Does anyone know what is involved in a physical? How does someone fail it?

Like the physical fitness test you used to do in your P.E. class. Probably much harder/have higher standards (they are professionals) and the tests are more related to basketball. Add also the medical tests to find out things wrong with the body (irregular heart beat, fat %, x-rays, for drugs, STD, etc.).

So that means Von Wafer will not be eligible to play in the league because he fails the physical?

Not at all. It just means the Rockets probably won't be in any hurry to sign him and if there are concerns about his health or conditioning then he might have a difficult time catching on somewhere else. But he's not actually barred from playing in the NBA.

I remember Shareef Abdur-Rahim failing a Nets physical a few years ago after they signed him or something. I'm not sure, but didn't someone else try to sign with the Nets that same offseason and also fail a physical?
