Not Shaq & Kobe.... Shaq & LeBron????

Fri Feb 20, 2009 3:27 am

The Cavaliers have offered Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to the Suns for Shaquille O'Neal, according to sources close to Brian Windhorst.

Such a trade works under the salary cap rules but would not, by itself, bring the Suns below the luxury tax threshold this year or next.

The Suns are not going to trade anybody. I'm sure

It's a good trade for the Suns though. They got Shaq to slow other big men, in the process they gave Amar'e less room to work with in the paint. By getting Wallace they can just stick him on opposing bigs and have enough room for Amar'e to do his thing.

It sounds weird though, you'd think Amar'e would strive with opposing defenses collapsing on Shaq and with them not having to worry about Wallace, that Amar'e would face quite a few double-teams.

I bet that was the intention the Suns brough O'neal for. It seems it could work out as Shaq is somewhat getting into his old form and they got a new coach trying to sort things out too.

This sounds like a bad deal for the Suns though. O'neal should bring you more. He's not Jermaine, he's Shaq. I wouldn't trade him for Ben Wallace and Sasha.

I wouldn't trade him either. He is having a good year, he is an allstar. As far as the high octane offense, Shaq can just be the trailer, or utilized when the offense is slowed.

Jackal, I agree with you about Amar'e striving. I guess they aren't collapsing off of Amar'e, but more off the perimeter guys. We both know Shaq can find Amar'e if his defender doubled off of him. Sounds like a simple strategy that should be utilized and it could go both ways with either player getting doubled. Blame Porter,

As much as this move looks good on paper, in my mind this is not. Shaq is playing well now, because the Suns rested him in the first half of the season. If Shaq had to play through another full season averaging 30+ mins he might break down again. It was one good All-star performance, but I don't think Shaq can do it 70-80 games a year anymore. And might end up clogging the Cav's cap room even worst than it is right now. There are times that I really feel sorry for Lebron, having to carry a bunch of bums on the Cav's roster. Hope they can get quality players for Lebron. Ferry just can not seem to get the job done.

Nope, I was not trying to say the entire Cav's roster are a bunch of bums. I was referring to them having accumulated too many bum contracts. Too many overpaid underachieving players like Ben Wallace and Szczerbiak. To some extent I'd throw in Eric Snow in to that mix, until they can get disability off of him. Mo williams, is my second favorite player on the Cavs roster. Delonte West I kinda liked back when he was still in Boston, but I'm sure he'd make just as great a back-up combo guard on any other team. Big-Z, I'm iffy about Ferry extending him though, I always figured Ferry could have done better by doing a sign and trade for Z, especially that he is so injury prone.

and lastly, I dislike hearing the eff word. I prefer saying fuck out loud, because it sounds more manly.

Cavs are not the only team with bad contracts though. The roster seems decent enough regardless of underachievers. Actually Lebron and couple others well made up for it. Their record proves it. As for Wally, it's a soon to be expired contract that Cavs took over, so no biggie.

It would've been a bit of an awkward situation with Ilgauskas still around, that's not a twin tower combination that would work particularly well in my view but it could've been a move that put the Cavs over the top the way Shaq has been playing this year.
