DRAFT DAY
June 27, 2009
*beep* *beep*
"What's this?" Daryl Morey, flips out his mobile phone, Meet me in your office at 3pm, sent by coach of the Houston Rockets, Rick Adelman.
30 minutes later.......
"Hey! What's going on Daryl!" screams out the office cleaner.
"Damn man, you scared the hell out of me!" "Just doing my job, is all." the cleaner replies.
"Get out of here! I have an important meeting!" The cleaner nods and walks out.
"Phew! Freakin cleaners!"
Rick Adelman finally meets him in the office.
"Hey Daryl, I wanted to talk about our choice for the #2 pick of the draft, we traded a aging Steve Francis and our 1st and 2nd round picks to Memphis, so this better be good." Daryl then added "I found a page of the players I'm really interested in. Just give me a moment to find it on the computer." *click* "DAMN computers, takes up so long just to find a file. FOUND IT!" Daryl opens up file "NBA draft prospects."
INSIDE THE FILE ARE THE FOLLOWING CONTENTS.
What we need:
A good, reliable backup PF.
Someone to support Yao Ming.
A shooting guard to support Von Wafer, once T-Mac retires.
Top 5 Draft Prospects:
#1
A. Giminez
PF
224lbs
25 years old
6'9''
Alcorn St
A. Giminez, a power forward from the small school of Alcorn St, is a talented player with great potential to be a hall of famer.
Though he is quite old for a rookie, Giminez has averaged around 25pts, 13rebs and 4 blocks. This guy is a talented player, one for the ages, and should be definitely worth a look. Is quite injury-prone with his back spasms, but a recent operation, has helped him to develop. Often compared to Kevin Garnett, for his energy and dedication to the game.
#2
R. Alan
SG
220lbs
23 years old
6'2''
Fresno St
R. Alan, a shooting guard from Fresno St, is definitely a Top 2 contender, so people will watch out for him at the start of the draft. Though quite small for a SG, he has a solid dunk and definitely has some hops. His problems however are that he is slow to react and is a person to trust to shoot a buzzer-beater, as he missed a game-tying shot against Kentucky in an exhibition match. He is compared to Vince Carter, for his ferocious and rim-rattling dunks.
#3
E. Pastor
PG
185lbs
23 years old
6'1''
Nevada
E. Pastor, a small, athletic point guard from Nevada. Who has great passing skills, high vertical leap and is a very consistent shooter, though he doesn't have alot of stamina. He has the passing skills of Jason Kidd, the hops of Nate Robinson and the shooting skills of Ray Allen, this guy could be picked #1, if the 76er's need to replace Andre Miller, but at this point, it seems highly unlikely.
#4
N. Abdul Hakim
PF
237lbs
24 years old
6'9''
Nigeria
N. Abdul Hakim, a Nigerian import who plays strongly at the power forward position, was in the Euroleague, before being highly recommended for scouts in the NBA. He is a very solid 89% free throw shooter and will adapt quickly to the NBA.
His only problem however, is he lacks athleticism, and most of the time he will only be able to play 20-25 minute games due to his short stamina. He is compared to Hakeem Olajuwon for his solid moves in the paint and his shooting skills.
#5
L. Cunningham
SF
242lbs
24 years old
6'6''
Portland
L. Cunningham, a small forward from Portland, who is 24 years old at only 6'6'' for a small forward. Though he is quite overweight for his size, he has to ability to use his body for post moves against shooting guards and small forwards.
He lacks quickness, and the ability to play crunch minutes. Highly likely that Portland will pick him up with the #3 draft pick, due to him being a fan-favourite at Portland College. Often compared to Oliver Miller, for the ability to use overweight frame to help him win ball games.
"I know who to pick now." says Adelman
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Morey says.
"Yepp."
