Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

LOL this bug is very funy..
Somehow frames per second your card can render affect the shot..
I go to practice mode with kobe (ultra high 1600x1200). My FPS is ~420 and kobe cant even hit the rim with perfect release..
Then I go to settings menu and turn v-sync so that it limits my FPS to 60 and everything is normal again,,
That could mean that you guys that play it at a lower fps than 60 are not playing the same game as others

That's quite a nice theory, I wonder if anybody can shed some light on it.

I support that theory. I practiced with all video settings ultra high/high and low and went from 220 fps to 75 fps respectfully and noticed quite a few more airballs at 220 fps.

I want to think I heard this over at OS, but I am not completely sure.
Get the latest Nvidia drivers, goto nvidia's control panel and enable the physX option
Of course this is only if you have an nvidia card

I still have that problem too. I tried a game of 21 last night and 2 out of the 3 players were only shooting air balls for the free throw (including myself), and the other player was always hitting the rim, but never scoring. I gave up after 20 attempts...
There's definitely something wrong with the practice modes...

i know now whats the problem behind this i tried the game and record with fraps and i found out that the fps that i was gettings was 145+ which is a bit too fast so i deleted all my settings and set the v-sync on then started the game and after that the fps went back to normal again it became 75fps and the airball bug is now gone

If most of your shots are air balls and you have an Nvidia G8 or higher card, try this:
Go to Nvidia Control Panel > 3D Settings > Set PhysX configuration > Enable

Already done, mine's always been enabled. I think Kris hit the nail right on the head.
