Knicks claim PG Williams off waivers
The New York Knicks claimed point guard Jason Williams(notes) off waivers Friday from the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The Knicks have until Aug. 6 to negotiate a contract with the 10-year NBA veteran. Williams actually retired on Sept. 26, 2008, from the Los Angeles Clippers despite never playing in a game with the club after being signed as a free agent a month earlier.

So now it's all up to Williams if he want to play basketball again.

They passed up on a good young point guard to get a bad old one.

Who cares? Going to sell heaps of jersey's.

Basketball isn't just about making money by selling heap of jerseys. That's why a lot of people will care.

Basketball isn't just about making money
are you sure?

Come on, are you really telling me that the NBA is only/all about money? OK, it's a big contributing factor but it isn't the only one. Decorate the backboard with Benjamin and the floor with Lincoln then.

I wouldn't say that, but can't say that Knicks basketball is all about winning next season either...

True. If Williams decide to return, does he still got what it takes to sell heaps of jerseys though? I mean, he's not what he used to be anymore, will fans still buy into him like they used to?

Idk.. probably not so much. I bet he gets more freedom to play attractive basketball though, and not just play a pass over 5 feet to Dwayne Wade every offensive possession.
He is still very popular and so are the Knicks so they should sell some.

Glad that he's back. He was still capable NBA caliber player when he retired. I don't think he'll be anywhere near his old days, but hope to see him not getting waived.

Imo he is pretty much done. After loosing his streetball style he turned out to be a boring player making bad decisions. Before he was a fancy player making bad decisions. Which was kind of fun I guess.

This is kind of off topic. But a friend of mine from Miami said he used to sell Jason Williams weed. He would come to the housing projects he lived in by himself in a cherry red lambo buy his weed and take off without any trouble. Kind of funny to me.

So Jason Williams smoke weed.. OK...

In all seriousness Williams is not the only player in the NBA to do that, but these guys are so "professional" they know their ways around how not to get caught, unlike Josh Howard.

I guess it's a decent insurance policy for one season if Nate Robinson decides to go to Greece rather than accept the qualifying offer. If Nate does re-sign though I doubt Williams will see a lot of time behind him and Duhon.

I don't know man.....Jason Williams is a crappy player
Knicks should have taken Sessions in my opinion
Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:00 pm
I don't think they've actually signed him as yet.

I think it's a gamble. Jason Williams hasn't played professionally for a year, if at all. He might as well start rapping or something.
He's also a dumbass, not realizing that he could have started on the Clippers for nearly half a season when Baron got injured. Also he's dumb for not knowing that the Clippers are a drop-off club that you play selfishly for in order to get a better contract from another team the next season.

I'm inclined to believe that a 30 win team without a PG prospect signing a PG for the veteran minimum is not a risk.

Grizzlies are interested in him and they fit your description as well.

Magic sign free agent Jason WilliamsTheir least impressive move of the offseason, though they've got Nelson to start and Johnson as a reliable backup. I expect Williams will be a "there if they need him" third point guard but good luck to him all the same.

They managed to replace Rafer Alston with his white counterpart. Touche, Otis Smith. Touche.

least impressive but most impressive on the court so far
He's nr 22 on the plus/minus stats all season (+159) 2nd of Magic behind Dwight.
