game one. This is his high point in the series.
- Ray's career scoring average in the Finals is 18.6 points.
- A mean is the average number in a series of numbers.
- Example: (12+32+2+19+17+25+19+16+26) divided by (9) games played= 18.6
Basically regression to the mean would be regressing from his high point (34) to his average (18.6). You have him regressing from the high point to a low point of two points.
Maybe I should have opted to major in math instead of journalism?
z02 wrote:He sets a 3-POINT RECORD and then the next game all he scores are two foul shots and goes 0-13 from the field!!! There's no question Ray Allen lost this for them.
I'd argue Paul Peirce's non-existance so far in the series or Rondo's average play last night are more to blame. If Allen makes two threes, yeah, they're probably going to be close enough to win, but if Pierce plays like he knows he can, they win going away.
Why Pierce didn't try to score on Luke Walton every time he was on the court is beyond me.

Except Sheed's guaran-sheeds were actually correct occasionally.
Andrew wrote:"Big game, but why so emotional?" Possibly the worst question a courtside reporter has ever asked.
What, you wouldn't point out that a guy is emotional after the most important 10 minute stretch of basketball he's played during his entire career? Silly Holly Rowe.
I agree, poor timing, poor execution, poor being a decent sideline reporter.

Pierce can still be correct. The Celtics just have to lose the next two games and the series won't go back to Los Angeles.

Ouch for Boston.

Now Pierce is predicting the Celtics will bounce back.
Pierce " I'm not going to win a game in LA, I'm saying we're going to lose at home."

Well, what's he supposed to do? Give up and publicly admit defeat?

Yeah, players all around the league get some really cheap shooting fouls that way. Combined with generous continuation rules there's a lot of leeway, though I guess it kind of evens itself out sometimes with the generous charging calls when a defender sliders over in front of an airborne player. I'd love to see all of that cleaned up.

Iconic moment in the finals for the lakers

Well he did not literally said that I just edited that, here is the original.

Yes, I do realise he didn't actually say that; I was referring to the bounce back part. Of course players are going to come out, put on a brave face and talk about bouncing back.

As hard as Kobe Bryant tried to gift the Celtics the win with his horrid shooting, Derek Fisher was there to spoil the party. Thank you Derek Fisher, just thank you. That old guy worked his ass off, awesome game for him.
Kobe Bryant going to the basket results in good things 80% percent of the time. He's got to realize that on some nights he just doesnt have the shooting touch from outside. It's something he just can't seem to accept and just shoots them out of games. Props to Derek Fisher for not settling for outsiders and pushing the ball to the paint. (Let's just ignore that way out there three pointer which came shortly after Kobe's way out there three.)
The refs were horrid in this game. Both ways some horrid calls and they kind of spoiled the game. Phantom foul on Wallace had me go wtf? Rondo knocking Odom and still getting the ball irked me too. Just too many weird calls.
Ah fuck it, I'm glad they got the win. Keep up the defense, keep driving the ball and win game 04.
Edit: Ohai Odom. Nice to see you show up for the Finals.

This post got left behind after the start of game three...
Andrew wrote:As for the officials having influence on the game, that's inevitable since they're the ones making the calls (which is their job, after all).
Making the correct call doesn't influence the game, making the wrong call does.
That's the ideal, but it's also expecting perfection of the referees and I don't we can feasibly expect that of any human being. Referees aren't going to be immune to bad angles or the influence of players flopping and selling contact.
I'm not expecting them to be perfect, I'm just expecting them to not be that bad.
That's why I'd expand the instant replay a little further to allow review of other calls that are left up to referee judgement
Not even the NFL allows review of a judgment call. It is, after all, a judgment call.
or simply place a limit on the amount of calls you can challenge, similar to timeouts.
I don't like the idea of doing that if you're getting them right. Limiting the number of challenges and removing one for each incorrect challenge would be okay, but limiting them and removing one every time a call is challenged regardless of whether or not the call is reversed isn't.

So what's your point? You just nitpicked on so many comments, but again not sure what you are trying to prove there. Are you saying the system works or what.

Just let it go folks, that post of Andrew's was last seen on page 5 of this thread. Leave it behind. It's not like someone's going to die if we don't discuss the issue of referee incompetence.

I don't need to defend myself about my man crush on the newest fashion trend led by Fuhrer, since even the great MJ himself seemingly is welcoming such a change in the trend.

Brilliant shit by Celtics right now. Loving it!!!!!!!!!
Fri Jun 11, 2010 1:46 pm
Wow we just got beat by 2 bench players in a game where we could have stole Boston's heart. 2 days to let this loss sink. It Hurts already

Big Baby is my new favorite player. When he's not being absolutely hilarious, he's hitting the big shots and playing with heart. These Celtics (besides Pierce) are really growing on me.
