New Jersey is 3-11 with Vandeweghe as the coach.

He's got that over Lawrence Frank, I guess.

I think it's very likely for them to win 3 games between now and the all-star game, and 3 more after the all-star game and another game somewhere in between. They need another 0-10 or more streak to really have a solid chance at breaking this record. A win less January would make this interesting.

I expect they keep up with the 3-11 pace and finish with about 16 wins. Not good by any stretch of the imagination, but not historically bad.

True, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened.

I'm more surprised with Yi Jianlian's performance since his comeback, but he seriously needs to pass more. 0.3 APG on 16.1 PPG and 7.1 RPS seem to be too low on my standard.
Fri Jan 01, 2010 8:36 pm
If you're shooting the ball well enough, you don't need to pass it. Furthermore, the fact that you're not getting assists means that your teammates aren't shooting the ball/making shots right after you pass to them, not that you're not passing.
Fri Jan 01, 2010 9:10 pm
Ofc, but I think lack of passing mind and skills got more to do in Yi's case.
Fri Jan 01, 2010 9:32 pm
How dare you question the skills of the 'chinese Kevin Garnett' ?
Sat Jan 02, 2010 1:39 am
I hope Yi continues to play well. He's playing really well in the past 3 games. FYI, Yi's not a ballhog and he doesn't lack passing mind. He's a 7'0 playing SF/PF. They don't get a lot of assists anyway. Besides, just like koberulz said, just because his assist average is low doesn't mean he's not passing the ball.
Thu Jan 07, 2010 11:36 am
The one good thing is that Yi has had at least 12 shot attempts in each of his past 6 games! Based on that, I am assuming he is a lot more confident now.
Thu Jan 07, 2010 12:42 pm
He's certainly got more opportunities for shots with their current roster.
Thu Jan 07, 2010 12:46 pm
Only three other players have ever put on a usage/assist performance like Yi:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... i?id=Qe6e4The guy has four recorded passes on 163 possessions.
Thu Jan 07, 2010 12:55 pm
We all know how great Eddy Curry was/is.

And 4 passes/163 possessions. Wow.

Meanwhile, they've dropped back to be on pace for seven wins.
Fri Jan 08, 2010 1:39 am
Devin Harris averaged 21.3 last year but only averaging 16.4 at much worse FG%. The circumstances sure are different from last year, but I've never expected them to be this bad. I think they will jack up a few wins late in the season when win/loss don't really count much to other teams, but less than 10 wins for Nets sounds very possible as of now.
Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:46 am
That's a fair prediction, if nothing else they could take advantage of teams losing focus in the final weeks or resting their key players for the last few games when they've got a seed locked up and pad their win total with a "strong" finish.

Or they could try and become the worst NBA team in history with 8 wins or less. At least they would have acheived more (2 records in the same season) than most of the league.
Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:46 am
Aim for the first pick !
Fri Jan 08, 2010 10:04 am
I think it's safe to say they've got the best odds in the lottery locked up. So long as they finish last they'll have the best odds, whether they finish last with six wins or sixteen wins it doesn't matter so long as they're in last place.
Fri Jan 08, 2010 10:24 am
And with their luck, they'll end up picking 4th.
Fri Jan 08, 2010 2:59 pm
What a kick in the nuts that would be, especially if they do break the record.
Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:26 pm
Halfway through the season, they now sit at 3-38 and are currently on a nine game losing streak. Currently on pace to finish with six wins, though their next few games aren't too bad with three of their next five at home and Utah being the only opponent with a winning record.
Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:45 pm
I'm rooting for them to win 8 and under.
Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:54 pm
I think they might make a run in the last 2 weeks of the season when the Paul Pierces and KGs of the world are rested in favour of J.R. Giddens and Brian Scalabrine. Should be enough to get them to that magical 10-win mark.
