For the love of....Turn the bleep around!

This is the biggest complaint I have in this game:


The damned players seem to be facing the wrong direction all the time.

1) On offense - the player will never face the other basket. For instance, a PG dribbling off a pick will always face his own basket (unless you use the turbo button or are posting up). Try it in practice mode - you'll never be able to face the other basket without turbo. They look totally ridiculous dribbling backwards.


2) The stupid players turn around completely on fast breaks and STOP RUNNING, thus eliminating almost all wide open breaks.

3) The players always keep their backs to their defenders whenever they pressure the ball. Now, I've read that I can fix this by turning down the on ball defense slider. I have it at 0 and it still bothers me. Kinda hard to beat a guy off the dribble if you have your back to him.

I fast break all the time successfully. Here's how. Don't do those long-bomb passes. Players normally only turn around if you chuck it off the screen towards them when you throw long passes ahead. Instead, make short passes thru diff players in the backcourt that are also running until you hit the furthest player on the break and he won't turn around.

I've tried. Are you sure short passes help? The worse case was when I had a 2 on 1 and I passed to D. Christie 3 feet ahead (and to the right) from me and the idiot turned completely around. Upset me so much I quit the game.

I'm trying to give this game a fair shake - I can't imagine waiting an entire year for Live 2005. I've played at least 500 games each year with each version. Such fond memories...

Hmm..that's kinda weird.
I've never had players turn around if you throw short passes while running a break correctly. Keep in mind you should pick and choose your spots when to fastbreak and when not to. Sometimes, the cpu gets back quite quickly and sometimes your players just stop running depending on whether a few of the cpu's defenders are set.

i think live 2004 will end up as 1 of the best in the series b/c of the challenge.. i mean.. i think many of us will be easily winning superstar games if we never screw up our fastbreaks

the fastbreaks take skill b/c u can't throw it too far on your passes..

until live 2005 or 2006? comes out, live is the best so far. Although the game is still the best in the series and there are many good qualities about it, there are so many annoyances about it, like how the defences react WAY too quickly when they double team another guy and get back on the other ball carrier, or how the comp can run like a crazy mofo to get back when you're on the fast break, and you can't run nearly as fast even holding the turbo. THe lack of a mid-range game, the dynasty mode is good but still quite thin both interface-wise and game wise.

neways, fastbreaks take skill, yes, but the passing is still too accurate, especially when they throw long passes. Sometimes players are too slow on the user team and can go so fast on the CPU.

all fastbreak problems can be solved if you:

1.) When inbounding, pass to your PG or SG.

2.) @ about 3/4 court use L2 for pass to the man closest to the basket (he will turn around if you use Icon passing, he wont turn around if you used the fastbreak button L2)

3.) Score!

learning when and when not to use L2 will make a big difference in the fast break. Most of all, icon passing causes the player to turn around.
