Something along the lines of Tyrus not minding losing the dunk contest because he got paid anyway.

Yeah he said he was just going to get his check and call it a day.

Ty Thomas just annoyed people because he told them the truth, an easy $10,000 for just doing nothing but dunking....
Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:30 am
Nobody wants the truth to be slapped to their face.
Most of us here know NBA superstars earning about $15,000,000 for 8 months of work (Training camp to NBA Finals) yet we still watch the games and cheer for our favorite players.
Stop being reminding us X on how much they get paid just to play a game. Hasshole.

True, but it's a good example of honesty not necessarily being the best policy.

Dont know where the NBA dunk contest thread went, so this'll do. Rudy Gay is out of the dunk contest and is being replaced by J.R. Smith.

We need Chris "Birdman" Andersen back again.

Smith was robbed on that dunk. Getting marked down for not making the dunk first try and eliminating the element of surprise isn't completely unreasonable per se but there's nothing in the rules about that, players aren't supposed to be marked down for using a replacement. I guess it comes down to how the judges feel about replacements, since they don't have to comment on or openly "justify" their scores, but considering it's the first time someone pulled that off in the NBA contest, 45 felt too low.

hell yeah, my man J.R. gonna win this year's dunk contest! he will be awesome, i'm sure!

Oh, come on, Howard's first dunk was NOT a 10 point dunk.
And Robinson's wan't that good either. I think he gets good scores because of his size

Agreed. Missed the Smith's and Nate's first dunks, what did they do?
IMO, this year sucks, so far.

This Slam Dunk contest has been pretty weak so far. J.R. and Fernandez failed on their dunks, Nate's second dunk was pretty weak. Dwight Howard gets 50s over little gimmicks instead of the actual dunks. But LEBRON SAID HES GOING TO BE IN THE SLAM DUNK CONTEST NEXT YEAR!!
Go Dallas!!!

Hell yeah!
@ Dwight's phone booth. And great Nate dunk over Superman.

Nate cleared D12... Not perfectly cleared, but it was a nice dunk.
Sun Feb 15, 2009 1:59 pm
Nate just won the competition
Sun Feb 15, 2009 2:01 pm
Nate Robinson has won it!

I liked last year's contest better though. And I like both Howard and Robinson...both are great entertainers and funny.
A dunk from three-point line? "This is not EA Sports"..."or 2ksports"... LOL Quotation of the year.

Dwight Coward's first 2 dunks were bullshit. 9's, not 10's. Thankfully, justice was served in the final round when Nate finally won the Slam Dunk contest deservedly, thanks in part to my 16 votes for him. Disappointing contest overall though.
Sun Feb 15, 2009 2:06 pm
Some pretty questionable judging in the first round, Dwight's first dunk was a pretty soft 50 and while the 12 foot dunk was nice, I thought the Superman gimmick continuing with the phone booth was more lame than anything else. I prefer it when they get creative with the dunks themselves, the gimmicks and props are starting to get overused. I also thought Fernandez was robbed on his second dunk, no doubt the result of having to use one of the final replacements after the two minute limit expired. Nate's first dunk was scored a bit high too considering JR Smith essentially did the same dunk to open the contest. There's a higher degree of difficulty with his height of course but then that actually gives him too much of an advantage since everything he does is scored higher by default.
Finals was pretty good, but then what's the point of it when the fan voting opens before they've even attempted their two final dunks? I think it should just be down to the judges there in the building, or at the very least don't open the fan voting until all dunks have been attempted. Still a fun contest, some memorable dunks but the judging was a bit off and the gimmicks are getting to be a bit much.

Plus you could vote as many times as you wanted, I voted a least 15 times for Nate
