Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

Okay, basically I try to open NBA Live 08 and the screen goes black (normal) to load and a few seconds later, it returns to my desktop. I try to open the window for the game again but it just does the same thing. I've tried reinstalling the game itself but it doesn't work either.
Help please?

Try deleting the contents of your workingdb and currentdb folders. It might be worth removing any patches you have installed (uninstalling usually doesn't get rid of those) or at least moving them to another folder temporarily so that you definitely have a "clean" installation.

Nope, that doesn't work. I tried uninstalling the program and deleted the NBA Live 08 folder in Program Files as well as the one in My Documents, then reinstalled but it still doesn't work.

NBA Live 07 would sometimes do the same thing, the only solution being to keep reinstalling the game until it worked. I'd say that's a last resort though as there should be a simpler solution.
Has anything else changed since you first installed NBA Live 08 and the crashing began?

have you played the game, then, all of a sudden, it does this or is this the first time you had the game? it maybe a hardware problem.

I've played the game for a long time now and it hasn't done this to me. However, I did reinstall Windows once recently 'cause it didn't work, but I don't recall it happening after I reinstalled it. Then one day, I did alt+tab out of the game and couldn't get back into it 'cause the screen would always jump back to another window. And now it wouldn't even load up.

Have you changed/updated any hardware and/or drivers lately?
Wed Apr 15, 2009 10:35 pm
I recently got my mic to work and that's about it. Don't think that should've/would've/could've made a difference.
I tried reinstalling again and it still doesn't work.

Maybe there's some corrupt registry entries relating to NBA Live 08. Try uninstalling and then using a registry cleaner before reinstalling.
Wed Apr 15, 2009 10:45 pm
Registry Cleaner? What do you mean?
Wed Apr 15, 2009 10:50 pm
It's diagnostic/repair software. You should be able to get one at
Download.com. If you're not sure about it then don't use it, but I'm not sure what else to suggest at this point.

Would there be a specific one you could recommend? I don't want to download wrong things lol.
Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:29 am
I can't recommend any personally but I'd go for one that has a high rating from CNet's editors and users.
Before you go ahead with that though, is there anything else you might have missed? Old patches, things of that nature? And just to be sure, you're not trying to run the game without the disc are you? If so there's an easy fix there.
Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:36 am
I have the disc in there, but could it be that the scratches on the disc is affecting it running properly?
Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:38 am
They could be causing some problems. Are you able to try out the disc on another PC?
Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:46 am
Yes. Will do so when they are available.
Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:49 am
I'd definitely give that a shot before anything else.
Sat Apr 18, 2009 6:43 pm
I have another disc at home that I just tried but resulted the same way. I'm thinking it's a hardware or settings problem.
Sat Apr 18, 2009 7:28 pm
have you tried deleting the NBA LIVE 08 folder after you've uninstalled it or maybe, reinstalled in a different directory?
Sat Apr 18, 2009 7:41 pm
I've deleted the files in Program Files as well as My Documents prior to reinstalling the game, but haven't tried installing in another directory. Will give that a shot later.

Are you having similar problems with another NBA Live or any other games?
Sun Apr 19, 2009 2:14 am
I don't have any other games, so I'm not sure.
Thu Apr 30, 2009 12:07 am
Okay, I just tried with another game and the same thing happens. What should I do next?
Thu Apr 30, 2009 10:06 am
Try updating all your drivers, the problem would appear to be in Windows rather than NBA Live itself if the same thing is happening with other games.
Thu Apr 30, 2009 4:35 pm
How would I go about updating the drivers?
