Please with his STANtastic performance Stan deserves to be an All-Star. Simon says I'm gonna be the Rookie Game MVP.

Solid month for the Nuggets, nice to see Simon take home Rookie of the Month honours and contributing in his inaugural campaign. Once again, you're well-represented at the All-Star Weekend. (Y)

It was really frustrating, considering I hit a really clutch shot before that instance.

The All-Star Weekend is set to be a fun one :)

Good to know I'm not alone. I try to figure out ways to evade the CPU, but it's almost impossible. They seem to do it with ease though.

Axel. wrote:Always satisfying to see you crush the Lakers. (Y) It's been a while since I played Live 10, but I do remember how easily the CPU was able to evade the intentional foul, while the user can't take one dribble before the CPU has its arms around the ball-handler. It's OK though, free throws were easy money for me in Live 10, so the CPU was only digging its own grave by fouling me. :proud:

Nice to see Denver well-represented in the ASG and RS game. Amory Emery.

I like taking out a bit of my real life frustration on the Virtual Lakers (dammit, the Nuggets had that series!). I'm hoping it's something they'll improve with NBA Live 13, since it's probably the game I'll be buying. 2K is great, but I have a nostalgic loyalty towards EA (NBA Live 98, 06, 08 and 10, as well as several NHL titles, FIFA 97 and so on).

Seeing Amory Emery and the name Dorgan appear twice were definitely facepalm moments.

I agree, he's been an inSTANt hit.

And we'll see if Simon is right :)

Good to have you back. :)

There are only 4 players left. 2 of them are on my team (Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose), while Kevin Durant (San Antonio) and Russell Westbrook (New Orleans) are still hanging in there too. Season 16 may be the last one before generated playes completely take over.

All-Star Weekend: The Rookie Challenge

Rookies Upset Sophomores Again

Image

The Rookies, who were led by the two Jims from Denver, posted a 78-70 win over the Sophomores in the Rookie Challenge. James Palmer was the surprise MVP of the game, controlling the Rookies' offense with 26 points and 17 assists. His partner in crime Jim Simon also had an outstanding night with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Utah's Amory Emery was the only other double digit scorer for the Rookies, with 13 points.

It was a night dominated by Denver prospects, as Stan Griffiths led the Sophomores in both points (14) and rebounds (11). There were 3 other double figure scorers for the second year players, but none of them made as big of an impact as the Nuggets two rookies. Emmanuel Carlos from the Grizzlies scored 11, while Maxwell Hall (San Antonio) and Augustus Travis (Miami) both had 10 points and 5 assists each.

----------------

Rookie Challenge

Rookies 78 (Palmer 26, Simon 22, Emery 13)
Sophomores 70 (Griffiths 14, Carlos 11, Hall 10)

Rebounds

Rookies: White 12
Sophomores: Griffiths 11

Assists

Rookies: Palmer 17
Sophomores: Hall, Travis 5

With many expecting either Stan Griffiths or Jim Simon to take home the MVP trophy, it was the lesser known Nuggets point guard that had the best night. Not only was he showing off some sharp shooting skills... but also some post moves:

In a wing dominated league, perhaps James can teach the centres and power forwards a thing or two.

----------------

Stan Nowitzki
Image
Stan's first bucket of the night was this fadeaway jumper that Dirk would be proud of. He had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The Other Jim
Image
In this game, Jim Simon was the other Jim. He had a case for the trophy though with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 3 steals.

Awful Name But Nice Game
Image
Amory Emery (ugh!) has some nice moves. He scored 13 points for the Rookies.

Another Promising Point Guard
Image
The Heat have a nice prospect in Augustus Travis. Even though he was outplayed by James Palmer, he had a nice stat night with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

All-Star Weekend: All-Star Game

Vick's Historic Fourth Embarrasses East

Image

The West continued it's dominance over the East with a 95-81 win in the 2025 All-Star Game. With the MacDonald and Perko comibination stealing the pregame headlines, it was Caleb Vick who stole the show towards the end. Vick scored an incredible 28 points in the fourth, which included 4 three pointers from as many attempts. Overall, he was 12/13 from the field, with 31 points for the night. His teammate Hobbes MacDonald had early control of the game, as he ended up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Taylor MacKenzie was the best of the Denver contingent with 15.

For the East, Toronto's Igor Martin was their best with 20. The Nets' Nicholas Schneider was also imposing with 18, while Luis Campbell (Charlotte) scored 11.

Even though Denver and Detroit both had 3 stars in the game, it ended up being a night for the New Orleans Hornets. While New Orleans may be Hobbes' city, Caleb Vick showed that he's a star in his own right.

Certainly does look like a fun All-Star Weekend. Although it would've been cool to see one of your players take home the All-Star MVP, it wouldn't be realistic if that happened year after year. That's quite a fourth quarter performance!

