I'm guessing there must be an issue with the size of the database or some other reason those players are pruned. I certainly agree though, it would be handy to have those lower rated free agents available.

@Andrew:

Why do I get the feeling that this is a ported console issue? :?

Fri Mar 07, 2008 7:45 am

It probably has something to do with it, though the lower rated free agents would get pruned from the database way back in NBA Live 2000 as well, albeit more gradually and a few years into a Franchise game.

Fri Mar 07, 2008 7:55 am

Yeah, now I remember. I was looking for FA Shawn Kemp, who hadn't been signed for over a season and suddenly, he was gone. But the FA pool was larger in 2000, wasn't it?
Well, it doesn't matter. There is no point in deleting players from the game anymore. A player should be removed once he ends his career, not earlier.

Fri Mar 07, 2008 8:00 am

I'm pretty sure it was larger, it didn't seem to prune until later on which was kind of realistic in that some players don't retire with much fanfare or any kind of announcement, they just kind of disappear. Or in the case of younger players, spend a couple of years in the league and then play in Europe or elsewhere for the rest of their pro careers and not much is heard of them again.

1.I think Live09 can really solve the rating problems,such as R.McRoberts with a 89ovl.
2.Some ratings of the National team really makes me dizzy,Such as W.Zhizhi.In China,he's one of the best players like Yao and Yi,but in 08,he is only 40+.
3.Choose the games' amount in the Dynasty mode.I remembered that in 06,we can choose Dynasty schedule as 29/58/82,I hope that 09 can have this options.
4.Real player growth. In Dynasty mode, some youth players cannot grow very well, and some old man like Shaq and Duncan, can always get good statistics in the early years.Their rating even don't fall at all!
5.Add NBDL,when you want to sign or trade a really good player, but you don't have enough roster space, and you don't want to realese any of your players, you can get one of them into NBDL.And you can also make your assistant coach be the coach of your NBDL team.

for the last 3 or 4 years nba live did not change ( the new version is a copy of the last one with roster changes ) so a radical change for the 09 is preferred:
- a next gen nba
- focus on the gameplay
- change the commetary
- upgradeable rosters
- animated and integrated crowd
- no bugs
- in-game save

I think, presentation is the most important aspect of the game for the on-court feeling.
Gameplay comes the second.

Mon Mar 10, 2008 8:41 am

I would strongly disagree with that. The atmosphere is important and presentation is a big part of that but if the gameplay experience isn't enjoyable or satisfactory, the atmosphere and visual details don't really make up for that in my opinion. To each their own, though.

You'd rather play a shitty game that looks awesome? I can't believe that...

So...Why i still like NBA Live 2001 and 2003? Am i getting crazy? or Do i like their cut-scenes?

Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:38 am

I wouldn't say you're crazy, to each their own. I'd agree that small touches like the cutscenes do add to the atmosphere and that's important but for a lot of people those details aren't really the most important aspect, nor do they compensate for gameplay that isn't satisfactory.

1) Shot control: user & cpu
2) Free throws: user & cpu
3) Create unlimited number of teams

enter town, arena, colors, logo, jersey.
Graphics can be imported (bmp, png, jpg, whatever)

4) Create leagues

5) Fully customizable leagues and dynasty mode

e.g. play a league with 10 teams only
play a dynasty with the original nba teams and unlimited additional teams, e.g. five custom teams.
Fill those teams with free agents and created players.
Lots of free agents.

6) text to speech engine

Announcer able to call rookies and created players by their names.
Same for custom teams... e.g. Onatario Tigers.
Important: free text to speech engine, not prerecorded names.

7) edit players, edit teams, edit everything within the game without using db commanders.

Adjust teams and players to their purpose -> select which teams and players are available in the different play modes

8) official rosters with frequent updates

9) cutscenes yes or no

10) realism, realism, realism

11) practice mode like in PES 6:

one player, two players, three etc. on their own, without opponents
additionally 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 3-1, 5-2 etc.

