I didn't cheat.

The 1st pick came from 2 seasons ago. The 10th pick came from last season from a deal that was offered to me by the game that got rid of Raja Bell. Lucky because I had traded away my draft picks in earlier deals. :)

It's like in real life when teams trade for picks and they turn out to be really good ones, are they cheating?

Oh yeah the Raja Bell trade.. it still cheating man you outsmarted the AI be fair man LOL :P

Sweet luck getting that #1 pick. Stealth will be 2012-13 champs for sure (provided the world doesn't end in 2012)

They were giving me Luis Scola rated 75 for Raja Bell rated 82. They're the ones who included the draft pick. At the time I didn't realise how bad they were and said accept. haha... it seemed fair to me at the time. But don't worry, the Drafts don't usually give you very good players...

That scenario is still on the cards.

Also, what do you think of your comparison?

ANNOUNCEMENT

I also know that a lot of you are wondering where your NLSC players are. Well, the answer is that they are coming.

The next draft class will include: Dare, chrisO0, The Dee, De8, Lightning Strike, and Clutch.

Are there any other posters interested in having a player? Post interest here please.

Terrible. Then again, 2K9 compared Ricky Rubio to Gilbert Arenas and Blake Griffin to Dirk, so I don't really think its valid. :P

Nope, not at all. haha. I was kind of hoping you'd get Mehmet Okur haha

And I was going to change your comparison but I decided Lamar Odom was funny and unique cause I've never seen his name pop up!

And my Ricky Rubio was compared to Deron Williams I think. -.-"

2012 NBA Draft
Pick-By-Pick Analysis of the First Round
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image

By Woody Hannes
ESPN.com Writer

What follows is a run-down of all 30 draft picks made in the first round the other night. The 2012 NBA Draft provided an unprecedented six international players as lottery picks, with four of the first five picks being from overseas. In addititon to that, a larghe number of College juniors and seniors were selected; probably an indication that even the lottery teams want to win now rather than slowly rebuild. Woody Hannes takes you through each pick made in the first round.

1. Seattle (via Detroit) selects PG Jao Wu (Maryland)

Woody’s Take: Everyone knew that this pick was a given even though the Stealth scheduled a last minute workout for Nigerian product Ifeayi Ndiaye. Wu Jao (or Jao Wu) was never going to be passed on by the Stealth who need a player to step into the shoes of Jason Kidd once the future Hall of Famer retires. Wu was the best player in this Draft but he is also a scoring point guard rather than your conventional playmaker. It remains to be seen how he will or if he can fit in with the Stealth who already have two volume shooters in Kevin Durant and Reshawn Tyson.

2. Houston selects PG Ifeayi Ndiaye (Nigeria)

Woody’s Take: The Rockets are in rebuilding mode and as a result they signed the youngest player in the draft. Ndiaye just turned 19 and will be the youngest rookie in the NBA next season. The Nigerian point guard is very quick and has some great court instincts. His footwork is superb; a result of his football (soccer) background. The former Nigerian junior football representative turned down a youth contract to play football for giants Manchester United in order to chase his dream of playing basketball. It all paid off as Ndiaye’s wealthy family was able to send him to train in European basketball academies and the Rockets decided to take a chance on pairing him up with franchise centre Yao Ming. This is asn interesting pick here as no one knows if he is ready for the NBA game, especially for the fact that his exposure to the game has been limited thus far.

3. Indiana Pacers selects SG Albano Spagnoletti (Argentina)

Woody’s Take: Spagnoletti came a long way to be drafted by Indiana with the third overall draft pick. The Argentinean was a projected to be taken late in the first round until he performed eceptionally well (some may say he overachieved) in workouts against other lottery picks and that helped him skyrocket up the board. He now joins the Pacers where he might one day get to start at shooting guard alongside Ricky Rubio in the backcourt. It’s surprising to see a player like Albano get drafted this high because most GMs revere him as a project. This was a very gutsy move by the Pacers.

4. Chicago selects PF Eric Smith (Duke)

Woody’s Take: The Chicago Bulls desperately needed frontcourt help and a go-to-scorer. They got it with Eric Smith. The former Blue Devil was the most talented scoring player in college basketball last season and he also was the nation’s top rebounder. The Bulls made the perfect decision here and it should pay off with a trip to the playoffs if Smith can step up to the role of being ‘the man’. There are concerns however for Smith. His ineptness of playing low post defense; whether that is because he can’t or because he is too lazy too is irrelevant. His fitness or lack thereof is also concerning for a player who should be on the floor for most of the game as well as in the dying stages – not to mention that he needs to survive an entire 82 game schedule. On paper, it’s a great pick but in reality, Smith does have some obstacles to get past. He could be the next Chris Bosh but he could also be the next Derrick Coleman.

