Yeah, when you play 7 mins, the simulated quarters should be 12 so the averages would match. Kind of boring when all your guys made the team.

But a great achievement nevertheless. :P

All these statements about Chauncey are 100 percent true. Mr Big Shot is the man :)

See, I thought 10 minutes might be alright because while my players are leading the league in a lot of the categories, some players are catching up now I've put it up to 10. I was thinking of starting my next season with 10. If it still seems lopsided after that, I'll kick it up to 12. I actually don't want all my players to get in the all-star lineup every year, but this season it made for a great story since the West were down and my guys brought it back :)

5 Game Recap

In the 5 games after the All-Star weekend, Denver dropped 2 of them. One was a 2 point loss against San Antonio, and despite a great effort from bench players Arron Afflalo (17), Matt Bonner (17) an Ty Maximilian (8), they lost to the Cavaliers. Denver are currently 36-17. The feature game of this round is against the Boston Celtics at home, and this is how it went:

Boston embarrased at Pepsi Center

Image

The Boston Celtics suffered an embarrassing loss to the Denver Nuggets, going down 87-66. Beasley lead the way with 21 ponts and 8 rebounds, which included 4/4 shooting from beyond the arc. However it was once again a team effort with 5 players of the Nuggets reaching double figures. Carmelo Anthony has followed on with his impressive form with 20 points, while clutch hero Chauncey Billups was named Sprite Performer of the Game with 14 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. The other players in double figures for Denver were Matt Bonner (13) and Earl Smith (11).

For Boston, Rajon Rondo was the high scorer, with 23. However he had little help, with only Ray Allen (16) and Kevin Garnett (10) really troubling the scorers. Kevin Garnett managed to finish with a double-double with 14 rebounds as well, but the Celtics got killed on the offensive boards all game.

Denver lead by as many as 24 at the end of the first half. Despite Boston getting back to within 12 in the third, they were outclassed by an impressive performance by the Nuggets.

Unlikely Hero

Despite losing to Cleveland, Denver can take encouragement from the fact that Afflalo scored 17 points in the second half. He was the team's equal top scorer with Matt Bonner. If he continues his impressive performances, Denver might have to think seriously about offering him a contract for next season. Sorry about the out of focus photo.

Awesome finish to the All-Star game, and a great effort to get four of your players in as starters. A Nuggets squad hasn't dominated an All-Star roster that much since the ABA's final year. ;)

Nice game by Beasley it seems the trade was beneficial. By the way what are Lawsons stats this season.

Haha definitely, I'm trying to bring back the glory of 76 :)

I think so too. I actually like his game in real life too. I'm very much sold on the idea of a power forward having shooting touch.

As for Ty Lawson, I'd suggest his stats are very negligible. Ever since Chalmers has come to the team, it's kind of hard to see where I can give him minutes. Chalmers has a better player rating and I think his game suits me more. After my February summary I'll pull up some stats on him :)

February Summary

The end of February also represents the end of the NBA teams having to wear the retro jersey... although the Lakers might argue against this. They have now leap-frogged the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference. The four games Denver are behind though are ones they haven't played yet. They are 36-17, as opposed to the Lakers who are 40-17.

In February, Denver consolidated their spot amongst the top of the West with excellent team play. On quite a few occassions, the Nuggets have had multiple players making a meaningful contribution... and it's not just the 5 all-stars. Bench players like Matt Bonner, Mario Chalmers, Arron Afflalo and to a lesser extent, Ty Maximilian have provided a spark off the bench when it's been needed.

Signing announcement

Robert Swift attempts NBA comeback

Image

In surprising news, the Denver Nuggets have signed Robert Swift for the rest of the year. With this signing, Denver now has another option at the Centre position and he will also be the only 7 footer on the team. It is seen as a great opportunity for Swift to take place in the squad for road trips to give veteran Ben Wallace a rest in preperation for the post-season.

Reasons for this signing:

-To add another big which Denver doesn't have to commit to past this season
-At 25, Swift still has a chance at a career
-Ben Wallace can take games off
-Only one of two centres willing to play for what Denver was willing to pay him. The other was Mouhamed Sene. Swift also had a better player rating.

Reasons against this signing

-His career stats are uninspired
-Injury prone
--------------------------

I'm interested to see responses to this

In my Blazers association, Swift is one of the highest rated C's available in the free agent pool. Won't sign him, hell no. :P

Never hurts to deepen the bench in case of injuries, especially for a big man who hasn't even hit his prime yet (Y)

The Blazers already have two pretty good centres as it is anyway. As long as they're not injured in the game that is.