12) multiplayer dynasty off- and online (and lan)
etc etc etc

----------

Such a game won`t be published as it is all about the sales. Each year something new is released with bugs and missing features. And flaws on purpose.

It would be great to have a basic game for two or three years whose rosters are updated. Today the graphics are good enough so features and realism are more important. I would prefer the same graphic engine for some years, buy a game for the standard price...with updated rosters from time to time...and add-ons that can be bought. e.g. new features, new courts (playground, international courts)...new international leagues, international tournaments...vintage rosters and courts...e.g. 93/94 rosters with all players and courts and ratings...

And so on and so forth.

But we all know that this will never happen.

Wed Mar 19, 2008 6:39 am

Oh, another thing: correct speech IDs!!!

Dirk Nowitzki should be called by his real German name, with its German pronounciation like in "deer". Deer-k.

It is not thaaat important but what really matters: the TV commentator and the stadium announcer should pronounce a player the same.

M. Moore is refered to as Mickey (Mouse) AND Mike-y.

Delfino is pronounced with i AND ee, as in "fine" and "fee". This is the case for many players. Stresses are different to...one time it's NesterOvic (stress on O), one time NestERovic (stress on ER).

That's annoying.

Wed Mar 19, 2008 4:47 pm

There's a shred of realism in that. It's not unheard of for certain announcers to continue to mispronounce player names; that's how I like to think of it, anyway. I agree that re-recording that audio correctly would be a nice touch though.

Portraits for dynasty generated rookies

Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:32 am

they should do what the 2k series does (or used to do, havent played since 2k6) and just take portraits of crap players and use them for the rookies

Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:56 am

Thats my idea.

And they should do what the FIFA series does about GM's contracts. When starting a dynasty you should only sign for one year. So you would be able to pick a different team next year

Thu Mar 20, 2008 8:34 am

Since the generated rookies use the generic PLYR###.fsh files, they already have "portraits" though not very high quality ones.

Thu Mar 20, 2008 9:59 am

Another audio thing: no wrong statements, such as "the difference has been bench scoring" and bench scoring is "6-4"...or "...enters the game for the first time tonight" although he has been substituted in and out several times in this game.

Thu Mar 20, 2008 10:31 am

I agree, those errors do detract from the atmosphere.

Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:55 pm

I said this in another post and I will say it again. I would like to see a big man or a point forward who is a good passer but not a whole bunch of them maybe you see up to three of them in a draft that is projected to be strong or very strong.

During the game I would like to see an opening of maybe one star player per team and how they are scoring against the team they are playing ( for example let's say Tim Duncan has a scoring avg of 21.2 ppg against the New Orleans Hornets I would like to see this in the game somewhere whether at the beginning or even during the game.

- Realistic Stats Too although I will admit it's better to see a star score the higher points who actually score a lot than say a player like Sebastian Telfair having 50 point games like he did against my team on Live 07. So the pg bug is much better than in the past.

Wed Mar 26, 2008 6:15 pm

I think part of the problem is that when a player scores a fair amount of points early on, they're almost guaranteed to top the 30 point mark whereas in real life, a player may go off for 18 points in the first half and then only score five or six in the second to finish in the mid-20s if his teammates start knocking down shots as well.

Such a phenomenon is probably easier described than implemented but it would be great if the CPU players did reflect the notion of cooling off or chose to defer to their teammates rather than continuing to pour in the points. However, it's certainly not unrealistic that the second half should see more of the same with players ending up with 30+ or 40+ points, so variation would be preferable to simply having one or the other. I would assume the way the user plays defense, player fatigue and so forth could be factors in that.

Tue Apr 01, 2008 5:43 am

Another idea: not include so many names like "romero" or "garcia" or something like that when the game creates rookies in dinasty mode. They should have names like williams, wallace, johnson, etc. Common american names.

TEAM PRACTICE

Fri Apr 04, 2008 3:23 pm

I'll like to see a Team Practice mini-game during the Dynasty(i,e. Starters vs. Bench or grouping of players according to Player Chemistry, etc.)

So i'll have a reason to use the practice jerseys :spam: :)