5. Minnesota selects C Janis Kalnins (Lativa)

Woody’s Take: This is an interesting pick for the Wolves but most likely indicates their disappointment in Al Jefferson who hasn’t panned out as they would have liked. Kalnins is definitely not ready to play in the NBA but he is a very skillful 7 footer and they are hard to come by. The question is how hard he is going to work to make his European style translate in the NBA. From what I’ve heard, the Wolves intend to start Kalnins next to Jefferson. This could actually work better in reality than on paper because of Kalnins’ shooting ability.

6. Phoenix selects PF Darnell Love (New Mexico)

Woody’s Take: The Suns have missed the presence of ex-power forwards Amare Stoudemire and Leo Chase and who do they draft? Another soft forward who would rather make his living outside of the paint. Love is young and was a pretty good 19 year old sophomore at New Mexico but he’s not going to cut it in the NBA. The Suns desperately wanted Eric Smith but he was never going to drop past the fifth pick. Now they have to settle for Love and hope that things are better in free agency.

7. Denver Nuggets selects PF Frederick Lampley (Gerogetown)

Woody’s Take: Lampley is going to be a great fit in the Nuggets’ frontcourt. At 6’10” and 279 lbs, he is able to get very good position on both ends of the floor. His forte is his rebounding and defensive game and after four years at Georgetown, he is ready to play in the NBA. Lampley’s decision to play his final college season was a good one as it really helped to establish him as a lottery prospect. He ended up averaging 10.8 rebounds a game. Some people call him a one-dimensional player but he is so talented in that one area that it probably won’t matter.

8. Milwaukee selects SF Liam Washburn (Washington)

Woody’s Take: There was a lot of uncertainty about this pick. Washburn did not have the best workouts as his poor foot speed, jumping ability and upper body strength were fully exposed. Washburn struggled to keep up with any player on the defensive end and did not show great off-the-ball movement. His saving grace was his shooting touch and awareness. Washburn needs to play on a team where he’s the number three option and on a team with a good point guard. The Bucks are still missing a point guard but Washburn should fit in well with the league’s rising star big man; Jay Gray. It’s great to see the Bucks take a gamble on Washburn.

9. Philadelphia selects PF Gus Webb (DePaul)

Woody’s Take: The 76ers have been flirting with postseason appearances for the past three or four seasons. It’s been unfortunate that their prize signing from 2008 never lived up to his billing and it has cost the Sixers dearly. It seems that the team still realizes that their window is still open and instead of drafting a young player they have gone with Webb who is now 24 but brings a lot of experience to the team. Webb’s style of play should fit in well with the Sixers who have Andre Iguodala and Vince Carter taking all the shots. Webb is able to fit in seamlessly and does not require plays to be run for him to be effective. The Sixers could be back in the playoffs this season.

10. Seattle (via Toronto) selects SG Senso Rancati (Italy)

Woody’s Take: This is an interesting pick seeing that Leo Lai was expected to be selected here while Rancati did not even trial in the United States. The Stealth’s decision was informed only by game tape and scouts going to watch his games over in Europe. The 6’7” 21 year old guard plies his trade for the Montepaschi Siena basketball team in the Italian top basketball league. Siena have dominated the competition; having won every season since 2006-07. Rancati was a starter at Siena averaging 12.3 ppg, this may have been what appealed to the Stealth. Seattle get a great shooter who is ready to contribute right away. Lai did not offer them that.

11. Charlotte selects PG Marc Oliver (Providence)

Woody’s Take: I would have expected the Cats to take Jake Williamson – it would have at least made sense. Instead they go for Oliver who probably won’t get much of a chance to play. He is a solid guard at both ends of the floor but the Cats really needed an enforcer like Williamson as their frontline is very thin. Not a very good pick. Not at all.

12. Los Angeles Clippers selects C Jake Williamson (Wake Forrest)

Woody’s Take: This pick could help the Clippers make the playoffs again. Amare Stoudemire is a great player but Williamson brings a defensive presence that he can’t give the Clippers; not to mention that Williamson is a superior defensive player to what Chris Kaman will ever be. Speaking of Kaman, he seems intent to leave the Clippers so this selection makes even more sense. The Clippers finally got something right!

13. Dallas selects SG Leo Lai (China)

Woody’s Take: Dallas continues to build the Asian connection as they add Leo Lai to their roster. Lai will get a chance to fight for a starting spot alongside Philippines SF Kenneth Dela Cruz. Lai, currently preparing for the Olympics, is brimming with potential and has showed much promise in his one year stint in Europe. It is unsure whether he will make the move to Dallas but if the Mavs can offer him a significant role, expect Lai to be in the NBA next season.

