Another Smackdown title change? A Triple H reign at that.

Re: WWE Thread

Mon Feb 16, 2009 7:02 pm

Not the outcome I would've liked, especially Edge winning the WHC. I'm really getting bored of Edge as champ and racking up these reigns, that makes eight major championship reigns in the last three years. How does this raise the prestige of the belts? Unless he's going to RAW, that means they'll probably need to do an angle to get the belt back on RAW which means another short reign. I'm just not a fan of that kind of booking in the main event.

HHH winning the title...well, it was inevitable, the dirt sheets had reported him as pushing to be in the title picture one way or another, so hooray for political stroke I guess. In all fairness he's a credible champion to say the very least and more than capable of running with the ball but I don't know why Cena's Superman booking is scorned and HHH's is given a free pass. Honestly, I'd rather have had Edge retain the WWE title if he's going into Wrestlemania as a champion instead of padding out the championship reigns and Orton sneak his way into the Elimination Chamber.

Interesting to see how the title picture will shape up as we head towards Wrestlemania. Surely they wouldn't do heel vs heel with Orton/Edge.

game wins. how lame.
the biggest man did most of the bumping. yeah, that makes sense.

orton vs mcmahon would be an awesome match if shane was a wrestler.

finley's gay.

the emancipation of shawn micheals? hahaha.
his beard is a milf though.

know what really looks stupid? besides dwayne wade dressed up like the gay love child of steve urkel and
nelly. when a wrestler sells the first leg kick he receives as though it was the 10th kick. watch the ufc.
usually the first 5 are taken without blinking.unless it's anthony hardonk kicking you in the leg.
the point is in the wwe big men sell and bump too much.

woooohooooooo. cena's out.

edge saved the ppv.

OK I got my HHH pick right.
I know this souns stupid, but about the Edge win all I have to say that there's gotta be some rules.
I mean yeah sure they can do whatever they want and it's because of the unexpected things we watch it, but seriously, why do the the brands have that infamous position of a General Manager?
I mean if this was all real, and of course we're supposed to think it is, then why can everyone, who takes out another competitor, join the match?
Don't get me wrong, I love the surprises and I'm glad that Cena didn't retain, but to let Edge into that match with no official doing anything - it just feels weird, feels like a fixed thing from the beginning (and it shouldn't look that way, right? ) sorry that's my opinion.

Well yeah, rant aside, I'm tired of Edge as a Champion as well, the good thing is that Cena lost it though. On the Smackdown side, 4 PPVs - 4 title changes, I guess Triple H will get all the Superman bookings now.

Wrestlemania's going to be interesting. Maybe they do a Orton/HHH angle to get the WWE Chip back on RAW which would make HHH lose it really fast again though.
Probably just a Triple Threat between Cena/Orton/Edge.

I know exactly what you mean. To watch professional wrestling you have to suspend your disbelief at the best of times but sometimes angles take really contrived twists and turns. It's kind of like when faces get arrested for assault or something but then heels do something ten times worse and they get away with it...I suppose it's one of those things you're not meant to think about but when you try to bring that kind of reality into the wrestling world there's tends to be inconsistencies like that. Similarly, the McMahon/Orton angle; it seems the McMahons are only all powerful when they're playing the cold hearted heels. Again, one of those things we're not supposed to think about but you can only suspend disbelief for so long before you at least start to think the story is getting a bit silly, even by professional wrestling standards.

Looks like HHH is headed back to RAW though and it'll be Taker/HBK or Taker/JBL (hopefully Taker/HBK) at Wrestlemania.

But you see, when people are bad, Satan helps them out and makes them more powerful and they can rape, assault and do everything they want on worldwide TV every week and get away with it.

Re: WWE Thread

That Edge stuff was pretty lame. But same as buzzy, glad that Cena lost it. Wonder who Orton goes to. Maybe a brand switch to Smackdown?

EDIT: If Triple H do stay on the blue brand.

Haven't watched RAW yet, but it's said that HHH is heading back to RAW. He was only drafted to SmackDown to improve their ratings with the new channel. So probably Triple H/Orton at Wrestlemania which means another WWE title change in my books. But hey, it's Triple H, so you never know.

Re: WWE Thread

They're doing another Draft after Wrestlemania which would be as good an opportunity as any to make any brand switches permanent.

Holy shit, those last few minutes of Raw were pretty cool. HHH shaking with anger, foaming in the mouth and Orton getting that sad sorry look. His acting's really improved. At least on a few bright spots.

Re: WWE Thread

He's still a bit robotic at times but there's enough arrogance in his promos to sell his character and he's quite masterful with his psychotic expressions too. No question he's way over.

I guess that it will be Orton vs. Triple H at WrestleMania, Orton could possibly win it back to Raw so that Triple H will be staying at SmackDown.

Here's an old-school video:

Lean my man, thank you, thank you for posting that video. I've been trying to watch the WWE lately and honestly, I couldn't understand what I saw in wrestling when I was a kid. Watching that video and seeing a good, quick, not drawn out match, just, thank you.

Re: WWE Thread

Ahh Triple H before the steroids. That brings back memories. Hunter Hearst Helmsley was one of favorite "minor" characters then with his breeding and fancy music, so classy.
I love how he dusts himself off of such peasants after the victory.

Re: WWE Thread

Honestly, what drew me back to wrestling during the Attitude era was seeing a commercial with Sables tits with only those hand shaped whatever-it-was covering them. At that time, my only memory of watching wrestling was the classics when I was a little kid when I barely remembered anything except enjoying battle royales and calling every one of them as royal rumbles.

Always fun to go back and watch "before they were stars" footage like that, be it basketball, wrestling or whatever. I actually picked up the Edge boxset recently since I had a gift card to use and amongst the special features is a dark match from 1997 featuring Edge (simply billed as Adam Copeland) facing off against Christian about a year before they made their on-camera debut.

Re: WWE Thread

I think Jeff was only 19 on that video, according to the YouTube URL I got it from. Jobbing around to the old-school Hunter.

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 24, 2009 9:05 pm

I'd say so, Vince McMahon was doing commentary on RAW so it can't have been any later than 1997, making him at least 19 or 20 at the oldest.

Re: WWE Thread

Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:50 pm

Guess they changed their mind about Big Show turning on Edge. The brand split is pretty much non-existent with Vickie Guerrero assuming GM duties on RAW too. The thought occurs that if HHH is going to be part of the McMahon family on screen as well as in real life, his character actually wields supreme power right now but I suppose that would complicate things somewhat.

What's with Cena's new handsign? He rid off the old Word Life too?

Yeah, I saw it and it's the same as the Dudleys' handsign.
