the suspension will take effect immediately and will extend through the team’s December 17th contest against the Indiana Pacers.

that means hes suspended during his recovery time...pointless

Makes sense actually. Ellis will be able to rejoin the team shortly after his rehabilitation but his suspension means he won't get paid for about 3 months - costing him something like $3 million. Hopefully that (along with all the embarrassment he had to endure over the past few weeks) will teach him a lesson in responsibility.

It's not pointless, considering the length of the suspension it's a smart move. Otherwise, they'd be holding him out for 30 games on top of the time he's set to miss due to the injury. He'll be losing pay so even though he'd be missing the games anyway, he won't have the benefit of being paid to sit on the bench.

As for the number of games, it's pretty steep but I guess the Warriors want to make a point here and he did break the rules so he should suffer the consequences. In the normal case such a suspension would be cutting their nose off to spite their face, so I wonder if they would have chosen to suspend him 30 games if he wasn't going to miss a significant amount of time already.

it makes sense.. he did break a rule making him unavailable for the the length of the suspension and more, so not paying him while he is recovering from breaking the rule makes logical sense.

I'm confused about how riding a moped is dangerous?

Ask Monta Ellis.

Similar dangers to riding a motorcycle, as Ellis' injury demonstrates.

Warriors' Ellis May Appeal 30-Game Suspension
Jeff Fried, the agent for suspended Golden State guard Monta Ellis, hinted on Sunday night that his client will appeal a 30-game suspension that could cost him $3 million, according to a report by USA Today.

"We've previously evaluated Monta's options, and now that the team has taken a definitive position we will move aggressively in protecting Monta's rights," Fried said.

I guess I'd be inclined to appeal if I was in his position though but "protecting his rights"? He violated the terms of his contract and lied to the team about the nature of his injury, grounds for voiding his new contract. Obviously the Warriors weren't going to do that but they certainly could have if they wished.

Something tells me that his agent is the actual douche for the cover-up.

The suspension serves him right, he shouldnt have lied about the real reason he got injured..

If so, perhaps he should compare notes with Raymond Brothers.

Warriors Retain Right To Void Ellis' Contract

It's highly unlikely but the threat of it might keep Ellis in line. That's not to demonise Ellis as he's young and made a mistake (particularly in lying to the Warriors about the nature of his injury) but hopefully he realises the seriousness of the situation and justifies the Warriors' investment in him, both on and off the court.

Looks like his back, this is good news for my fantasy team(finally):

Monta Ellis will make his 2008-09 debut on Friday night when the Warriors host the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to KNBR.

Ellis injured his ankle in a moped accident shortly after signing a multi-year contract extension.

Supposedly the friction between Ellis and the Warriors was overblown too, which is good news for their fans. They've still got a ridiculous amount of guards though.

Monta Ellis is going to be playing tonight...

Who's excited on seeing this?

**crickets chirping**

Anybody???

**crickets chirping & wolves howling in unison**

Seriously, I just want to see how the Golden State fans react on the appearance of Monta Ellis coming out finally. I know some of them are not going to be too pleased, and I want to see how his morale plays off if I see signs that he needs to be traded. If he's unhappy still... He needs to be traded.

Supposedly that was overblown but that could be just damage control. This year is pretty much lost for the Warriors anyway. It'll be interesting to see if they continue stockpiling point guards and swingmen, the glut is just ridiculous.

Not bad for his opening return back on the court. Corey Maggette may be playing 6th man.
