Re: Andre Miller To Join The Blazers

i was thinking the "half court" style playing Portland was looking for a PG who could stretch the defense and hit 3pters/defend well... none of which are Andre Miller's strengths

maybe PHilly could use hinrich now haha

This won't make the Blazers a better regular season team, but it will improve their chances in the playoffs, as the predictability of their offense was exposed this year against Houston.

Besides that I disagree to me it is obvious: they had to sign a FA first to use the cap space left, now that is out of the way the extensions can be adressed.

Hedonist, I am very aware that common sense means you use your available cap space to sign free agents then re-sign your own players to extensions. The thing is you can make agreements in principle that get signed after all the other stuff is sorted. Brandon Roy is the franchise & they don't seem willing to give him a 5 year deal due to injury concerns but they offered an above average 30 year old one. That was my argument. Seems like strange logic to me, that's all.

Hedo is very slightly below average.

Maybe you know more than I do, I only read one report on it with those quotes of Roy and I took it with a big pile of salt.

The 5 year offer for Turkoglu was a smart move, that goes without saying. :D

Are you being sarcastic? They already had 3 young small forwards. And they guy is 30 years old. He's not getting any younger and he's not going to improve his game. I think Miller is better that Turkoglu (for Portland)

He's a Turkoglu fan, he's not being sarcastic.

He is trying to make Hedo the new Darko. The Hedo signing would have destroyed the Blazer's title hopes, and has essentially subscribed Toronto to half a decade of mediocrity. In actuality, Turkoglu deserved an MLE contract with decreases each year.

What The X says and the lockjam on SF is another thing. Trade away two for starting caliber PG (could've even been Miller in S&T I suppose).

This way you add experience and leadership to the team. It's way better than three talents fighting for minutes imo. At least if you want to compete on the short term that is. If you want to keep developing your talent and reap the benefits later than I think you make different decisions.

The debate about age is getting old. It's fine if people think Turkoglu is average imo or overpaid but 30 is not old in the NBA. 33 isn't either. 35 is getting there. Turkoglu is not known for athleticism or speed, but ball handling and decision making, aspects of the game in which older players do very well.

I'm not trying to do anything, let alone make myself ridiculous. Ahum.

Three teams offered much higher contracts - not to mention that most teams didn't have the chance if they wanted to - nuff said. Toronto will be fine. Allthough I know for a fact that you take the term mediocre lightly so maybe I just differ with you on that one because of semantics, can't tell.
