I think he's actually gotten better with age. After the rookie season, it took me a long time to figure out how to use him effectively... that and 3 of those seasons were simmed. The sim engine has been known to be particularly unkind to him.

Andrew wrote:Awesome, the game generated a Vince MacMahon?

Looks like you're on a roll at the moment. (Y)

The game has him as "Vincenzo MacMahon", but I already have a Vincenzo on my team. It's funny because, I've seen a bunch of Vincenzo's and Bartholomew's, but not one Kenneth.

Please keep in mind after my next 5 game summary that you wrote this after I played the 5 games :P it's good to have you back.

Stan has been a beast so far

That's right, Ripley Maximilian. I wish I could have more details about Stan's brother. All I know is, he plays for the same college that Stan did and he's entering the draft after Stan. Two coincidences there that are too big to ignore.

If I draft him, I believe it'd be the first brother combination to play on the roster at the same time. I tried to get Robin and Brook Lopez together, but the free agency wiped Robin after a few seasons of inactivity. I'm also kind of bummed out that Taylor Griffin didn't stay in the game for long

January 2024 Review

A lot changed for the Nuggets in the month of January. Two guys who weren't getting playing time were traded for some useful pieces, as well as a couple of picks. Dennis Anderson has fit right into the Nuggets game, with his highlight for his new team being 36 against the Hawks. The jury's still out on Vince MacMahon, but being a tall point guard with three point range, he could also be very useful to the franchise. And how can we forget Blake Griffin? Even though he's not the devastatingly athletic talent he used to be, he can still impress the NBA fans the world over with the odd dunk or five.

Taylor MacKenzie registered his first career triple-double, while Borislav Perko added to his collection as well. With all that said though, the main man is still Stan Griffiths. After another impressive month, he's not only earned another Rookie of the Month award, but he's also made his debut in the MVP race.

With two losses at the end of the month, the Nuggets will look to break that cycle and make their way to the top of the Western Conference.

The Green Summary

Just to change things up a little, I decided that the Nuggets would wear their green jersey for this 5 game summary. It all started well with a 20 point win over the Jazz. The game against Charlotte ended up being a lot closer and will be featured a little later. The Nuggets latest win streak would end at 8 though, with losses over the rising New Jersey Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Denver ended the summary on a high though, with a close win over the Chicago Bulls.

The feature game is against the Bobcats in Charlotte:

Nuggets Edge Out Bobcats

Image

The Nuggets came away with a 88-84 win against the Bobcats in Charlotte. Stan Griffiths did his All-Star bid no harm, leading the way with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Dennis Anderson (15) and Taylor MacKenzie (14) both provided solid contributions on the offensive end, while Simon Sampson had a bench cameo with 11 points.

For the Bobcats, it was a former Nuggets championship player who starred. For Denver, he was a perenial IR placeholder, but Basil Richter scored 26 against his former team and is well on the way to his own All-Star berth. He and Luis Campbell (20) provided many headaches for the Nuggets defense, but they lacked scoring off the bench. Timothy Banks was the only other double-digit scorer with 12 points.

With this win, the Nuggets winning streak extended to 8 games.

T-Mac was in some vintage form against Utah, with 34 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. He might not be getting consecutive triple-doubles, but Taylor is proving to be an excellent all-round player this season.

Dennis Vs Cody

Dennis Anderson and Cody Campbell came up against eachother for the first time since the trade. Anderson won the matchup with 29 points, while Campbell had 22.

Steven Hunt is becoming more of an offensive threat as the season goes on. In the loss against Cleveland, he had 20 points and 10 assists.

I'm guessing it'll be easier to accomplish so many real players no longer in the game, but it seems maintaining an underdog roster really works well for you. Hope this is the season that breaks the drought. :)

I have an interesting balance in my team right now. My bigs are undersized, but my wing players are actually pretty tall. I guess being a fan of Toni Kukoc has a lot to do with that preference. The limitless possibilities with Stan Griffiths also inspires me a lot too.

What was the first ASG that both rosters were made entirely of generated players?

