Wayman Tisdale dies at 44

(AP) -- Wayman Tisdale, a three-time All-American at Oklahoma who played 12 seasons in the NBA, died after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 44.

Tisdale died Friday morning at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, hospital spokeswoman Joy McGill said.

After three years at Oklahoma, Tisdale played in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns. The 6-foot-9 forward, with a soft left-handed touch on the court and a wide smile off it, averaged 15.3 points for his career. He was on the U.S. team that won the gold medal in the 1984 Olympics.

I'm pretty sad... He was a good player and a great person. Condolences to his family

That's very sad indeed to lose such a great person.. I'm sure lot of people will miss him. Deepest condolence to his relatives.

That's a real shame, it looked like he might have had it beat when they amputated his leg last year. Too soon...rest in peace.

Yep, I thought the same when I watched that update on his amputation back in December....he was upbeat, cancer appeared to be gone & he was getting on with his life....unfortunately when cancer hits the bone, chances are never good....

Trust me, cancer are not easy to beat. Once you have it treated there are numerous ways in which you can prevent it from recurring, but it will still return sooner or later. Unfortunately the existing methods of curing cancer can be more harmful than useful, chemotheraphy can make the cancer cells more tolerance and radiotheraphy tends to mutate the cells and makes them even harder to treat. Once it hits the organs inside the body especially the bone or liver then the rest will happen very fast. Dont ask me how I know all of this, but I really miss my mother.

He was so optimist about it ,some months ago,but it finally take him down.

Looked at the video from NBA.com, didn't know all that much about him. A really great person, always cheerful despite the amputated leg.. Great singer, also.

Sad day for basketball fans....first Coach Daly, now Wayman. Wayman put Oklahoma basketball on the map. And he surprised us with his musical skills. He'll be missed.

No doubt, we're certainly a long way from total cures. Some are lucky of course and as of the last update on him it seemed he would be one of them following the amputation. Unfortunately it wasn't to be.