Good to see you pick up another Rookie Challenge MVP award though. It certainly speaks to your ability to find good and serviceable generated players. (Y)

badreligionau wrote:EDIT: I just noticed two players on the West team (Vick and T-Mac) are wearing number 50

No longer an issue. :) Up until 1996, players did have to change their numbers for the All-Star Weekend, based on seniority. Using the 1996 game as an example, there were four number 33s on the East: Ewing kept 33, Pippen went with 30, Hill chose 35 and Mourning went with 45. When they went with individual team jerseys in 1997, they allowed duplicate jersey numbers, something they've maintained even after going back to having East and West jerseys.

I think he's 32 or 33 around about now (I'll have to check to confirm that). I actually did a post not too long ago about players drafted past 2009 that I wished were in this game. I listed both Irving and Wall, but not Davis, since he hadn't been drafted then.

I was setting it up for Hobbes MacDonald to win it, since he's been MVP the last few years and is the best player in the game (last time I checked he had an overall of 98). But as soon as Vick hit a few threes and started finishing off the fastreaks, I put the effort into getting him over the line. It was one of the more enjoyable All-Star Weekends of recent memory :)

And I had no idea about that. I just thought it was another NBA Live 10 thing. At one point, I had both Alejandro Carlos and Taylor MacKenzie wearing number 18 on the team and it was just allowed, so that's what I thought was happening.

5 Game Summary

In the round split up by the All-Star break, Denver went 5-0, extending their winning streak to 7 games. Utah offered little resistance, while Memphis had two completely different teams playing in the back-to-back games. The Nuggets ended the summary with two solid wins in Texas.

The feature this time is in Houston:

Nuggets Run Down Rockets

Denver came from behind to win in Houston by 88-80. Trailing by 13 at the start of the 4th, Denver outscored Houston in the 4th by 35-14. They were sparked by mainstays Taylor MacKenzie (26 points) and Borislav Perko (16 points 12 rebounds 12 assists), while Dwight Howard (12) and Stan Griffiths (11) also contributed to the Rockets demise.

Marcel Turner was the main man for Houston, as he scored 22. Armando Ferrer provided the Nuggets with a few problems, as he scored 18, while Austin Nolan (16 points 6 assists) and Waldo Bonner (10 points 16 rebounds) were also instrumental in the early domination.

The Rockets successfully held a 13 point lead all the way through the 3rd quarter, but the Nuggets showed championship resilience to win the game, proving a game is never over until the final buzzer.

For the 3rd time this season, Taylor MacKenzie tallied 33 points; this time it was against the Utah Jazz.

With the development of Jim Simon and James Palmer, combo guard Vince MacMahon hasn't gotten a lot of love this season. But against the Grizzlies, he proved he's still a potent offensive weapon, tallying 28 points.

He's a nice complement to my setup. He has the ability to get assists, but his game doesn't really rely on it. Steven Hunt's game however was beginning to rely on it, as he was shooting less than 40 percent from the field. I think what made James Palmer a star in my eyes was the post move he put on Stan

Trade Deadline News: Nuggets Receive Westbrook and Pick for Hunt

Nuggets point guard Steven Hunt was sent to New Orleans in a trade deadline deal. In return, they received veteran combo guard Russell Westbrook and the Hornets' 2025 first round pick.

It was speculated that Hunt would be on the move after he was made inactive in the game after the All-Star break; the same game that saw James Palmer register 30 points and 17 assists in his debut as a starter.

Denver gets: A rather large expiring contract and what's likely to be a late first round pick. Denver now becomes the major player in the free agency.

New Orleans gets: A piece that most likely gives them the second seed in the West. Their projected starting lineup looks like this:

C: Rasheed Myer (77)
PF: Marty Snow (73)
SF: Hobbes MacDonald (98)
SG: Caleb Vick (90)
PG: Steven Hunt (91)

--------------------------

Was awfully tempted to call this the "Steven Urkel" trade

Since I wasn't going to be using Hunt all that often, I thought I'd shift him to a team with a lot of talent. Being in the Western Conference, the Hornets could provide a mighty challenge for me in the playoffs.

Watch out for Hunt getting revenge in the playoffs, nice pick up which, in this universe, is a seasoned vet Russell Westbrook.

That deal came out of nowhere. :) Not a bad idea though, moving a player that's fallen from favour and trimming the rotation down to his replacement, plus some serviceable backups that don't need a lot of minutes and can play a couple of positions if necessary. It makes sense for the story too, accommodating a player who no longer fits the team with an opportunity to start again elsewhere.

That side is going to be really hard to play. I think MacDonald, Vick and Hunt all have speed ratings of 99, so if anyone can match my run-and-gun style, it can be the Hornets. It'll be a great challenge, provided everything goes to plan in each respective series.

megarover wrote:Nothing is worse then a bug bite. Dont let them Hornets come back and sting ya.

I'll do my best, but I don't think I'd be able to sweep them. I wonder if they're going to do some stupid trade next season...

That's kind of how I felt with the Nene trade (IRL), particularly since he recently signed a new deal with them. I saw a similar situation unfolding here. With Palmer doing such a good job and Hunt having a high rating, I thought it'd be better for him to contribute elsewhere and I knew I could get a first rounder for him. Westbrook and Rose are more than capable to backup a talented prospect, so I think it all works out. I can't wait to see how the Hornets are going to play now.

