My 1st Anniversary at NLSC

Tue Jan 27, 2009 12:35 pm

Hi everyone,

Today marks the date that I first joined NLSC one year ago. I cant say enough good things about this place, and I've always feel comfortable browsing around. Not one day have I feel unwelcomed or uncomfortable here, although I cant deny that there are both good moments and not so good one.

Although I've been playing NBA Live since Live 05, it wasn't until today last year that I found out about NLSC. I was sort of pissed off with how terrible Live 08 was so I googled for patches just for fun. I wasn't expecting any particular results since I have absolutely no knowledges about patching at that time. However, the site that showed up was NLSC, and I clicked in with full interest. The contents of this site got me thrilled and excited, and I have been cursed by the magic here since then.

I started off as a regular visitor who mess around each day to find new patches. Because I am a big Rockets fan and Carl Landry & Luis Scola was emerging last year, I was eager to find and download their cyberfaces. I made requests to both famous and infamous patchers, hoping to get my request granted by them. Unfortunately, the only answer I recieved is that someone made them already. That didn't satisfy me as their cyberfaces that "have been made already" was nowhere close to what I have been expecting to see. True, I set high expectations but I know for a fact what the patchers here are capable of. That spark something in my mind, failing to find a cyberfaces that satisfy my need, the thought of making them myself came to my mind. The first cyberface that I made was Carl Landry, which wasn't very good itself. I got massive help from fellow patchers at that time and all of them have helped me progress. After a big while I began to get better and some people said they now consider me as one of the best. I never believe in what they said but those kind words still made me happy. They gave me the motivation to carry on. To me, only the fans can judge how good I am. I will never compliment myself since there's always room for improvement. If you ask me, I think I'm known for my dedication to all the little details and accuracy in textures and alignments. I continued to patch CF but soon something else caught my interest. I've always been interested in animations patching and I've been requesting WebberF1 (who was famous at patching sigshots back then) for Mike James and Luther Head sigshot for quite sometimes. He never replied, and my hope went down the ground. As time passed by, I was blessed by Clydeli who was more than happy to teach me animations patching. My first goal was to create a sigshot for all the first round rookies. (Rookies were the centre of attention back then) I soon completed that goal in less than three weeks and now people also know me as another type of patcher. I went on to create & improve many players' sigshots that I felt need improving, and my second release was very successful. I was surprised and shocked by the number of downloads I got on FileFront. (it's http://hosted.filefront.com/modifly by the way ;)) I never gave up cyberface patching however, and my next big project was to update the entire Houston Rockets rosters.

This project took longer than I expected since it was interfered by schoolwork and many other things. I completed it not so long ago and it didn't caught as much attention as I was expecting since Live 08 was starting to die out at that time. McGrady was the star of that patch of course, and I was really satisfied with all the outcome. My other "big" patch was Mr. MVP Kobe Bryant and it gained a lot of interest since Live 08 was also at the peak at that point.

One full year here means custom title and I will contribute it to my mom. She passed away two days ago battling cancer for the past 4 years. Me and my family can take it fully since we knew she's leaving us that day and so we had a really good time together and we talked things through and everything. She's happy now in heaven and she no longer have to fight the pain that she's been dealing with.

My future patching plan is still a big blur. I have 2K9 on my desktop and I'm playing it regularly, but I have no idea when I'll share the patch that I made. (You know it's definitely a Rockets CF.) Some close fans of mine has been pesting me to start patching 2K9 seriously like I did for Live 08 but the answer I gave them is "we'll see". I still love to patch and will always do, but now there are many important things in life and my main focus right now is to do the best for mom.

Enough said, I'm going to enjoy today as my first anniversary here at NLSC, I love this place, and I'm sure you all do too. I love the admins here and I'm not saying it to get in good graces either. I seriously admire them all and as one of the lolcats here said "I are serious cat, this is serious thread." That cat still disturb me everytime I see it and damn it, I love cats.

