5 Game Summary

The Denver Nuggets have started the season off well with a record of 4-1. Their only loss came to the Lakers in an overtime game. Shannon Brown is currently trying to fit in with the club's system and so far he's doing pretty well. While his shooting has been inconsistent, he has been getting to the line plenty and he is yet to miss a free throw. The feature game of the round is of course the Lakers game. Here it is:

Lakers win in overtime

Image

Despite a career game from former Laker Shannon Brown, the LA Lakers have won in overtime against Denver 94-89. Shannon Brown was the high point man of the game with 39 points, which included 7-9 from three point territory. However Kobe's Lakers had a more even spread of scorers with Odom getting 26, Bynum and Gasol both scoring 17 and Kobe himself, with a team oriented game had 21 points and 10 assists.

For Denver, the next highest scorer to Shannon was Melo with 17, while Beasley (10) was the only other player in double figures. Denver did well to get so close, after trailing at half time by 20 points. However the Lakers were on fire, with all their stars contributing. Lamar Odom just doesn't seem to miss when he's hot, neither does Kobe.

Denver's new faces

Image
Camby here doing what he does best. His best game was against the Thunder, where he had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block.

Image
Used sparingly for the time being, Grant Hill needs to adjust to a new role. In the times he has gotten minutes, he has scored points and still looks in good shape.

Image
Rookie Ray "Rabbits" Warren made his debut against Minnesota. It's the only game he's played so far, but he made a nice contribution with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block. Reminds me a lot of Nathan Jawai.

The Shannon Brown Factor

I thought I'd give Shannon his own section since he's got the biggest role out of all the new faces. In his first 5 games, here's his scores:

GSW: 16 points
LAL: 39 points
PHO: 16 points
MIN: 16 points
OKC: 9 points

He has big shoes to fill, but so far, he's doing a good job.

It's a bit of a gamble I know, but if it works out, I would have saved 8 million dollars a year in cap room for the next two years.

He was definitely running hot that night. If people leave him open from the side, he'll most likely knock it down.

And Camby belongs in that uniform ;)

He's coming along really well so far. I think my team will be alright.

Yeah, I'm real happy with how I've started so far. Losing against the Lakers is always a kick in the balls, but hey, gotta focus on the positives.

Everything is working out nicely. I have a nice mix of players this year.

The Generated

Image

It occurred to me that the general public wouldn't know much... if anything about the players on my team that have been generated from NBA Live 10. So before my next 5 game summary, I thought I'd help you all get better aquainted.

Ray Warren (left of picture)

Personal
----------
Nickname: Rabbits (after Australian commentary icon Ray Warren)
DOB: 24th of November 1985
Birthplace: Paisley, Scotland
Height: 6'8
Weight: 248lbs

Career info
-------------
School: Tennessee
Drafted: 45th pick overall by Denver in 2011
Position: Centre
Second Position: Power Forward
Duration on contract: 2

Description: Ray is an undersized centre, but he plays like a 7 footer. He's strong down low, throws down a viscious dunk and grabs the boards. In his draft report, he was compared to Nick Collison, however in my observation, he plays a lot like Nathan Jawai. He's a very physical player and isn't afraid to go up against the bigger centres. One thing that will get in the way of him being a star is he's got no jumpshot, but on the defensive end he's more than adequate.

Ty Maximilian (right of picture)

Personal
----------
DOB: 14th of July 1989
Birthplace: Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Height: 6'6
Weight: 202lbs

Career info
-------------
School: USC
Drafted: 22nd pick overall by Denver in 2010
Position: Small Forward
Second Position: Power Forward
Duration on contract: 3

Description: Ty has all the physical tools to be a great player in this league. He's strong and he jumps as well as anyone in the league. He is known to throw down emphatic dunks and in his brief career, he's already made it to the highlight reel several times. He was compared to Rudy Gay in his draft analysis. A fair analysis of his potential, but in order for him to get to that level, he must learn to share the ball over and reduce the amount of turnovers he gets. With Melo in front of him in the rotation, he doesn't get much playing time... but when he does, he's likely to pull off an eye-popping play ALA Shannon Brown (maybe not quite to that extent).

Great start to the year, shame about the Lakers game but it sounded exciting nevertheless. Looks like you made the right moves in the offseason.

5 Game summary

In this lot of 5 games, Denver went 3-2. The Nuggets extended their streak out to 5 games, winning comfortably against Dallas and San Antonio. However they were stretched to another overtime game against the Hornets, in which they won. They encountered two losses at the end of their 5 game round against Memphis and Charlotte. Which brings us to the feature game against the Memphis Grizzlies, who now have former Denver Nugget Earl Smith III.

