Retirement News

End of an era; Chauncey retires

Image

The Denver Nuggets floor general Chauncey Billups has decided to retire after having the playoffs series of his career. Despite looking good enough for another season, the 41 year old Billups decided it was best to give the game away as a winner. In the season that was dubbed the Year of the Big Shot, Chauncey didn't disappoint, hitting 4 game winners during the regular season and 1 to send the game into overtime. In the post-season he averaged 23 points, almost 7 assists and 2 steals per game to win his second Finals MVP to go with his 6th ring.

If the old saying of "you're only as good as your last game" is true, then Billups will go down as one of the greatest ever with a huge 36 point effort in the final game of his career. Denver will now go into next season with a new starting point guard, which could change the complexion of their title defense.

Yao's career ends... now

Reigning 6th man of the year Yao Ming has decided to call it a day. After suffering from a potentially career ending injury in 2016, Yao was given a chance to comeback with the Denver squad and made the most of his opportunity. He led Denver in rebounds and blocked shots during the season to win the 6th man award. He topped off a great comeback season by picking up his first championship ring.

Birdman to comeback as 12th man

It is believed that Chris Andersen will come back to play one more year in a reduced role for Denver. The speculation around the front office is that the Nuggets are looking to pick up a starting centre from free agency and give the main backup duties to Robin Lopez.

Ouch!

But atleast Yao and especially Chauncey had one heck of a year!
still happy that Birdman would still play for you.

not bad stats thou for a 41 year old veteran. 23 Points and 7 Assists Per Game?

Re-signing news

Taylor in for 4

Taylor MacKenzie has signed a new 4 year deal with the Denver Nuggets.

Vine to test free agency

After an impressive playoff series, Garth Vine has decided to test his value in the free agent market.

Draft news/rumours

Denver get last picks

Denver will have the 30th and 60th pick of the 2018 draft.

Hill on the move?

With a history of moving on players whose production has decreased in the draft, there is speculation that former 6th man of the year Jordan Hill will be moving on along with one of Denver's draft picks.

I'll give it a go, but it might take me a little longer to get through the season this time... it all depends I suppose, but I'll probably take the 10 season on a more part-time basis (famous last words)

It's sad to see them both go, but atleast together they led possibly the most dominant team of all time.

23 and 7 is good for any age group I believe :)

Yeah, im pretty sure that you'll get hard up oing for gold once again since you have no more Yao and Chauncey,
But hey you still have Young Nugg (Young Buck), Perko, Power, JR Smith, KD (he should step up more) who sould help you? Right?

They should all gain more confidence now that they are gonna play in a much bigger role without Chancey and Yao and Andersen aging already. You still have a whole alot of talent i believe.

Can't imagine a better time for Billups and Yao to retire.

Looking forward to free agency!

Liking the off-season coverage. Should be interesting to see how you re-tool the team for another run (Y)

I guess Billups and Yao retiring were inevitable. Now you have Jennings. (Y)

Good to see Yao retire with a ring, definitely awesome to see that. (Y) Chauncey Billups's retirement will definitely give BJ more time to shine. Hope all goes well in the offseason. :)

Good off-season so far, trade Hill for future second round pick

A shame that Mr Big Shot has called it a day but he's going out on a high, which I'm sure eases the disappointment he's not making a run at Robert Parish's record. What a career he's had in your Dynasty, a Nugget through thick and thin and an integral part of every single championship. Make sure you don't give anyone else #1 so long as you keep this Dynasty going. ;)

Or this Dynasty won't make Hall of Fame  Since the game doesn't retire jerseys anymore (Live '04 anyone (Y) ), you have to manage it yourself.

Though he's probably not the same player he is in his rookie year.

Wow... Just he was 42 years old when retiring. At least some cap space for young guns.
Anyway, good to see that you won a ring AGAIN.

HOF this one.

There's definitely a great foundation for the future with my squad at the moment. I'd love for Jennings to step in Chauncey's boots but I'll be looking to sign a quality back up just for insurance; Yung Gold isn't quite as consistent as Mr Big Shot yet.

I concur; he had an incredible playoffs series from the first round to the NBA Finals. A fitting fairwell to a great leader of the game :)

I still have a few decisions to make as far as ramping up the difficulty and what not, but I can't suck on Superstar on NBA Live 10 as much as I suck on All-Star in 2k11

And I can't wait to see what he delivers as the floor general for my team :)

I'm also glad that Yao worked for his ring too. He was an integral part of my team and after all the injuries he's endured, it's nice to give him a Grant Hill-esque redemption season :D

We'll see what happens. As much as I like Jordan Hill, it doesn't feel fair to have him warming my bench. He's much better than that... atleast in this dynasty.

It was a feature I liked in 06 as well. Like Camby's 23, I shall keep my eye out for any imposters that might want to wear Chauncey's #1 ;)

The surprising thing is, T-Mac 2.0 is only 26!

It seems like he's been around forever, but age is still well and truly on his side. He still has the potential to get better at this age I think, though with his inconsistancy and lack of playing time, his ceiling may have been lowered.

z02 wrote:So what big names are in free agency this year?

The biggest one is definitely the reigning MVP Stephen Curry. Then again, almost the entire Suns roster is on free agency, including the other two of the big three (James and Oden). I'm not likely to make a play at those guys though.

-----------------------------------------

Sorry it's taken me so long. Aside from purchasing Fallout New Vegas and trying to get an Association going on NBA 2k11, my PS3 keeps coming up with a ps3 trophies error and won't let me boot up NBA Live 10. It's a bit of a pain in the ass but hopefully it's something that can be fixed because I have every intention with going on with this season.

Free Agent Signing

Squad 6 Arrives in Denver

Image

Denver's first free agent signing of the off-season is veteran big Andrew Bogut. Bogut signed a 2 year deal with the Nuggets after being a one club man for his entire career. This signing also sees him reunite with former teammate Brandon Jennings. It's unclear what Bogut's role will be with the team, but at worst he'll probably be the backup centre to Robin Lopez.

Coming back from a Holliday

Image

Former rookie stand-out Jrue Holiday signed a 4 year deal with the Denver Nuggets. With Chauncey Billups retired and Patrick Mills on the decline, the Nuggets needed depth at the point position. Holiday comes back to the NBA after a lengthy hiatus.

Denver to sign one more?

There are rumours going around that Denver might be willing to make room for one more free agent acquisition. The likely player to be waived would be Basil Richter.
