10 Game Review
Every season so far, I've done a review on my players after 10 games, so why break the formula? Here's what I've made of my guys:
Chris Andersen: Defensively excellent once again, leading the league in rebounds and in the top 5 for blocked shots. Only averaging 4 points per game, but his role on the team is his defense.
Michael Beasley: He's been solid without being brilliant. Scoring 10 points a game and grabbing 5.3 rebounds. He was expected to take over the second scorer duties with Earl gone, but he ranks 4th in points per game. He's having a good season, but after his excellent playoffs run last season, I'd personally expect a little more.
Carmelo Anthony: Melo is without a doubt the most important guy in this side. His scoring load has increased since Smith's departure and at times the team has become too reliant on him to produce. He's scoring at 25.8 points per game, 2nd in the league behind Dwyane Wade. He is also statically the team's second best shot blocker and stealer. I say statistically, because while Camby is on the bench, he's not really the team's second best shot blocker. When Melo was in foul trouble against the Bobcats, the team suffered majorly. Much of the team's success is on his shoulders.
Shannon Brown: He has been the biggest gamble of the year... so has it paid off? So far, it's too early to tell. He went quiet in the last two games against Memphis and Charlotte, but before that, he was scoring at a solid rate. He is in fact the team's second best scorer with 14.1 points per game. For the gamble to pay off, he might have to average somewhere around 16-18 if he's the team's second scorer... or maybe I'm just putting too much pressure on him. He has big shoes to fill and at the moment, he's doing a pretty good job.
Chauncey Billups: So far so good for Billups, as he's averaging 11 points per game and 8 assists. While it's arguable that his jumpshot has dropped off the last few years, he's still good enough to keep teams honest.
Matt Bonner: A little erratic at the start of the season, but he has had his hot games. 22 points against San Antonio is the highlight of his year so far. He's in the team as a 3 point specialist and at the moment, he's shooting just below 30 percent from behind the arc. Being the last year of his contract, he will need to pick up his game.
Mario Chalmers: Hasn't been the breakout year I thought it might have been for him, but he's still providing good backup for Billups getting 3.4 assists per game off the bench. Nowhere near as impressive as he was late last season, but he's only played 10 games.
Marcus Camby: Camby has been a solid contributer off the bench. Denver lose absolutely nothing in defense when he comes on, averaging 4.2 rebounds per game and almost a block per game... expect that block average to go up as the year goes on too. He's also scoring 5.8 points per game, which is more than Chris Andersen at the moment.
Arron Afflalo: I'll tell you when he plays a game
Grant Hill: He may be 39, but he still plays at a rather high level. He scored 10 points against the Bobcats when Melo was in foul trouble.
Ty Maximilian: He's only played 4 games but he's managed to provide the highlight reels with a potential dunk of the year. The next step for him to get more minutes? Become a better team player and eliminate the turnover problem.
Louis Williams: see Arron Afflalo
Ray Warren: He has only played one game and he had a solid debut. He will find it had to get any time with the two centres in front of him.