I definitely like the balance. I kind of like it when I have less than 3 players on the team. Feels more realistic to me... it's a shame Hunt or MacKenzie couldn't find their way in though.

Mavs4Life wrote:Yeah, Stan for both MVPs!

If that happens, it'll be renamed the All-STAN Weekend ;)

I'd take a guess and say 2023. Dwight Howard was a regular fixture in the All-Star Game before that, so that'd be my best guess. I'll have to look through at some stage and see if it's actually true though.

All-Star Weekend: Rookie Challenge

Rookies Hold On; Stan Wins MVP

Image

As it was widely predicted, the Rookies were able to defeat the Sophomores, with a final score of 82-77. In the first of the two games he'll play this weekend, Stan Griffiths won the Rookie Challenge MVP with 28 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks. He dominated the game on both ends of the floor, edging out second overall pick Don Ripley for the MVP trophy. Ripley's game was also outstanding, as the Bucks point guard registered 14 points and 15 assists. Nuggets backup centre Timothy Ullrich was also a major contributor for the Rookies, with 13 points and 5 rebounds.

OKC's Willie O'Neal was the best of the second year players, with 21 points and 10 assists. Marudee Luelae (Dallas) scored 17, while Sacramento's Toby Lloyd chipped in with 12.

---------------------------

Rookies Vs Sophomores

Rookies: 82 (Griffiths 28, Ripley 14, Ullrich 13)
Sophomores: 77 (O'Neal 21, Luelae 17, Lloyd 12)

Rookie Challenge MVP: [DEN] Stan Griffiths 28 points 11 rebounds 5 assists 5 blocks 2 steals

Rebounds

Rookies: Griffiths 11
Sophomores: Byrne 12

Assists

Rookies: Ripley 15
Sophomores: O'Neal 10

---------------------------

Representing Denver

Image
Stan Griffiths and Timothy Ullrich both proved to be key players for the Rookies. Here are their stats:

Griffiths: 28 points 11 rebounds 5 assists 5 blocks 2 steals [MVP]
Ullrich: 13 points 5 rebounds 1 block 1 steal

Assist Machine

Image
Don Ripley looked like he could potentially take the trophy away from Stan. He had 14 points and 15 assists.

Best On A Losing Team
Image
Willie O'Neal was the best of the Sophomores, with 21 points and 10 assists.

George Power?
Image
Marudee Luelae scored 17. Like the Nuggets Ollie Stearn, he's also from North Korea, but his look resembles that of the Suns' George Power.

All-Star Weekend: All-Star Game

West Dominates East; MVPerko Denies Stan Double

Image

After losing in the previous game, the West dominated the East by a score of 98-84. All the talk was around a Stan Griffiths double-MVP, but his Nuggets teammate was the story of this game. Borislav Perko came off the bench and had 22 points and 9 assists to pick up the trophy. Griffiths wasn't far behind, with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Both Hobbes MacDonald (New Orleans) and Johnny Williams (Golden State) contributed 14 each.

It was a top tier battle at the power forward position, with Griffiths and Perko taking on Igor Martin (Boston) and Luis Campbell (Charlotte). Martin ended up top scoring for the East with 22, while Campbell had 18 points and 8 rebounds. Chicago's Howard Ryan had the only double-double of the game, with 17 points and 11 assists, while starting point guard Dickey Freeman (Boston) added 10 points.

After not being selected in the 2023 All-Star Game, it was a triumphant return for Borislav Perko, who's now won 3 of the past 5 All-Star Game MVP trophies.

----------------------------

EAST VS WEST

WEST: 98 (Perko 22, Griffiths 21, MacDonald 14)
EAST: 84 (Martin 22, Campbell 18, Ryan 17)

All-Star Game MVP: [DEN] Borislav Perko 22 points 3 rebounds 9 assists 3 blocks

Rebounds

WEST: Griffiths 6
EAST: Campbell 8

Assists

WEST: Perko 9
EAST: Ryan 11

----------------------------

The Future
Image
This is likely to be the first of many All-Star games for Stan Griffiths. His debut was impressive, as he had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. You could even argue that had a good case for a co-MVP honour.

