Dirk Opens Up

The Mavericks’ star has a history of being candid in his interviews, so it shouldn’t exactly come as a huge shock that he was brutally honest when recently approached by a German hoops publication.

Nowitzki talked about his career as a Mav......

It's good that he waited till after the trade deadline to say that.

Through it all he's said the right things...for the most part. You don't really want your leader talking about leaving to pursue a championship but he also expressed a desire to achieve that in Dallas and the bottom line is that he's interested in winning, which is what you want of your star player. Kind of funny that he referred the Gasol and Garnett trades as "unfair" though. You can see where he's coming from but technically if a team is willing to give up more for less, then that's their business. The only people they're cheating are themselves.

The Gasol trade was almost unfair. Only almost, because they picked up Marc and got cap relief. It was a piss-poor deal for very limited value though.

The Garnett trade was fine. Boston had all the pieces. Jefferson has become a beast. Guys like Gomes and Telfair have shown flashes of brilliance. They got a couple of late first-rounders to bring solid role players.

Dirk's a classy guy. The Mavs have been privileged to have had him for his entire career, and there's no doubt he'll have his number hung up in the rafters of the AAC (along with Finley, I really hope) and make the Hall of Fame. It's a shame that Dallas probably won't win a championship anytime soon. They should've brought one to Big D with two home games left in the Finals or three years before that, with a double-digit lead in Game 6 of a WCF and Dirk due back for a Game 7...

No question that was one of the most lopsided trades in recent memory but I don't know about it being "unfair", unless he's using the word in a more abstract sense. The Grizzlies' decision to make that deal wasn't really unfair to anyone except perhaps themselves, just rather stupid (or at best, very risky) and very fortunate for the Lakers.

Robert, please stop posting like that.

Try to make a game of it. See how many times in a day you can stop from posting, then try to break that record.

When you post, try not to make it a short youtube-like comment.

Examples of you posting like this that we don't want-

A I love that vid

(Especially after bumping a 3 year old dynasty thread.)
Yeah stupid!

Yeah kinda!

Man this kinda late but I had 100 posts in my first 7 days on tis website
Not something to boast about. It's like saying "Hi! I'm a spammer!"

Examples of your posts that we would like you to post-

I think he should have accepted it but I fell him he tryign to clear some space to land a name like Bosh who's I think from texas or Peirce or Manu

Man but we still have a decent squad but we really need to wn the games we're supposed to like I wanna say we play the bobcats our next game we need to win that ( correct me if wrong)

So relax, enjoy your stay and remember you don't need to post unless you are adding (or attempting to add) something to the conversation.

The Mavericks are a mystery...you'd think any team with Jason Kidd and multiple scoring options [Dirk, J-Ho, Jet] would be a legit contender.

Kidd and Howard are decent defensive players, and Dirk's got the size and frame to be capable of quality inside defense...depends on how a coach decides to run his defensive schemes and in-game strategies really, but those players are capable of putting up decent defenses.

Dirk's been in this league for ten years now and even if he has size and frame, he hasn't shown much improvement at D. He's barely average.

Kidd's got quick hands but he's too slow to keep up with the star PGs in the West. Howard and Terry can defend when they put their minds to it, but often that doesn't happen (Josh would rather jack up mid-range bricks and Jet's lost a step.)
