Quite baffling that any woman would still want to be with a man low enough to do such a thing but unfortunately a lot of women do stay in abusive relationships.

Not to be a jerk, but with the way she's going back again with Chris Brown, I think she deserves to be beaten up.
Most women who stay in abusive relationships have no way to support themselves so they cling to the guy even if he is a violent asshole. I can't think of any reason why Rihanna would get back with someone who beat her up like that. Chris Brown must really be packing some thunder in his pants.

I definitely see where you're coming from and it does seem incredibly stupid but there are probably more complex emotional/psychological factors at work in situations like that where women keep returning to or staying with abusive partners, probably because they continue to feel some affection for them which clouds their better judgment or perhaps they have some self-esteem issues. A sad state of affairs but there's only so much the law can reasonably do; it may be used to prosecute someone when they commit an act of violence like this but it's someone's choice to stay with an abusive partner and forgive them for what they do, so unless they see the light or get past whatever issues they might have they'll keep going back to that person and the chain of abuse may never be broken.