Seems like a fairly weak draft, Nice job grabbing Wu Jao, but I'm not sure about the other guy you drafted. Shame I slipped in draft workouts, but it'll be cool playing with Gray. If only Brandon Jennings existed in this dynasty.

Good picks, I like that the Rockets take a Nigerian again after Hakeem and that he has some soccer background ^^ that's cool. I thought that you might write that Spagnoletti has problems staying with one club and had about 25 different teams leaving after only a few games played ;)

Liam Washburn at eight is cool. Lamrock always says he wants to be DIrk, now he gets drafted by the Bucks at the eighth spot, that is Dirk like.

It's definitely not too strong. It's a little deeper than the 2011 Draft but that's nothing to brag about. Rookie of the Year Ricky Rubio didn't even average double digit points while only two rookies averaged more than 10ppg last year (Knicks 2nd pick Travis Ward and Raptors 3rd pick Larry Williams). I think there will be a handful of other double digit scorers this season. Seems to me like a huge focus on older players and international guys with potential.

You slipped down to 12 I think but after workout week went back up again. I guess it's about right you got picked in the middle of the pack. Brandon Jennings doesn't exist but Michael Conley does play for the Bucks. It's up to him to step up. He's been there 2 seasons now and last season played fairly well averaging about 15 ppg and 6-7 apg. We will see if he can build on that.

Thierry. wrote:YES! 3rd! to the Pacers! Can't get better. As I asked Oznogrd, how does the Pacers rotation looks like? :cheeky:

Brandon Rush looks likely to start ahead of you and you should be the team's sixth man.

dare wrote:Seems like a weak draft but that Italian guys seems to be good (Y)

He's a decent shooter. That's probably about it. But I really had no one else to pick. Especially with Valor trying to force a trade through me and I refuse to bow down to his demands!

Mark. wrote:Like the guy you got with your first pick, but will he be able to mesh with the team that is the question. Nice pick up on the Italian too, he sounds good (Y)

Yeah man, will be interesting to see if he can fit in this team. He's definitely not a pass-first PG.

Yeah man, I was happy to see them take the 19 year old Nigerian. :)

Who knows, Albano may turn out to be a journeyman like Keith Van Horn, Antonio Daniels, Ron Mercer and other players of the Tim Duncan Draft that The X talks about.... I think that would really represent Thierry well. Agreed?

De8 wrote:Hope Wu Jao helps you big time.I wonder who they will compare me too or maybe you could do the comparisons instead of 2k9

If not in his rookie year, hopefully down the track!

And I will let 2k9 do the comparisons. It's always funnier that way. But sometimes they double up on players and that's when I need to create my own. But yeah, 2K does half the work for me.

You didn't get snubbed by 12 guys. Only me. haha. It's cause you were too overbearing. You will see in the next update I have.

Yeah, and Belilineli is playing awesome in Golden State in this association. I just need Senso to come in and nail shots. I've got an awesome three point shooting lineup now with Senso (Italian shooter), Mingyu Li (7 foot Chinese shooter like Wang Zhizhi), Aaron Karl (Dependable stroke at PG), Reshawn Tyson and Kevin Durant (Both have the range and ability to knock them down). Stealth Select Two International Players

June 28, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) – The Seattle Stealth added to the international flavor of their team with their two lottery draft picks. The new additions to the roster are American-Chinese PG Wu Jao and Italian SG Senso Rancati. Jao was always viewed as the first selection of the Draft but Rancati was a late decision with Seattle ditching another Chinese player, Leo Lai, at the last minute. The Stealth also traded their second round pick to the Houston Rockets for a future second round pick.

Rancati is a 6’6” swingman with a game comparable to that of Golden State Warrior Marco Belinelli. The Stealth liked the Italian’s very solid long range game as well as the fact that he was a much more NBA ready product than Lai. Rancati is expected to add some depth and fill in the old role that was Raja Bell's; ironically the player who was traded to Toronto for Luis Scola and the draft pick used to select Rancati.

Jao’s feats at Maryland and for the Chinese National Team are well known to League observers and it was always a given that he would be drafted first. The Stealth were happy to choose him despite an eleventh hour second look into fellow PG prospect Ifeayi Ndiaye, who ended up going second to the Houston Rockets.

Jao is expected to come onto the team as Jason Kidd’s understudy as the veteran prepares for retirement. It is unknown how Jao will do in that capacity as he is known as a scoring point guard and compared to Allen Iverson. The rookie was noy present on Draft Night as he prepares for the London Olympic Games with the Chinese National Team.

