Since they lost Bass and Gortat, Gooden isn't bad addition. He might take away Dampier's already limited playing time, but he probably won't play more than 20 minutes per game. If he focused more on his defense, it would turn out better for Dallas. But for those 5 M he's not a bad pickup.

Wow, I'm really excited now.

If nothing else, Twitter is proving an effective way of leaking news to the masses.
Good move all around. The Mavericks lost out with Bass going to Orlando and the Magic matching the offer for Gortat, but Gooden isn't a bad consolation prize. For Gooden, he's going to another top eight team in the West where he'll get some decent playing time, which was going to be hard to come by in San Antonio with the moves that the Spurs have made.

C/PF rotation now includes Dampier, Nowitzki, Marion, Gooden and Hollins. That's pretty decent. I doubt Gooden will get more then 20 MPG though.

I think he could. Damp's minutes are only going to decrease over the next few years. And Marion's last season and a half have just been lukewarm. Drew Gooden, when he comes to play is still one of the better rebounders in the league, and the Mavs will always be able to find a use for him.

I'm praying for Marion to find that resurgence in Dallas though -- no doubt that he's one hell of a player and a change of scenery into an environment of renewed competition and an offensive scheme that works for him are two factors working in his favor.

Marion is a guy who will profit from Jason Kidd. He needs a PG who can find him cutting to the basket or throw alley oops passes. Marion was never good at creatin his own shot. I think he has a chance to find his A game in Dallas. (maybe only his B Game since hes already 30 I guess)
Gooden would really help deepen the big man rotation. Hollins is a FA right now and it seems like the Pacers would like to pick him up. No problem I guess ... he brought some energy and 1-2 dunks but he struggled with fouls all the time and is not a good defender in the post imho. I'd rather take Gooden off the bench than Bass, too. Bass takes too many shots and I think Gooden is the better rebounder.

The Mavs don't want Damp back after this coming season, so they're obviously going to make sure he doesn't meet any requirements. I forgot exactly what they were, one was making a couple of All-Star games (huh-huh-huh-huh) and another was a minutes requirement, which he won't make now. They're either going to take the cap space or use it in a sign-and-trade.