Clutch wrote:Never hurts to deepen the bench in case of injuries, especially for a big man who hasn't even hit his prime yet (Y)

That's what I thought. Big Ben isn't far off retirement, so trying out another centre who is relatively young couldn't hurt.

About 1.3 million. In basketball terms, that's not a whole lot of money. If he was asking for more than 1.5 and I wouldn't have signed him.

Azzdogs wrote:All good reasons for signing him and hopefully he can do what you want him to do.

Here's hoping... I think it's a relatively low risk signing. If he's no good, I can waive him with no remorse or ramifications and if it works out, I have a backup centre who will be around for a while and hopefully will be pretty cheap.

5 Game recap

Denver didn't start March too well, getting blown out by the Milwaukee Bucks 83-65. After establishing a win against the LA Clippers and being in a strong position against Phoenix, Steve Nash and the Suns rallied to win in overtime 102-94. Denver's home game in Sacramento was the first game in which Robert Swift was activated, and immediately contributed with the Birdman in foul trouble. Swift ended the game with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Which now takes us to the feature game in Atlanta:

Melo's 56 destroys Atlanta

Image

When you have the opposing crowd chanting "M.V.P", you know you're legit, and that's what happened in Atlanta as Carmelo Anthony dropped 56 against the luckless Hawks. Denver ended up winning 80-65. As well as Melo, the front court of Beasley (12 points, 8 rebounds) and the red hot Chris Andersen (10 points, 15 rebounds) provided the killer blow.

For Atlanta, Joe Johnson was excellent with 21 points and 6 assists, while Crawford (15), Smith (13) and Horford (10) all provided double figure scoring. But in the end, they had no answer for Carmelo Anthony, who is shaping up as a real candidate for the MVP trophy this year.

He doesn't get mentioned as much as Melo, Earl or even B-Easy, but Chris Andersen's role in the team is as important as anyone else's. He proved this against Phoenix, receiving the Sprite Performer of the Game with this stat line:

20 points 16 rebounds 8 assists 5 blocks

Comeback kid

After his career was left in tatters by injury, Robert Swift made his NBA comeback against the Kings. He looked good with 8 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

What the hell? A crowd that has a team with a losing record would only do that. The Hawks are one of the league's best teams. Joe Johnson is their MVP.

Swift's debut as a Nugget is impressive in limited minutes. 8 points and 5 boards off the bench? That's more than what you can ask for, from, 1.5 mil investment. :applaud:

He's been tearing it up of late, getting atleast 10 rebounds every game he's playing. As for the 8 assists, Denver has a good inside-outside game when the wing players are firing, so Birdman can rack up a few assists.

By the way Azzdogs, here are Lawson's numbers:

1.9ppg 0.6apg 39.3FG%

You could say he's having a sophomore slump.

Joe Johnson being their MVP is debatable, but I see what you mean. They do have a very good team, but yeah, Melo was hot.

On the boards, having a 7 footer makes all the difference it seems. I was impressed with the way he played and who knows, with Big Ben a possibility for retirement, he might just be a prospect backup centre.

Just managed to read until the latest. Nice dynasty here, although I kinda hate the Nuggets because of last year playoffs. Billups is one of my favorite point guard and the game winning shot in the all-star game is clutch. I haven't check the roster though but I think I am liking it. Hope to read more of this dynasty (Y)

Always good to have a new reader. Chauncey is probably my favourite point guard in the NBA at the moment, but then again, I'm a big Nuggets fan. His ability to make big shots is always worth watching.

I'll take this opportunity to refresh everyone on what my current roster is:

The starters

ImageImageImageImageImage

C: Chris Andersen | PF: Michael Beasley | SF: Carmelo Anthony | SG: Earl Smith III | PG: Chauncey Billups

The bench

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

| Matt Bonner | Mario Chalmers | Ben Wallace | Arron Afflalo | Ty Maximilian | Ty Lawson | Robert Swift

Injury Reserve

Image

| Louis Williams |

--------------------------------

I tend to have an injury reserve rotation of Ben Wallace, Robert Swift and Louis Williams. I'm beginning to put Big Ben on IR during away games, but most of the time, the IR is generally filled by Louis Williams or Robert Swift.
