Is Lamarus Aldridge All-Star Worthy?

Sun Feb 22, 2009 2:21 am

Just want to get your thoughts on whether he should be, has the potential to be or will never be an All-Star player.

I know Brandon Roy and Greg Oden get all the hype in Portland but realistically Oden prime stat is foul out legend in the making. Aldridge has been outstanding the last 2 seasons and continues to increase his outside shooting range. He is currently my favourite player alongside Wade and CP3. I think he is underrated but is starting to get noticed and become a more mainstream known player.

He's probably one of the most underrated players in the league. I got so pissed off when the Raptors didn't select him with the top pick back in 2006, but Bargnani has been proving himself. As for being All-Star worthy, in the future, most definitely. Since the West is packed with elite forwards, people barely realize what Aldridge is capable of. But yeah, there's no doubt he's future All-Star potential.

I'd say that he has the potential to be an All-Star at some point in his career, perhaps not a perennial one but I could see him having a couple of outstanding years in which he gets the nod. Right now though, I wouldn't say that he was snubbed for this year's game.

Yeah I think Aldridge is deffinately up there in terms of talented PFs. Its a pitty he plays in the West, if in the East his All Star chances would be a lot better, I mean Yi almost got in!

yes, he will be on All-Star Game 2010 (hopefully)
and no racism here ArsonMaster ... (N)

Re: Is Lamarus Aldridge All-Star Worthy?

I don't think that's racism

Taken out of context perhaps, but I don't think ArsonMaster was intending to be racist, merely referring to the number of votes Yi Jianlian in particular garnered due to his nationality and subsequent popularity with China's large population of basketball fans.

David West2818.77.3.54312.52.110.525.910818.4

His competition in five years from this group is Jefferson, Milsap and maybe Nene. Other threats currently in the West I think would include:

Carl Landry2515.88.8.62114.21.011.218.312417.8

Trevor Ariza2313.36.9.55610.81.211.816.511616.6

Aldridge's problem is he's the same player he was when he came in the league basically, and made no serious jump from last year to this one (his third!) when his rookie season is also considered. He's stepped way outside since his rookie year. (He took 41% of his shots inside the paint and 67% then, this year he's at a third of his shots and 61%. At least he can shoot jumpers to some extent unlike Jermaine O'Neal but his defense or rebounding isn't even in the same orbit as O'Neal although that beast Pryzbilla probably doesn't help on the latter point.)

Who knows who gets sent West from the Speights, Lee, Bosh, Granger, etc. group? It's kinda surprising how few great SFs are out West. Durant could slide to forward and get in as well. Also assuming nobody slides to/from center, and that Biedrins and Bynum lock that up for the next decade. (And Oden.)
but realistically Oden prime stat is foul out legend in the making.

Realistically, there's also his superb shooting percentage and offensive rebounding, as well as his solid shot blocking. Fouls and turnovers are always elevated for rookies.

Holy sh*t I didn't know you could do that on this forum!!!
anyways to be on topic, the allstar game is nothing but a popularity contest. Many great players get snubbed for the all star game because they have little to none media attention.

Re: Is Lamarus Aldridge All-Star Worthy?

Sun Feb 22, 2009 2:05 pm

Damn, ask me if I love Benji stats.

I doubt it. Although it is quite possible, if his team plays good like NOH and if he gets somewhat similar role of David West who's a second best player in his team. Otherwise, naw but maybe.

Aldridge should crash the board more, he's 6"11 and average only 6.8 boards a game.

Re: Is Lamarus Aldridge All-Star Worthy?

Sun Feb 22, 2009 6:05 pm

yeah I agree he should crash the board more, that way he can be an all-star!

Re: Is Lamarus Aldridge All-Star Worthy?

Mon Feb 23, 2009 5:33 am

he is pretty good but its hard to be too confident on him because he is a mid range shooter and sometimes it seems like it is about time he is going to miss one. Other thing is that he gets low rebounds for his length. but he does a good job at off rebs though.
And he actually has improved since he first came to league. He can now make a running hook, turn around baseline drive and he tries to attack basket more. His rookie year he was basically turn around jumpshooter.

I'll give him 2 years before he gets an all-star game

Seems to depend on where you make a hard return. I'll check the code you gave me, I might have done something silly when I copy/pasted.

Hadn't thought of that. Removed all the line breaks and look at it now. Might have to define a div. I'll try some things.

Shit, if David West could be an All-Star TWICE, and being the second best player on a Blazers team destined for success, I think it is almost a certainty that he will be.

In terms of actual worthiness, not really, but wouldn't need to improve to much to be a worthy fringe all-star.
