WIZARDS, TIMBERWOLVES CHANGE COACHING STAFF JUST BEFORE PLAYOFFSMar 7, 2009 12:14 PM EST

You sure got the best out of this deal. I doubt Blazers will do it for real, but I think it's and all right deal.

john26's Raptors blog - A Series of Unfortunate Events13 November 2008, 3:11 pm
Well, it was an awful start for the Raptors. After high-hopes of a good start by acquiring Jermaine O'neal from Indiana, rookies Rudy Fernandez and Nicolas Batum from Portland, the Raptors played disappointingly losing Bosh for 5 games and Calderon for 2 games. They won their first two, but unexpected injuries killed the spirit instantly as the Raptors dropped their next six games to be at 2-6.
Who's to blame? Bryan Colangelo has been starting trade talks between the Utah Jazz of acquiring Andrei Kirilenko but still not helping. As for most of the games the Raptors played, Jamario Moon is either sleeping at the perimeter or going for pump fakes. Anthony Parker is a step slower, but his locker-room attitude will make him stay for longer. Jermaine O'neal has become Jamaal Magloire - and has been canceling out Bosh's effectiveness and replacing it with subpar production. Jose Calderon's hamstring is hurt from playing for Spain, and he is also out with a separated shoulder. Jason Kapono seem to be playing laid back, after being offered a 15 million contract. Any of these guys are part of the team's current struggles as all have failed to play up to expectations.
But, there were still some good signs of good future in the roster. Nicolas Batum exceeded expectations, being a ball conveyor and a defensive specialist while scoring effectively. Rudy Fernandez has good understanding of the game. Pritchard is surely not pleased with what he gave up for, but he got a steal with Randy Foye though and the fascination with Roy and Outlaw will never end. Roko Ukic, who was drafted in 2005, showed some good signs of being a promising backup, but inexperience is still showing. Andrea Bargnani became the team's second scoring option and best man-on-man defender, after working together with Jermaine O'neal.
It seems that the Raptors aren't looking at problems regarding interior toughness. Its just that, they lack experienced perimeter defenders.
In the six losses the Raptors have suffered, they have led by more than 7 points in one part of the game, and in 3 of their 6 losses, they were leading with less than 3 minutes left in the game. The Raptors seem to play 40 minute basketball instead of 48 minute basketball. They seem to come short always, and that needs to change. Maybe some free-agent signings can give this team some depth and boost, but whatever it is they are currently suffering, they need to get out of their slump now as they are not filling stadium seats at all.-----------------------------------
Comments welcome.
