Fouls, dunking and practice

Postby JonMoney on Wed Dec 03, 2008 2:27 am

Ok so I have 3 short questions that someone may have some answers to. FYU I use PS2 version of NBA Live 09.

1. I have not been able to draw any fouls in the last 5-7 games I have played. Is there a trick to this? What settings do I need to experiment with so this happens as I am playing in simulation mode and I cannot seem to get anyone to foul me or stop anyone at the basket except to call intentional fouls?

2. I have a player who cannot dunk but every time I press layup he still tries to dunk the ball- what slider controls this and which way do I increase it or decrease it (Dunk frequency?)?

3. Practice against the starters and bench. Is there an order I need to have the bench in cause when I did this I wound up with Rick Davis at PG, Mark Blount at SG and Mike James at C! (Dynasty mode).

Thanks in advance for the help

1. I'd definitely recommend raising the various Fouls sliders under the Gameplay Settings. Even the default "Simulation" orientated sliders yield a very low number of fouls.

2. Correct, the Layup vs Dunk Frequency is the slider you should change if you want to see your players attempt fewer dunks. The higher the slider, the more often they'll attempt dunks.

3. No, in theory it should place everyone at an appropriate position based on their primary or secondary position. Could be another bug in the PS2 version.

Thanks Andrew,

I appreciate your help. I was unaware that the higher the slider the more attempted dunks were made. I always thought it was the other way.

It seems that the starters vs bench for the practice feature problem may just happen in dynasty as when I go to it from game modes there is no problems at all.

has anybody come up with a decent solution to the substitution issue? Is it simply putting subs to 100 and raising the fatigue level to high or does that only affect your own team? In some ways it would have been good to have a PC version this year as for NBA 08 someone here had a great fix that worked really well for that problem.

It also helps to lower everyone's Fatigue ratings so that players tire quicker and get subbed out more frequently. It's not perfect but it's effective.

Thanks sounds like a solid idea. Oh yeah I had a play around with the reordering of the rosters and also noticed that there is a problem in practice mode when doing team practice from the game mode and not just dynasty! It appears that the CPU randomly chooses a player to play a position from the bench so I get a C marking a SG and a PG marking a C so if anyone knows how to fix it it'd be fantastic otherwise I guess I'll just have to be ok with it for now!

The only thing that comes to mind would be to reorder the roster so that the first five bench players are ordered the same way as the starting lineups in the game (centre down to point guard). Probably a longshot and hardly an ideal solution if it works, but maybe something worth trying.
