Crawford finally out of Golden State

Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:25 am

NBA.com wrote:The Golden State Warriors dealt with their troubled backcourt situation Wednesday by agreeing to deal guard Jamal Crawford to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton, according to a league source.

The move solidifies the Hawks at a position where Atlanta had a potential problem this coming offseason, with incumbent Mike Bibby entering free agency.

I don't like it. More guards competing with my beloved C.J. Watson.

I guess than the Hawks weren't counting on Bibby coming back.

Crawford isn't a true PG, but he's a rather explosive scorer who can help the Hawks with their scoring inconsistency. He could prove to be a great 2 off the bench.

Crawford didn't really have much left to do in GS with Monta coming back from injury anyway.

Law still has some potential left.

Am I the only one who sees this as a huge steal by the Hawks?
Claxton didn't play any games lately and Acie Law has a career MIN/G of like 1.5, while Crawford can still put up 20 points a night.

Crawford is a poor man's Ben Gordon. He can't play defense, and is laughably inefficient. Golden State managed to dump him for an expiring and an unguaranteed contract.

To me, in many ways he was always seen as Rick Davis kind of player.

Won't he be playing behind Joe Johnson? Nice from one place where they don't want him to another where they don't really need him.

They don't need him? When did they suddenly get a championship-level bench?

I was thinking the same thing. It might not translate into anything wonderful for the Hawks but it looks good on paper. Meanwhile, the Warriors addressed their glut of guards by trading one guard for two who very well might not even play significant minutes for them regardless.

Nothing about the Hawks is championship-level. They are a team built for a mid-playoff seed, and getting Crawful hurts their chances

Not compared to Acie Law and Speedy Claxton. Crawford replaces Flip Murray as the average combo guard off the bench that helped them win so many games this year.

I was at a Sonics game a few years ago - the year before that random playoff run. Murray was at the free throw line - I was somewhat close up and shouted "BRICK" as soon as he released. He missed and looked up in my general direction. Awesome.

I also believe the Hawks stole a guy, who still can put up 20 on any given night. Even more, could reach 50. Doubtful with the Hawks, but he did have 50 against the Cats and 40 against my Heat.

Dude can't play D though. He's a streaky-as-hell shooter who's probably cutting into their payroll when they need to get a point guard (resign Mike Bibby?)

And I don't know how it works for the Warriors now. It was a good salary-moving deal, but it still leaves them with a mediocre bunch of point guards and they may have to get on in the draft.

Johnson can play PG if Crawford is in the starting lineup.
The way Johnson plays, they should let Crawford be the main scorer. Johnson tends to be passive with his scoring at times, and he's the guy whom the Hawks depend to score when they really need it.

If they do re-sign Bibby, Crawford could be effective as their sixth man. Defense isn't his strong suit but he can certainly score and he's good enough at getting the ball to his teammates as well. Not everyone on a team is going to be a shutdown defender.

He can really be the next Sixth Man of the Year if they do resign Bibby. Who knows, they might enter the ECF.

I don't know about that, if I had to make a pick for the 2010 ECF right now I'd pick some combination of the Cavs, Magic and Celtics (and if I had to go out on a limb and pick just one, I'd say Cavs/Magic).

Just go for the Magic.

I'm actually more interested in another team making the ECF, but that seems highly unlikely.

it's a good trade for crawford- Johnson is the ideal guard to pair him with. Johnson can share the ball handling duties and guard shooting guards while Crawford can occasionally fire away on offense and guard PGs.

every year my hope for the East is that the Bobcats have their breakout season. If you were to give a college basketball fan [who doesn't watch NBA basketball at all] a list of all the NBA rosters, he would definitely be appalled to find that the Bobcats aren't a top10 team.

Re: Crawford finally out of Golden State

Well, sure, but presumably that fan wouldn't be aware that success in college doesn't always translate to success in the pros and that the Bobcats have had numerous injury problems almost every year they've been in the league. They probably could've at least made a token playoff appearance as the eighth seed a couple of times if not for key players missing most of the season (or all of it).
