do you have AA on? I suggest you try to lower AA first, or try turning vync on

here are my benchmark results and i can tell you that with vsync on my fps may be lower but at least consistent (thus feeling smoother) versus vsync off where I get higher fps but higher fluctuations. I would also suggest you try to check your AA settings maybe its set too high?

1680x1050
MSAA 4x
MSAA quality 2x
Anisotropic Filtering 16x (forced via nvidia CP)
All high (Player detail ultra high)
All ON

vsync on
2009-06-04 00:16:44 - nba2k9
Frames: 2058 - Time: 34412ms - Avg: 59.804 - Min: 57 - Max: 61

vsync off

2009-06-04 00:22:22 - nba2k9
Frames: 1974 - Time: 29248ms - Avg: 67.491 - Min: 52 - Max: 88

here's mine wickedwaway
what about the nvidia control panel? how can i use it to optimize the use of my vidcard?

vsync on

which one is smoother for you? vsync on or off?

I see you can hit over 60fps even with vsync on? are you using a CRT monitor?

Re: NBA 2K9 System Requirements-Can I run the Game?

Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:17 pm

vsync on is much smoother for me..
yeah i notice that too. i can see that even if i turn on or off vsync i can hit high fps but only differs in fluctuations.. im using a crt monitor..does that affect anything?

Re: NBA 2K9 System Requirements-Can I run the Game?

CRT monitors have high refresh rates hence you get a higher cap for FPS with vsync on (your fps will be capped to your monitor's refresh rate)

LCD monitors on the other hand are typically limited to 60hz (there are 120hz ones but very expensive at the moment) so with vsync on, the FPS would be capped to a max of 60fps

now if your system can average above 60fps that would more or less mean you can keep your fps at a steady 60fps thus avoiding huge fluctuations.
I havent played around much with the nvidia control panel though with the exception of forcing 16X AF

can you try turning both vsync and triple buffering if it helps? just a guess though but might be worth a try

I'm purchasing a new laptop next week because I need an upgraded system. I'm not dumb but I'm not an expert on things like this. Does one of these systems would work with NBA 2K9 PC? If someone who is an expert could tell me I would appeciate that.

1. 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB) or

2. NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600M GT

Video Memory:
512MB DDR3 discrete memory + up to 1791MB shared memory
Intel® Core™2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz Processor

3.
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
NVIDIA® GeForce® 9800M GTS graphics

2 or 3. Depends on the price. But any of them will run 2k9.

Personally I'd pick 2nd one - I have a similar laptop.

hi guys i can play nba 2k9 all high .

zotac 8600gt 256mb

amd athlon le-1600 2.2ghz

1.5gig 667mhz ram

and in nvdia setting it is set to quality.

well i wanted to play in ultra high so i am planning to upgrade to amd athlon 64 x2 5200+.

will it work for me? well for me i think it will and will be smooth.. since its a huge jump from a single core with low clock speed. :)

what do you think?

Yes. Dual core cpu is the requirement for increasing player detail to ultra high.

Can anyone help me? I've been playing 2k9 for about 2 months. I could run it smoothly with everything maxed out (occasional crashes though because of display driver). After I upgraded my display driver, it got worse.

At first, the performance was ok and suddenly got worse for a while, a couple of days later it just was bad all the time. It happened with Fallout 3 as well (only the 1st part), so I found another display driver (the latest, with modded inf file). It fixed the issue with Fallout 3, but 2k9 is still the same. I'm sure it's the display driver because I haven't done anything else that could affect it so much.

The problem is that I can't fix it. I reinstalled the display driver, but that doesn't change anything. And I know that I was doing it the right way. Maybe someone has had a similar problem?

I feel even more bad because I have it for only 2 months.. :?

I'm using GeForce 8600M GT on my laptop. Yeah, it's overheating. Usually when I was checking the temperature with Everest, it was medium to high, but nothing to be worried about. I just checked it with FanGUI, and it's definetely way too high. Any idea how could I solve it, at least while I buy an external cooler or do something like that? I can't afford to do anything else now, since my studies start in 2 weeks and I'll need my laptop there.

EDIT I already had the latest BIOS and manually setting fan speed to high doesn't help.

my friend has a intel 4; 2,66, single core, 1gb ram and an old graph.card. since there's only a agp (not a pci-e) he's think of buying a hd3850.
will he be able to play nba 2k9? (on what settings) should he double he's ram as well?

can some1 speculate, what will be requirments for 2k10?

What's the brand of your laptop? If it's HP, you're fucked.

It's Dell.

If you know how to, clean the insides of your laptop with some compressed air to remove dust build up.

Know what is exactly the thing that is overheating, GPU or CPU?
If it's the CPU I think you can place a new thermal paste to be in contact with heat sink/metal plate that's linked to the exhaust fan.
I think opening your laptop voids the warranty though.

Re: NBA 2K9 System Requirements-Can I run the Game?

Mon Aug 17, 2009 2:22 pm

If you still have a warranty, contact Dell and see if they will fix it.

Re: NBA 2K9 System Requirements-Can I run the Game?

Mon Aug 17, 2009 5:29 pm

It's still under warranty. I hope that placing a new thermal paste will be enough.

I'm more concerned about GPU, but CPU temperature is higher than it should be too. Not as much as GPU though. I'll try to contact Dell today. Hopefully repairing it won't take too much time.

Thanks.
