Re: LeBron gets dunked on; Nike confiscates tapes.

Thu Jul 23, 2009 9:33 am

that wasn't that bad. i'm thinking it was a poster dunk, that shit was nada.

Re: LeBron gets dunked on; Nike confiscates tapes.

that was worth hiding?? if lebron just left it at that people would have forgotten it by now!!!

I was thinking that the dunk made was a real tomahawk crashing on LeBron.

I'm with you guys, seeing the footage makes the confiscation look all the more petty. :?

Re: LeBron gets dunked on; Nike confiscates tapes.

It wasn't even a full dunk on... LeBron was pretty much at his side when the dunk happened, definitely not worth all the media hype.

Re: LeBron gets dunked on; Nike confiscates tapes.

Thu Jul 23, 2009 1:08 pm

Oh well. That wasn't even a posterize. Crawford barely touched LeBron's body, it was just a little bump. Crawford went up for a two handed dunk, LeBron attempted to block it but wasn't successful. LeBron thought he got dunked on really badly and so had all the tapes confiscated. Unfortunately some audience filmed it and the tape finally leaks. We all get to watch it and realised that all this is really nonsense. That's all there is to all the media hype.

True, but the talk went beyond the dunk itself, right into an examination of LeBron's character. Amongst players who have gone straight from high school to the pros, LeBron has carried himself quite well for the most part and is probably the modern poster child for those who argue against the current age limit. However, some of the things he's done in recent months have been uncharacteristically childish for a player who has to date made a habit of showing maturity beyond his years.

I couldn't agree more. LeBron is a perfect role model for his well behaviour and level of maturity despite his jump from high school straight to the NBA. That is until his recent actions, both this tape confiscating and the buzz he caused after losing to the Magics in the ECF.

Re: LeBron gets dunked on; Nike confiscates tapes.

Thu Jul 23, 2009 3:28 pm

The thing is, with better damage control he needn't have looked like a sore loser after the ECF. If he'd come out and said basically said look, I was upset and frustrated at the time but I didn't mean any disrespect and I know it wasn't the sporting thing to do, no big deal. But he gave that wishy washy excuse about being a "winner" which entailed not congratulating a victorious opponent which was positively eye-rolling. He let his emotions get the best of him and made some decisions in the heat of the moment which weren't particularly sporting or demonstrative of his usual mature attitude not to mention his role as the leader of the team. "It wasn't my best moment, but I was pissed off": that's all he had to say, in a nutshell. The excuses were disappointing though, somewhat out of character for him.

The dunk certainly didn't live up to the hype. Just like the Cavs last season.

The original confiscated tapes are going to be returned. Only 1 captured the dunk.

Exactly. Yet here you and the media and everyone else is still talking about LeBron and Nike.

Read that, sounds like a bunch of lame excuses from Nike saying that it was all about Media Policy and not about the play or the player at all.

If NIKE representatives confiscated the tapes, why is LEBRON JAMES the focus of the media hate parade here?

Re: LeBron gets dunked on; Nike confiscates tapes.

Sat Jul 25, 2009 10:28 pm

Because LeBron is the one who told the reps to confiscate the tapes. Read the articles in this thread.

It really wasn't that bad. Lebron was playing in a pick-up game not the finals. To me it looks like Lebron wasn't expecting him to dunk jumped and put a hand up and he basicly dunked over his arm. He barely made contact with his body. If they didn't confiscate the tape no one would care anymore.

I think the reports of it have varied, from what I've seen over the past few weeks. And frankly, I'm more inclined to trust the initial reports as being more accurate than the "Well, now that you mention it...it WAS Lebron James who brought it up" type of reports that are coming out more recently.
