http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... the_works/I don't think this trade makes any sense for the T'wolves. I don't know if its just me, but I'd take Jefferson over Stoudemire any day of the week. Not only that, the Wolves may also give up the 6th overall pick. IF it falls through the Suns are getting the better end of this deal.

Exactly what I was thinking while the page loaded after I clicked the topic title.

I'd pick Stoudemire over Jefferson 10 times of 10. Both are young, both have had serious injuries lately, both aren't very good defenders, but Stoudemire can post enormous numbers if he's teams primary scorer.
But it still isn't improvement they need. They should build around that guy not trade him. They won't be much higher in standings, if they make this trade instead of an upgrade in other positions.

Say thanks to the Canadian Guy .
Stoudemire's playing style is so predictable and really one-sided so I'd rather pick Jefferson .
Jefferson over Stoudemire .

Not really that bad of a trade for Minnesota, the draft isn't that strong and i'd rather have someone coming off a retina surgery than a torn ACL. Plus Amare will be the #1 spot he's always wanted to be. I don't think anyone else on the team would challenge him for that spot like shaq did.

Remember his numbers before they traded for Shaq? He's the only big man right now who could post 25-30 ppg, if he's healthy. Nash actually doesn't help that much. It's their style of play, that doesn't change much even with Barbosa instead of Nash. Besides, Jefferson is an average shooter and doesn't get to the line nearly as often as he should.

That's why he's predictable .

Why? Because he's that good? Or because Jefferson isn't?

Yeah, the Suns would get the better end of this deal. 6th overall pick in this draft. It means the Suns will start the rebuilding process. There has been rumors that Amar'e wants to be traded, right?

Wait, Al Jefferson isn't a good defender?
I always believed that he was a thought presence inside
I'm still waiting a trade for Amare in exchange of Rudy Gay, Warrick and Conley
Fri Jun 19, 2009 1:08 am
No, he is not.
He's an inside presence because of his offense.

As long as they have him, I think Amare would work out fine for the Timberwolves. What makes it a risky move is his looming free agency in 2010. He could well bolt when his contract is up while Jefferson is signed through 2013. Quite likely the Suns are concerned that they won't be able to keep him beyond 2010 and since they're looking to rebuild anyway, would like to swap him for someone with a longer deal whom they can try and build around.

There were times when Amare was up there with Dwight as best big men. Amare sort of took a step backward while Dwight flourished. During those times, I had a feeling that Amare would want the team by himself, him as the centerpiece. Initially, I thought the management would do whatever neccessary to keep him, but it seems they're going in a quite different direction. Amare seems like a great franchise player, and I don't understand why they wouldn't try their best to keep him. Nash and Shaq will get you nowhere. If it's anyone that can bring you better chances, I think it'll be Amare for the Phoenix. Jefferson? I don't think he's in Amare's league without a doubt, well at least for now. Or why not trade Amare for Jermaine O'neal. It works for both sides.

Amare for Jermaine is worse than Amare for Al, imo.

2010 Cap Space .

Wade gets a great inside force which creates synergy 1-2 punch effect, and PHX gets... another O'neal.
End of discussion.

I don't believe the Wolves are actually considering this. I think the margin is pretty slim between Amare and Jefferson, but to throw in the 6th pick is just ridiculous. Its a lateral move at best for Minny and they would be giving up a chance to pick up young talent in a position of need. I think Johnny Flynn or Stephen Curry are both good fits for them.

It'd be a hard call, but I'd personally want Jefferson to be honest. Amare's shown that he can be a dominant force in the league, but his personality seems a bit volatile at times, where as Jefferson seems to have a much more humbled demeanor. Stoudemire doesn't seem to rebound as well as Jefferson, but Amare is definitely the more explosive player of the two.
You already have a really nice up and coming front court duo of Jefferson/Love, why would you mess with that?
That is, of course I'm undermining the severity of Jefferson's injury and he can't return to the 20-11 monster that he was before.

I like this trade for Phoenix but I don't want Amare to leave. The 6th pick is huge for the Suns, they really need some young talent to get on the team. Jefferson is more of a low block post up guy, Amare is pick and roll dunker. I don't know how the Suns are going to play (fast paced run and gun or half court), but if they're going back to the run & gun, I don't think Jefferson is the choice. If they're completely rebuilding, I'd get Jefferson and the pick, sounds very good for the near future!

From realgm.com:
A source confirmed to the Boston Globe on Thursday that the Timberwolves will not trade Al Jefferson to the Suns.
There were rumors late Wednesday of a deal that would send Jefferson and the sixth overall pick to Phoenix for Amare Stoudemire.
One source acknowledged that the two teams discussed a trade, but another said that the Suns quickly turned down the swap.
Minnesota general manager David Kahn has even called Jefferson to tell him that a trade will not occur, according to one of the sources.

Denial is often a sign that something's up when it comes to trades, but as Indy noted the inclusion of the draft pick is a little much (I must admit I overlooked that completely) so this one probably isn't going anywhere after all.

Here are former number 6 picks.
2008 Danilo Gallinari
2007 Yi Jianlian
2006 Brandon Roy
2005 Martell Webster
2004 Josh Childress
2003 Chris Kaman
2002 Dajuan Wagner
2001 Shane Battier
2000 DerMarr Johnson
1999 Wally Szczerbiak
1998 Robert Traylor
1997 Ron Mercer
Unless it's like Amare for Al + Roy, Battier, or Kaman,I think is an ok trade for the Wolves.

Some low cards in that deck. Some sixth picks work out quite well though.

ATL really missed Roy and Gay on that Night .

I really don't like this trade .
If this happens . . . no question , Phoenix will get the monkey off Minnesota .
- Why do I pick Big Al over S.T.A.T. ?
Better rebounder , a team guy , great attitude off the court . . . better scorer .
Amare' is just a selfish guy with no moves .

Why do you need moves if you're dunking all the time? And are you blind if you say that Jefferson is better scorer? Amare is the best, when it comes down to scoring.
