It’s widely assumed that Gilbert Arenas will never play another game for the Washington Wizards, even if no one seems quite sure yet how soon or by what means Arenas and the Wiz will ultimately part ways.
So it’s also natural to start wondering which teams out there might be interested in Arenas when the 28-year-old is finished meeting all the sentencing requirements stemming from his felony gun-possession charge and receives his eventual clearance to return to work from NBA commissioner David Stern.
Will Arenas manage to avoid jail time when he’s sentenced March 26? Are the growing whispers true about the Wiz -- fearing they don’t have a strong enough case -- backing off the idea of trying to void Arenas’ contract? How much longer will Arenas remain suspended by the league? Can Washington realistically find a trade partner or negotiate a buyout of Arenas’ contract when it still owes him $80.2 million over the four seasons after this season?
For all the above unknowns in circulation, here’s something definitive I’ve heard from three separate folks close to the situation: Arenas would love to land with the Orlando Magic when this ordeal is over.

NBA commissioner David Stern will not permit Gilbert Arenas to play again for the Washington Wizards this season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday afternoon.
Stern had been considering two suspension scenarios for the former All-Star: the remainder of this season or a full 82-game ban that would extend into next season. League sources said Stern gave Arenas the chance to take the shorter suspension if he pledged not to appeal it.
The Washington Post reported that Arenas told Stern in their meeting on Wednesday that he would ask the union not to fight the suspension. Sources said Arenas has yet to speak with union attorneys or executive director Billy Hunter regarding his decision.
The players union had held out some last-minute hope that Stern would allow Arenas to return to the NBA sooner than next season if the union would concede to amending the current Collective Bargaining Agreement to include a zero-tolerance gun policy. No formal proposal on the specifics of possible penalties for the policy was exchanged, sources say, but the union was open to the idea had the commissioner been willing to shorten the suspensions of Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton.
Crittenton is expected to receive a similar penalty to Arenas, sources said.

NBA commissioner David Stern planned to meet with Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas on Wednesday and an announcement on the full length of Arenas' indefinite suspension could follow.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass confirmed the meeting to The Associated Press.
It was first reported by ESPN.com.
On Tuesday, Stern also met with Wizards guard Javaris Crittenton, who was sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation after pleading guilty Monday to a misdemeanor gun charge.
Arenas pleaded guilty Jan. 15 to a felony gun charge after an alleged confrontation with Crittenton in the Wizards' changing room at Verizon Center in Washington. Arenas, who is in the second season of a six-year, $111 million contract, is scheduled to be sentenced March 26.