February 2025 Review

Denver had a very eventful February. They had three players in each game of the All-Star Weekend, in which James Palmers picked up the Rookie Challenge MVP trophy. Palmer continued on his impressive form in that game, and not only won the February West Rookie of the Month, but made Steven Hunt expendable.

But the biggest story of the month had to be the form of Borislav Perko. His stats of 12.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, 14.3 assists and 4.7 blocks was good enough to take the West Player of the Month trophy away from MVP favourite Hobbes MacDonald. There are a few outsiders to win the trophy, but it seems to be a two horse race between MacDonald and Perko. Who will win it? Over the next two months, we'll see who steps up.

5 Game Summary

In the Nuggets first summary post-Steven Hunt, it was a mixed bag. They won against the 4th seeded Timberwolves, but lost a close one to the up-and-coming Trail Blazers, meaning their winning streak ended at 8. Borislav Perko was incredible in both of the games against the Warriors, but he got into early foul trouble against the Kings, which led to another loss. With all that in mind, Denver would still be a 60+ win team if they went 3-2 in all their 5 game blocks.

The feature game of this summary is the second against the Warriors

Perko Caps Off Incredible Back-To-Back

Image

The Denver Nuggets won their second consecutive game against the Warriors by 91-77. Taylor MacKenzie (18) and James Palmer (17) led the scoring for Denver, but it was another almost-quadruple-double by Borislav Perko that was the highlight of the night. The MVP candidate had 16 points, 15 rebounds, 22 assists and 8 blocks. Vince MacMahon (15) and Dennis Anderson (12) also provided Denver with solid production offensively.

Offensively, Kerry Bird was the best for the Warriors, scoring 30. But with Perko's shot blocking presense, they smaller Golden State team struggled, with their star Johnny Williams only scoring 13. Crawford Wilson (10 points 8 rebounds) was two rebounds away from a double-double, but was consistently outplayed by Denver's frontcourt.

Borislav Perko has dominated the Warriors this season. His averages against Golden State in Denver are 15 points, 16.5 rebounds, 21 assists and 7.5 blocks per game.

Borislav Perko had two incredible games against the Warriors. Leading into the feature game, he had 14 points, 18 rebounds, 20 assists and 7 blocks. He had 20 or more assists in both games against the Warriors.

Russell Westbrook actually had a great debut for Denver. Off the bench, he led the scoring with 22 points. If Skip Bayless was critiquing the game though, he'd highlight that he only had 3 assists and his team lost.

Denver's New One

James Palmer has handled his new role as the Nuggets starting point guard pretty well. Against the T-Wolves, he had 19 points. There are still question marks over his long-term success, but so far he's been solid.

Wow, how many times has Perko came close to that quadruple-double this season? It's gotta be at least 5 times. As for that deal, I like it. You disposed of a player you didn't have very much use for and added more experience to your roster and a first round pick. (Y) Good to hear from a fellow Axel too.

Perko continues to roll, he sure had a great month in February and looks like that form has continued into March. That quadruple double has to happen at some point!

Lately I've been controlling him pretty much exclusively on defense. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't get the quadruple-double in the game he actually had 10 blocks in.

Seems to be happening at least once every summary at the moment. I'd almost say it's a career season for him at the moment. I like the deal for Westbrook too. I can't speak for the Superstar difficulty, but at All-Star, player ratings don't have much of a bearing on how I play. I actually struggled to use Steven Hunt properly and he is rated 91. It's all about who I can use effectively in the end.

I really want it to be this season. There's been so many chances, it's ridiculous that it hasn't fallen yet. But it's been a fun milestone to chase.

Dominant Centres; An Extinct Species?

Go back to the year 2000 and a player by the name of Shaquille O'Neal led the league in scoring while playing in the centre position. 25 years on, and the scoring of centres in the league has completely dried up. With all 30 teams calculated, the points per game average for a starting centre in the NBA is only 5.04 points per game; a farcry from Shaq's league-topping 29.3 in the season 1999-00.

Out of the 30 starting centres in the NBA, 9 players have identified their primary position to be at the power forward. Even though that's less than a third, three power forwards are the top three highest scoring centres in the league. This is what the top 5 looks like:

TeamPoints Per Game Leaders:
Starting Centres
Toronto Raptors*Igor Martin 14.7
Denver Nuggets*Stan Griffiths 12.4
Miami Heat*Amos Brauer 9.7
Los Angeles LakersArchie Sheehan 8.9
Detroit PistonsDakota Kane 6.4

*listed as a power forward in their primary position

Another interesting fact; Dwight Howard (8.9 ppg) is actually the league leading point scorer amongst the true centres. After 20 seasons in the NBA, Howard is playing his 21st off the bench; the first season in his entire career in which he's done so. While Dwight's longevity is a credit to his physical conditioning and ability to remain a key role player in a team, it's also a true indication of what a legitimate centre is still worth in this game.

Will the NBA see another dominant big man? Or has the league evolved to a point where centres just need to play a role?