Beast From The East

Image
Igor Martin has been a top 5-10 power forward ever since he entered the NBA. He scored 22 for the East.

The Only One

Image
Howard Ryan has filled Derrick Rose's shoes in Chicago quite nicely. He had the only double-double with 17 points and 11 assists.

An Entertainer

Image
Johnny Williams scored 14 points. He's one of the new generation of point guards that score first.

When I saw the Nene/McGee trade, I did think of this Dynasty. :)

That's a great first All-Star Weekend for Griffiths, hopefully he'll be able to carry this Dynasty into a new era. Nice to see Perko back to form with more hardware, too.

I guess you could call it a statement weekend, since there was only one player from Denver in the previous one... and none in the real life one this year. What's up with that?

I have to admit, I was pretty annoyed when I first saw it. I immediately thought of Chauncey Billups in the previous season. But I don't mind it so much now. The Nuggets are now pretty deep in every position.

I'm kind of building Stan up as the next big thing, so hopefully he doesn't disappoint :)

5 Game Summary

The dynasty's first green summary was a little patchy, but the Nuggets made this one a 5-0 stretch. Houston was beaten twice, but the second game could have went either way. The Nuggets found a new sixth man against the Grizzlies and Stan was the man once again against the Spurs. Portland... that game had such crazy numbers that it deserves an article of it's own.

But for now, the feature game is game number 2 against the Rockets:

Hunt The Hero In OT

Image

After the game couldn't be decided in regulation, the Nuggets were able to edge out the Rockets by 112-110, thanks to a game winning shot by Steven Hunt. After some patented last possession time-wasting by the Nuggets, Hunt twisted the final dagger into the Houston Rockets:

phpBB [video]

Steven Hunt ended up with 12 points.

Denver were led by the bench play of Simon Sampson. The former first overall pick had an excellent outing against the Rockets, scoring 27 to lead all scorers. Stan Griffiths had the best overall stats of the night, with 24 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. Borislav Perko (9 assists) and Taylor MacKenzie both scored 14 each, while combo guard Vince MacMahon scored 13.

Austin Nolan was the main offensive catalyst for the Rockets, as he had an almost-double-double with 26 points and 9 assists. Armando Ferrer had another strong showing against the Nuggets as well, with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Along with Ferrer, Gabriel Harris had a great night in the paint, with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Marcel Turner scored 16 and Ken O'Reilly was another near double-double miss, with 15 points and 9 assists.

This game was another classic in the Nuggets-Rockets rivalry. Although the Rockets are currently last in the West, they're always a chance against the Denver Nuggets.

Is the MVP Back?
Image
In the laugher against Portland, Perko put up some monster stats. 34 points, 17 rebounds, 15 assists and 4 blocks... he wasn't the only one who put up big numbers that night, as an overall score of 144 may suggest.

Another New High
Image
Stan once again bested his career-high in scoring. Against the Spurs, he scored 42 points, to go with 15 rebounds.

A Better Version of Ed?
Image
Vince MacMahon has added an interesting piece to the Nuggets team. He's a combo guard who's an accurate shooter from deep... he's not unlike Jason Terry. It's early days, but scoring 34 against Memphis is a good start. Can he be the player for Denver that Ed Reed promised to be?

Scoring More
Image
The current assist leader of the league, Steven Hunt is starting to add more scoring to his game. In the first game against Houston, he had 24 points and 7 assists... he even hit some 3s. Don't get too excited though, he's still shooting a woeful 15 percent from behind the arc for the season.

I have one more game to play in my next 5 game summary. But with uni currently kicking my ass, I'm not sure when it'll be up.

In the meantime, go and hype the shit out of Lamrock's story :)

Crazy game against Portland. I remember having games in which all 12 of my players scored, but I would usually only have three or four players in double figures. Nice to see the Rockets can still put up a fight despite being woeful in the West.

The Portland game was just insane. Great clutch win against the Rockets too, good ball movement to run down the clock and get that final shot. (Y)