I'm going to leave it here, and wow, thinking back, what a wonderful place this is. NLSC is my second, well third since school is the second, home for me. Not only did it provide me with many new friends and valuable experiences, it also made me more mature and become a better person. My English also improved vastly and I have a lot of opportunities to improve it even further. The community has given me more than enough, and I will always give the community something as long as I can still type or until my computer get confiscated.

Congratulations, Modifly! It's great to have you around and I'm glad that you've enjoyed your time here and are looking forward to more good times ahead. We've had some tough times over the last couple of years because we'd reached capacity on our old host and every fix and workaround attempt wasn't getting the job done long term. We also had some teething problems when we came to the new server last October but we should be past it now and I really appreciate people like yourself who are so supportive of the site and the community at large. I hope you'll be around for a while yet. :)

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother, my heartfelt condolences. One of my close friend's father passed away last week after battling cancer for about the same length of time and while it was a very difficult week and remains a tough time for my friend and his family, there is also the comforting thought that they are no longer in pain and at peace. Those last couple of weeks can be such a terrible experience, I'm glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed some quality time with your mother and made the most of it. My thoughts are with you; be strong, be there for each other and remember the good times fondly.

Congratulations again! And since you mentioned serious cat, I'll bite the bullet.

Still creeps me out too.

Thanks a bunch Andrew, I still insists that you're the best admin around the internet. Serious as a cat, I dont think there's such admin like you anymore. (Y) I'm really looking forward to more excellent time here at NLSC, and I'm sure that the forum is through with all the rough time now. The changes that have been made are all to make this a better place isn't it? Whether it's upgrading to a newer phpbb system or moving to a new server, the only intention is to make this an even better place and I thank you on behalf of everyone here. ;)

When I first registered here, it felt like a marriage. Once you're in you cant escape. Seriously speaking though, I'm pretty sure that I'll be around for a long, long time.

Thanks for all the kind words regarding my mother as well, and I've read what you posted about your friend's father earlier. My deepest condolences to him too and I'm certain that it is a difficult time for everyone in that kind of situation, including myself, although it will be a whole lot easier if they get the opportunity to spend quality times and share quality thoughts in the last moment of his/her life like I did with my mother. Thank you for everything, your thoughts are definitely with me, I will stay strong, and will remember all the good times fondly. :D

And boy does that cat revolutionized the whole NLSC lolcats history. I love cats big time, but that cat is another story. By the way, do you know if that cat was manipulated somehow? If it is purely non-fictional, then I guess I'm having nightmares tonight.

Props to icanhascheezburger.

Thanks Modifly, I appreciate the kind words. I certainly like to be "hands on" when it comes to the site and at the end of the day I'm just a huge fan of basketball, video games and a long time NBA Live player, so the hobby suits me well. :)

I also like cats and prefer them to dogs but there's something about serious cat. I think it's because there's almost a human quality to the face, I find that a bit disturbing on a cat. It's probably not altered in any way so yeah, nightmares will follow. ;)

JaoSming, thanks JaoSming, dont worry, read them any time you want man. I tend to leave long posts and read them later when I have time as well. ;)

Andrew, ah.. you're quite right. The fact that it has human quality on the face is really disturbing. That's just wrong for a cat. :shake:

T-Time3, thanks bro, I'm extremely glad to hear that most of my patches are in your sgsm folder. Thanks a bunch. :D I'll resume patching when the funeral is over and when I have enough time. I still got something in mind about Live 08. ;) And last but not least... Houston Rockets FTW!!!

thanks Doobie, we cross paths very few times indeed but I'm sure that it will happen more often from now on. ;) You're a nice guy to me too, and I always give everybody the benefit of the doubt until they make me think otherwise. :P I've always read your post and I can sense the friendliness in it. I look forward to "cross paths" with you more often soon. :D

you're quite right Glen, thanks for your kindness and I have to say that you're one of the biggest reason behind my success. Not only have you been my inspiration, you have somewhat always been a guideline for me. Both patching wise and personality wise. Thanks. :D
