I was just thinking about the worst NBA team name ever and I couldnt think of anything worst than the OKC Thunder. Bring back the Seattle Supersonics or atleast call them the OKC Supersonics. I mean "OKC Thunder" that doesnt even sound right.

The Los Angeles Lakers.

Yeah Thunder is kinda weak. Teams should change their names accordingly when they change locations so that the Lakers stay where there are some lakes around and the Jazz where jazz music is actually important to the city.

Thunder is lame, Bobcats sound like college or D-League, Jazz makes no sense for Utah, Wizards are totally gay (bring back the Bullets!)

Don't know if they were the worst team ever, but that 2003 Denver Nuggets team that started rookies Vincent Yarborough at SG & Junior Harrington at PG were pretty bad

DENVER NUGGETS The team will look for its three rookie starters--C Nene Hilario, SG Vincent Yarbrough and PG Junior Harrington--to continue to improve. The Nuggets also will put a premium on developing rookie SF Nikoloz Tskitishvili, who has shown little after being the No. 5 pick in the draft. PREDICTION: Hilario will make even greater strides in the second half. Hilario, averaging 9.4 points and 6.0 rebounds, already is one of the NBA's top rookies. But his offense, which has been the slowest part of his game to develop, will show much improvement, and he'll become a consistent double-figures scorer once he learns to hit medium-range jumpers.

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m ... n27590848/The team finished 17-65, a lot of which you can probably attribute to defense since this team only scored 84.2ppg (good for last in the league).

I blame the flu & waking up at 4am. I will not delete my post so people can have a laugh at my expense. You must admit though that my post gives this thread a bit more depth

I agree with Lamrock. ,
Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:36 am
Yeah, the Jazz should have changed the name after they moved to Utah. It's fitting for New Orleans, but Utah, not so much.
Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:42 am
Okay
X, now that was nice

But how bad was this Nuggets team. 84 ppg .... .41% shooting and 18 topg.
And Juwan Howard being the go-to-guy with 18 and 7 ... for a cheap 20M $ per year

on topic: Thunder is really a bad name. I really like it when the names match with something special in the region like the Lakers did with Minny back in the days or like the Nuggets and many others do now a days. For the worst name ... I'd go with the Thunder/Bobcats/Raptors.

Haha! I dont get it wat does Thunder have to do with OKC. And ur right Jazz does not make sense foe Utah. I think b4 Utah they were in New Orleans. And Bullets rocked.

I've grown used to the Thunder and Bobcats monikers, but I'd agree they're a couple of the worst names or at least out of place compared to the other NBA team names.
Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:03 pm
I dunno, I always thought the Orlando Magic had a lame name, but I suppose the Utah Jazz take the cake
Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:09 pm
Thunder by far. Purely because they could have called themselves the Oklahoma City Outlaws and been cool, but they chose weather over killing.
Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:16 pm
Outlaws made too much sense. It sounds too good. What would you expect from a Group that stole the Sonics away from Seattle?
Sun Oct 18, 2009 9:21 pm
Lakers, Jazz, Thunder all take the cake.
The X, you fail!

I hate the Bucks. The colours, the mascot, the logo, everything. Just not a fan of the colour or deer I guess.

Same here.

I just want the Seattle Supersonics to return one day which may never happen but they had one of the best team names, logo, and uniforms (excluding the green and red ones). They were the one of the only teams to wear green besides Boston Celtics and Bucks. Although I always hated the Bucks uniforms. Theyre always hideous.

Gary Payton is confident that it'll happen sooner rather than later but I'm not sure about that. Until they can get financing for a new arena, it probably won't happen.

I hear that Sacramento may lose their team as well.
Mon Oct 19, 2009 2:43 pm
Wizards... The Washington Bullets was a great name...
Pacers, silly name for the nba

It might not fit in the NBA, but it represents Indiana well. I just love their former jersey (the Jermaine era). the colors fit the team name well

Thinking about it a little more, what does constitute a good (or at least suitable) name for an NBA team?
Tue Oct 20, 2009 11:51 pm
I think something that sounds right and is appropriate to the area the team is based in is a good team name. For instance, Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs. Now as far as worst team names go for me? I have to go with the bobcats. How self serving do you have to be to name a team after yourself then after a few years try to sell it?

What the hell? I never realized that.
