Lol @ the phantom microphone. He looked cooler back then... but he'd never get away with a promo like that in the current WWE. It's like he's cutting a promo at an episode of Jerry Springer.

that was great
Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:38 am
Agreed, but definitely something that would only really work in an indy promotion. They could simply have him come out as a tweener and let the crowd ultimately decide, it's forcing someone as one thing or another that gets Cena such mixed reactions.
Mon Jun 15, 2009 8:35 pm
Cena is a reformed wigger. That's why people think he's a flake.
Tue Jun 16, 2009 12:16 am
I think he has a bit of Rocky Maivia about him too, pretty much shoved down everyone's throats from day one. Even when he was Prototype in the OVW they were planning on mega-pushing him to god knows where. A bit like Brock Lesnar, only they did that properly.
Tue Jun 16, 2009 12:38 am
I love the feud/plots between Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle, not to mention their matches were good too, imo.

That microphone

EDIT: Punk should have just joined Spirit Squad:

Me too, especially that Shooting Star Press from Brock in WMXIX where he landed on his neck.
I don't know if the show today on Raw would be like an opener for feuds in Night Of Champions though The (Great American) Bash comes off first. But I pick Orton, Punk, and Dreamer to win it.

Lesnar's size helped him a lot as far as making a monster push look credible. Cena has a fairly prototypical pro wrestling physique but he's not the biggest guy on the roster and his current character is too corny to succeed as a face with older fans. If he were an arrogant heel, or even an arrogant face with an edge, it wouldn't be so much of a problem.

Donald Trump is the new owner of RAW. Is this kayfabe?
Tue Jun 16, 2009 11:51 pm
Yes, obviously.
I was right with two of three predictions, guess a Cena win would have been way too random.
Wed Jun 17, 2009 12:17 am
I picked the Cena win purely because it would've made absolutely no sense at all. The Donald Trump thing is stupid and random, when are they going to stop acting like the fans believe the two "brands" are literally different companies.
Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:55 pm
Yeah, it's taking the idea of "anything can happen in the WWF/E" way too far, a bit too out of left field for my tastes.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:28 am
Great slammiversary btw. Sting is done though. He needs to only cut promo's and not wrestle. Manager maybe.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 10:51 am
Raw was on crack. Seems like the "Trump Takeover" was just randomly placed there to cut a promo on ticket refunds.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 2:37 pm
I read that the WWE stock prices took a hit after the "Trump buys RAW" thing because the shareholders were confused, maybe that's why they killed it early.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 7:36 pm
I'd say so, apparently the SEC is getting involved which has turned the whole thing into a disaster for the WWE. The sooner they completely wash their hands of that blown angle, the better.

Guess they didn't think that Trump storyline properly.
Just like the WWE doesn't do storylines properly these days. Nothing new there, I guess.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:48 pm
I don't know, HHH/Orton has been OK and Taker/HBK was great albeit short but had a great blowoff match. Celebrity angles are a bit too corny these days though so the Trump stuff was doomed from the start. He's not really a celebrity I'm interested in seeing on WWE's programming either.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:03 pm
There are exceptions like the ones you mentioned but the WWE rarely gets it right, like 1/10 or 2/10 that are only interesting storylines.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:30 pm
I don't really watch TNA but they don't seem to be doing much better with some classic Russo booking and rehashed WWF/WWE and even WCW angles.
Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:32 pm
Do you guys think the WWE could act like ECW was in the past? Have crappy storyline angles but make up for it by playing each match to the crowd and having stories where the wrestlers actually fight each night rather than run (like Orton)
Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:35 pm
Possibly, though the PG approach is really hurting matches in heated feuds.

Same here. I barely watch watch any wrestling anymore.

That HHH-Orton match at Wrestlemania is a perfect example. That match was too weak after a long exchange in the feud.

With Taker out, I've been watching very casually. I don't care for what they've done with the announce teams either.

And pretty much all of Extreme Rules, from what I heard.
