Andrew Bynum Injures Knee

Sun Feb 01, 2009 1:44 pm

Lakers’ Bynum leaves game with knee injury

At this point it's being listed as a sprain, x-rays were negative and further tests are forthcoming. Not what the Lakers were hoping for after what happened last year to say the very least but he hasn't been written off for the season yet so it may just be a bump in the road. It certainly didn't stop them from wiping the floor with the Grizzlies in the second half though.

I cringed when I read this in my inbox just then. :( I hope it's nothing too serious.

For some reason it seems like Karma to me.

He injures Gerald... So instead of a suspension, he gets injured himself.

That's one way of looking at it I guess. It does raise concerns about the longterm health of his knee though the risk of freak accidents will always be there in sports, at some point it goes beyond a player being durable or not.

Meh, just when he starts playing so damn well, he's down yet again. Sad for the Lakers, but they'll do just fine if he needs to miss a lot of games.

Well, here's hoping he doesn't carry two bum knees into his new contract. :(

Wait, he injured both his knees already? I thought it was the same knee he got hurt last year.

An update: Lakers C Bynum suffers right knee sprain

Head coach Phil Jackson called the injury “a great disappointment.”

“Everyone knows we’re probably going to have to go on for a quite a while without him,” Jackson said.

That doesn't sound encouraging.

Last year's January, his left knee got injured and this year's January, his right knee got injured.

Also, I noticed that he got injured by his teammates. Odom injured him last year and now Kobe.

Edit: Both injuries happened while versing Memphis Grizzlies.

I hope that he can return this year. I'm not a Lakers fan nor do I have any intention of bandwagoning them but as I've said before, as a fan of the game I want to see teams competing at full strength and you hate to see anyone suffer serious injuries.

do you think that the lakers needs to trade and get another big man if bynum is out for a long time

Re: Andrew Bynum Injures Knee

Not desperately, at least not at this stage. Last year they outdueled everyone else in the West to take the top seed, made the NBA Finals and came within a couple of games of the championship without him, their chances are still very good without him. The question is, who would they trade if they wanted to do that? At some point he'll be back and there won't be the minutes to go around, plus they'll have given up another key player in the rotation to bring in a replacement they no longer need. Maybe they could make a smaller deal, call someone up from the D-League etc so they have more depth at centre in case Bynum is out for a prolonged period of time but they have enough talent at the forward spots to move Gasol over to centre for the interim.

what about Lakers trade away Lamar Odom for Min Al Jefferson

points per game for Lamar Odom is only 9.4

Now Al

Jerrersons points per game is
22.9

what about moving Pau Gasol to center and put Al Jefferson at PF

what am thinking is would this trade not work becuse of a camp issue for both teams Lakers and Minn

Odom is coming off the bench in case you haven't noticed...nearly 10 ppg in around 20 minutes is decent, and he does things other then scoring...Al Jefferson cant play any position on the floor like Odom can :P

This will never happen, NEVER.

Al Jefferson will probably be the franchise's future. While Odom is a great player, he isn't a franchise player.

That's probably unlikely to happen because the Bulls are about to trade Aaron Gray for Al Jefferson.

Last year they outdueled everyone else in the West to take the top seed, made the NBA Finals and came within a couple of games of the championship without him, their chances are still very good without him.

This is true, but this is also where the loss of Ronny Turiaf hurts a lot. He was able to ease a lot of the burden on Gasol and Odom in the playoffs and regular season. Who can do the same this year? DJ Mbenga?

You think of some pretty lopsided trades.

Mihm for Love ain't happening. Love is playing solidly this season and he still has lots of room to grow.

And the reason Odom is only getting 1o points is he isn't playing that much anymore. He's coming off the bench, remember?

MIhm for Love?

Why not Luke Walton for LeBron?

just some of my suggestions for trades and yea i know Odom is coming off the bench
hopefuly bynum injure is not bad and that he can some back shortly and get the lakers to the nba finals and win it all

Re: Andrew Bynum Injures Knee

Mon Feb 02, 2009 2:45 pm

Without Bynum I think they'll move Odom to a starting spot, then give more minutes to Powell. Powell looks solid for a second unit/12th man kind of player. It would be sweet if the Lakers could pull off another robbery via trade again this season, but there just isn't that much interest for Walton, Radmanovic or Odom to get a decent trade.

odom will start and play pf pau gasol will play center

Re: Andrew Bynum Injures Knee

I think Odom will still be off the bench as he is more effective as a sixth man (just like manu and rip)
Probably, the best scenario would have been starting Chris Mihm at the center and let Pau stays at 4.. isn't it?
