Talk about NBA Live 09 here.

Since we tend to get a lot of these posts, it would be better if we once again kept them all in the one thread. By all means post your questions and reviews in new threads if you wish but if you simply want to say "I got the game", this is the place to post it.

Ok so I have NBA Live 09 for 360 (my cousin is a manager at a major retailer), so here are my first impressions after playing about 4 games. I'll be short with my answers.
Graphics
Definitely more defined from last years version, sweat effect on closeups are very good. The atmosphere seems a lot brighter than last years, I felt it always had an unnecessary dark overtone, its much improved. Jerseys and sneakers particularly are more defined this year.
Sound
Courts sounds are more realistic (meaning players, coaches talking, interacting etc). They have a song that I'm a fan of in this years sound track, I'm Jamaican so I'm a big Damien and Stephen Marley fan "The Mission" (nice touch). Commentary sounds like last year, monotone most of the time and generic.
Gameplay
The game has new dunks and layups and like 2k falling on the floor while making a layup or dunk animations. The A. I. adjust pretty well at halftime if you had a big first half (I was the Cavs, Lebron dropped 31 in first was contained in the 2nd). Team and transition defense are greatly improved. Players actually interact more with each other after plays instead walking around like drones.
Free style dribble still bothers the hell out of me. Its not very responsive or fluid in my opinion. I was attempting to string moves together in practice, during gameplay for a little over 2hrs and it just didn't feel right.
I would have liked to see Superstars like Kobe be more aggresive during the game. He had Wally Sczerbiak guarding him for most of the game for god sakes. CPU players on offense look for the open man and make good passes when a man gets open or runs of a pick, this didn't happen to often last year.
Overalll score: B-
Good game, great to look at, but I don't feel like I had total control when moving my player around the court or when handling the ball. Nice upgrade though, I'll have 2k later on today.[/youtube]

This is the thing that bothered my about Live 08. Nobody can change direction fast enough or stop on a dime. Especially when using turbo, which is probably what causes those running jumpshots rather then pull up jumpers.
Can you tell me what you think of the blocking and rebounding?

Listen, I've been a member of this board for years. I have no reason to lie. I don't know how to take screens of my 360. I have my 360 connected to my monitor by VGA input.
I don't like being threatened because I didn't provide screens. I'm not a child who needs attention by saying they have something when they do not, I'm actually an adult so treat me as such.
Pdub
Blocks when driving to the rim for dunks and layups from what I've seen aren't really anything special. You would expect some hard core rejections but I don't see it happening. I'm constantly getting blocked on jumpshots though for some reason, maybe its a slider thing. I haven't played with the settings yet.
Rebounding is difficult on the offensive and defensive end as the user. Mostly because the players are hard to control, CPU rebounds fine. But as the user, it always feels like its a second to late because the controlled player is not that responsive.
I don't know if this was in the demo, but when you first start up the game there is the annoying NBA 365 video reminder that you can't bypass no matter what button you press, its like brainwashing. I have to see if there is a way to disable it.
I like at the beginning after the NBA 365 video, its like a practice gym with all your teammates and you can do different drills on different courts, but when you choose a drill you have to choose from other NBA players not your profile team (weird).
If anyone wants anything else answered let me know.

The free style dribbles and Quickdribbles are one point that make this game better than 2k9.
I don´t know how do you make it but i dont have problem to do two dribbles in a row.The time to make the second dribble is the cuestion.
Now, you cant make dribble and dribble and... without any tempo between dribbles.
It is more real now.
And in 2k is too poor, there are strong changes of direction that make the game no real.
Of course, 2k9 is more amazing, but it is less real basketball than Live 09.
Bye.

Have to disagree with you on all points I just got NBA 2k9 this morning and its more realistic (In my opinion) than Live. I try to be objective as possible, but this is the truth. Live's dribble motions just don't make sense, or let me be more accurate, are not responsive enough for me personally but to each his own. I prefer Live 08's dribble control over this years. Don't get me wrong the game is good, but the player control is horrendous and needs to be redone. If the players moved better it would be great.
NBA 2k9 also has better presentation as well. Live needs to make their presentation more exciting, there's no pregame or halftime show, its just replays like Madden. But hey, it is what it is. You like one or the other.
Again, if anyone has any other questions let me know, I'll check back from time to time

You can edit player attributes for existing players by going to attributes ---> customize (dna option) Then selecting and editing a superstar template (j.kidd, T-Mac, Nash, R. Allen, L. James, T. Parker, B. Bowen, E. Brand, Dirk, KG, Duncan etc.)
Player Ratings that can be edited:
Player DNA, Dna Tendencies, Hot Spots, Athleticism, Inside, Outside, Defense, Teamwork.

It is clear that you dont have patience to learn the dribling tempo on Live 09.
When "anybody" takes the dribling tempo can´t say nothing against the Live 09 dribling method.
Much better than the easy and no real 2k9 dibblings, that the controlled man go to the middle of the paint without any problem, only pressing the Boost an the left analog joystyck to any direction, absolutely unreal.
2k8 was better than Live 08,but Live 08 takes a good style,different.
I like 2k9 too and 2k8,7,6,5,4,3,2,k.
But this Year Live is better.
Two games will be mine.

Thanks Arden , but I have two more questions

:
Is Rudy Fernandez in Portland roster or I have to download an update to have him ?
and,
Just to be sure- Can you sign players from National teams to NBA teams ?

Don't be such a child. Its my opinion and I'm entitled to it. If you enjoy Live 09 over 2k9 then good for you. But don't tell me I haven't been patient enough with it. I'm not fond of it so I expressed that. Until you have both games (like I do) I don't think you can make an objective observation. I'm not here to argue, I'm here to give my opinion.
Mon Oct 06, 2008 4:53 am
With both demos , i can express my "dribbling opinion" on Live 09 and 2k9.
My experience is not a little and my opinion on "dribbling methods" can be checked if the user try to do the dribbling tempo with Live 09.
The Live 09 dribbling method is the best that i have played.
¿Why? Because it is not only one person action, "the defense man position and reaction" is very important: Like in real Basket.
It is my opinion that can be checked if the user have patience to learn the dribbling method.

It certainly is, though some of us will have to wait a little longer.

My impressions are:
If you are a hardcore console basketball player and like a challenge in your games, then you should get 2k9.
If you like having fun and making players like rajon rondo get 50 points, you should get Live 09. Live also has a pretty good dynasty mode and the online features are great.
For me, live 365 makes NBA live 09 a more appealing game, but after playing the demo for the 360, I have to say 2k9 looks a bit better in their gameplay.
These are just my opinions though.

I'm gonna have to disagree....
If you alter the sliders in this years game it plays a very good game of basketball as close to sim as i've seen out of any NBA Live game on Next Gen to date.
I slightly tweaked the shooting sliders and beefed up the CPU's defense and unless your intentionally trying to just score 50 points with Rondo it ain't happening....even if you do score 50 his FG% isn't going to be that great in the process.
Don't get me wrong the game isn't perfect and it still has it's share of flaws but trust me once you start learning the sliders and finding some good settings this game is very solid and the fun factor is off the charts.

It's much improved man...it still has some issues with animations and stuff but for the most part it's a huge step up.
One thing that really caught my attention is that when you look at the playbooks this year EA set them up almost exactly the way I've been assigning team set plays the past few years meaning they no longer have Quick Plays as the base playbook
They set up things using an actual designed play and it also tells you who the Play is designed for by player name.
Kinda how we used the top 3 players on each team in years past and assigned them the bulk of the playbook.
So, now you see more movement out of the CPU right away.