Denver lose again in overtime

Image

Despite a massive game from Carmelo Anthony, Denver have lost in overtime against the Memphis Grizzlies 101-97. Melo looked unstoppable and he exploited a mismatch against former Nugget Earl Smith, as he went on to score a massive 59 for the game. He also came up with 10 boards to be the Sprite Performer of the Game. However with Michael Beasley (14) being the only double digit scorer, he had little help, while the Grizzlies had 5 players in double figures, led by Mike Conley, who had 27. Conley came up with some telling shots in the overtime stretch and proved to be the match winner for Memphis. Mayo (23), Smith (19), Randolph (16) and Thabeet (14) all provided excellent support.

10 Game Review

Image

Every season so far, I've done a review on my players after 10 games, so why break the formula? Here's what I've made of my guys:

Chris Andersen: Defensively excellent once again, leading the league in rebounds and in the top 5 for blocked shots. Only averaging 4 points per game, but his role on the team is his defense.

Michael Beasley: He's been solid without being brilliant. Scoring 10 points a game and grabbing 5.3 rebounds. He was expected to take over the second scorer duties with Earl gone, but he ranks 4th in points per game. He's having a good season, but after his excellent playoffs run last season, I'd personally expect a little more.

Carmelo Anthony: Melo is without a doubt the most important guy in this side. His scoring load has increased since Smith's departure and at times the team has become too reliant on him to produce. He's scoring at 25.8 points per game, 2nd in the league behind Dwyane Wade. He is also statically the team's second best shot blocker and stealer. I say statistically, because while Camby is on the bench, he's not really the team's second best shot blocker. When Melo was in foul trouble against the Bobcats, the team suffered majorly. Much of the team's success is on his shoulders.

Shannon Brown: He has been the biggest gamble of the year... so has it paid off? So far, it's too early to tell. He went quiet in the last two games against Memphis and Charlotte, but before that, he was scoring at a solid rate. He is in fact the team's second best scorer with 14.1 points per game. For the gamble to pay off, he might have to average somewhere around 16-18 if he's the team's second scorer... or maybe I'm just putting too much pressure on him. He has big shoes to fill and at the moment, he's doing a pretty good job.

Chauncey Billups: So far so good for Billups, as he's averaging 11 points per game and 8 assists. While it's arguable that his jumpshot has dropped off the last few years, he's still good enough to keep teams honest.

Matt Bonner: A little erratic at the start of the season, but he has had his hot games. 22 points against San Antonio is the highlight of his year so far. He's in the team as a 3 point specialist and at the moment, he's shooting just below 30 percent from behind the arc. Being the last year of his contract, he will need to pick up his game.

Mario Chalmers: Hasn't been the breakout year I thought it might have been for him, but he's still providing good backup for Billups getting 3.4 assists per game off the bench. Nowhere near as impressive as he was late last season, but he's only played 10 games.

Marcus Camby: Camby has been a solid contributer off the bench. Denver lose absolutely nothing in defense when he comes on, averaging 4.2 rebounds per game and almost a block per game... expect that block average to go up as the year goes on too. He's also scoring 5.8 points per game, which is more than Chris Andersen at the moment.

Arron Afflalo: I'll tell you when he plays a game

Grant Hill: He may be 39, but he still plays at a rather high level. He scored 10 points against the Bobcats when Melo was in foul trouble.

Ty Maximilian: He's only played 4 games but he's managed to provide the highlight reels with a potential dunk of the year. The next step for him to get more minutes? Become a better team player and eliminate the turnover problem.

Louis Williams: see Arron Afflalo

Ray Warren: He has only played one game and he had a solid debut. He will find it had to get any time with the two centres in front of him.

It's been a busy last few weeks or so. It was satisfying to know that Melo got a ring before Lebron... don't know if it'll work out like that in real life though... I'm hoping though

He might be in Sac town? I'm not quite sure, I'm away for the weekend so I can't check my ps3. I do remember he was one of the top free agents of the year... him along with Earl and Delonte West.

Yeah, the tough stretches keep me interested and motivated. It always sucks though when your former players are doing well against you. But hey, that's just a part of the game.

Grant and Camby still in the league? Pretty old folks in your team.

Beasley's awful... his numbers are basically saying that he is a bust for 2nd overall pick.

Shaq is as well, he's playing for the Warriors. Both players are old, but Camby still hits the boards and blocks shots as good as anyone in the league. As for Hill, he's a backup swingman and for the role that he has, he gets the job done.

As for Beasley, I'll have to completely disagree with you. If it wasn't for Beasley, I doubt that I would have won the championship last season. He had an excellent playoff series, especially against Cleveland and he was probably the second best player in the series behind Melo. His start to the season has been sub par I suppose, but he's far from being awful. I think he's an incredibly important part to my dynasty :)