In some controversy after the Draft, Lai told reporters that he had gotten an assurance from Stealth Front Office executives that he would be a member of the team and he was looking forward to playing in Seattle. A conflicting source claimed that the reason why Seattle backed off was that Lai and his agent were pushing for a trade to the Chicago Bulls. The source said, "We don't appreciate being used and won't bow down to any pressure."

Final Team USA Roster Unveiled Ahead of London 2012

SEATTLE (AP) – Kevin Durant made the cut for the United States Olympic Team but fellow Seattle teammates Reshawn Tyson and Jason Kidd just missed out. A member of the Gold winning 2010 World Championship side, Durant looks like he will push for a bigger role at the 2012 London Olympics.

New Jersey Net Carmelo Anthony, Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James, and Miami Heat Dwyane Wade will reprise their roles as captains for the 2012 side. Reigning MVP James is confident that the United States will come up with Gold in London, “We have the best team in the World. I’m not scared to say that. There will be some tough competition from some countries but we have the best team.”

The final team was announced after a series of exhibition games against South American opponents. The program was carrying 17 players and had to trim the roster by 5. The players who missed out on selection were Seattle’s Tyson, Los Angeles Lakers’ Andrew Bynum, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Rudy Gay, and Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo.

However, no roster cut came harder than that of New Jersey’s Barney Steele. Coach Krzyzewzki admitted that it was especially tough for him to cut Steele from the team as he was a major factor in helping the USA win Gold in Turkey. “Barney is young and has many years ahead of him. It’s hard to fit everyone on the team and in the end it came down to Gilbert (Arenas) and him. So I had to pick one.”

The Team USA roster is as follows: Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), Jay Gray (Milwaukee Bucks), Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors), LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers), Moses Chara (Sacramento Kings), Carmelo Anthony (New Jersey Nets), Kevin Durant (Seattle Stealth), Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers), Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia 76ers), Joe Johnson (Utah Jazz), Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets), Gilbert Arenas (Washington Wizards).

The United States have essentially the same team as their 2010 World Championship roster except for Bosh replacing Portland’s Greg Oden and Johnson taking Steele’s spot.

Olympic Men’s Basketball Will Be Closer Than It Seems

July 20, 2012

LONDON (AP) – As the Olympic Games get just about set to begin in 7 days, it’s time to take a look at the Men’s Basketball. The competition is always popular and it will be interesting to see if there are any teams ready to snatch Gold from the favorites, the United States of America. After a recommendation by FIBA, the IOC has agreed to raise the number of mens teams to 16 from 12. More teams means more contenders as a number of strong European sides have all qualified through the wildcard tournament.

The USA looks dangerous as they have a roster full of elite talent. Every name is a big name and their biggest weakness could be themselves. With only one true point guard on their roster, everything might fall apart for the much-fancied Team USA come the latter stages of the competition when everyone is fighting for those important shots down the stretch.

China, surprise finalists at the 2010 World Championships, has a strong roster. Yao Ming backtracked on his retirement from international basketball and joined the national side for what will likely be his international swansong at age 32. He will play on what could be the best Chinese team he has ever played for. Led by 2012 NBA number one draft pick Wu Jao, the team boasts NBA talents Yi Jianlian, Mingyu Li and ex-NBA player Sun Yue who is currently playing in Europe. NBA lottery pick Leo Lai will also play in his first Olympic Games for China.

Spain will be led by 2011-12 NBA Rookie of the Year Ricky Rubio and Pacers teammate Marc Gasol. They will be joined by Gasol’s brother Pau, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Rudy Fernandez and Toronto Raptors’ PG Jose Calderon in what should be the groups final Olympics together before Pau and Calderon calls it quits. Their European rivals, Germany, will also field a strong roster with Dallas Mavericks’ PF Dirk Nowitzki, Los Angeles Clippers’ C Chris Kaman, Toronto Raptors’ PG Chris Hova, and NBA Draft prospects Florian Ruf and Christian Oliver. Ruf currently plays in Europe with Spanish Side Real Madrid while Oliver is coming off an impressive freshman year at Virginia University.

Argentina are seen as dark horses to medal at the Games but it’s all depending on the health of Manu Ginobili who is coming off an NBA Championship with the Atlanta Hawks. Seattle Stealth C/F Luis Scola will join Ginobili in what should also be their final Olympic campaign together.

There are a good handful of teams with a great chance of winning gold but Team USA are easily the standouts on paper.

You should consider the Philippines a strong team with Julian Martin and Kenneth Dela Cruz. :P
