Forum Upgrade

If you've had problems accessing the Forum in the past 12 hours or so, it's because we've been making some upgrades in an effort to curb the spambot problem that's been plaguing us. Hopefully we shouldn't get flooded anymore but we've scouted out some additional measures we can take if these upgrades still let some bots by. Thanks for your patience and my apologies for any inconvenience. If you run into any issues following the upgrades (you shouldn't as I've doublechecked and fixed up a couple of pesky errors, but just in case) or you encounter any spambots, please let us know.

You've deleted those spambots' threads and messages?

Well we try to do that as they happen but we've upgraded so we should be better protected against being flooded in the future and we have some other things we can try if they continue to cause problems.

Skynet is trying really hard now.

The thought occurs that we probably will see a few more since spambots don't always flood us the minute they register themselves. So long as we're not flooded by bots that have registered after June 1st, we might just have stopped the flow...for now.

Any plans of sending someone to the past to warn past Andrew about the bot problem?

I just realised that I'd missed a step in the upgrade which I've just completed, during which time the Forum was inactive. All should be fine now.

The updates have cut down on the spambots a little but we will be exploring the additional measures to try and better fend them off.

I've come to the conclusion .ru email accounts should just be banned altogether. People in Russia can sign up for Gmail.
