Talk about NBA Live 09 here.

so i decided to do something odd with my slider set up and i had a very fun experience with it. both teams had alot of exciting plays and there were some really good stops by the cpu on defense. overall this was probably the most fluid game i have played with live 09 so far. (player movement was great on both ends) only thing that really bothered me was that i got way too many blocks and the rebounding numbers are skewed because i did take alot more shots... the cpu took advantage of scoring opportunities very well and did a descent job of defending me, except it was fairly easy to get to the basket...all in all i had the better all around game except for my shooting.
ok, first of all... set difficulty to rookie for both user and cpu. yes, i said ROOKIE
next, set ALL user sliders at 0.
then set ALL cpu sliders at 100.
global... i think needs to be adjusted to get more fouls... but you will see my results.

Very interesting results. Scoring is a little high and there are a few other issues as you've noted but some of those results look pretty good.
Sun Nov 23, 2008 9:26 am
Try it on starter difficulty now.
Sun Nov 23, 2008 12:42 pm
i think i got a lot of blocks that could have been called fouls had i put the in air collision slider up too 100 instead of 65. give it a try and see what you think. im going to play a few more games, with a weak team against a good team and a good team against a weak team, the celtics and lakers are fairly evenly matched but maybe i should do an 87 vs an 87 and a 72 vs a 72 as well... then bump it up to starter. what i found interesting was that the cpu hits 75% of their open shots (at least) but whenever i contested them, they threw up a low % shot. they shot 52% overall against me with all shooting sliders set at 100
Sun Nov 23, 2008 6:36 pm
That'll probably increase along with the difficulty, but I'd be interested to see further results.

i dont think there is any shame in playing at a lower difficulty if you get a better experience out of it
again both cpu and user on rookie

user sliders at 0

in this second game i went to overtime. i scored on a three with terry, then stole the inbound pass and got a layup and 1 for a 6 point play with only 2 seconds left in the 4th to tie 112 to 112, then orlando just got off to a fast start in ot and i couldnt catch up. they pick and rolled me to death
again, i have to say the game feels very open playing this way... i am seeing alot of animations i never saw on superstar or all star difficulty, especially from the cpu. the user teamates seem to cut to the basket more and set picks on their own also, and they rotate better to challenge on defense... but if you go for a steal and dont get it.. you get burned.
i played as the mavs, set cpu as magic.... and i lost. on rookie. wow.
final 131 me/140 cpu higher scores reflect more ft attempts

Quite true, if you enjoy the experience and get enough of a challenge it's your call to make, but it's likely that some players will have to increase the difficulty to get the challenge they want.

they could always try this on starter. that will most likely be my next step, after a few more games on rookie.
Tue Nov 25, 2008 8:09 am
They certainly could. It might be worth trying on All-Star and Superstar as well, just to see what kind of results it yields.
Tue Nov 25, 2008 4:27 pm
kingjames how are you keeping track of your progress?
Are you playing like 5-10 games to evaluate the game play and stats or just one game and moving up to the next level?
I thought yoru very 1st stats posted were easily correctable by adding in just a little more defense.
Wed Nov 26, 2008 6:02 am
actually, ive only played 3 games...(i do have a full time job, a girlfriend and a kid... so not much time to play more than a game a day) the first one i didnt track, i didnt really think about it at the time. but i got similar results in my 2nd game, which i did post here. the 3rd game used the same formula except that i increased the foul sliders. everything remained at rookie for both teams (0 for users) (100 for cpu) and as far as the defense goes, the cpu usually took advantage when i made a mistake... like every time i went for a steal and didnt get it. so every time i gambled i payed for it. the cpu doesnt miss unless you contest the shot or body up on them and force them away from the basket. when you set the cpu team to rookie, it feels like you are playing a human player who is playing on rookie... meaning i made the game easier for the cpu. it doesnt feel as tough as playing on superstar, it just feels like the cpu is set free to animate more if you get what i am saying. the cpu seems smarter, but not as tough. thats just my impressions.

kingjames,
If you do the math using your last game results...131-140 (calculate the average score of the 2)...~135 and divide by 48 minutes (12 min quarters), you get roughly 2.8 pts/minute. Let's say for an overtime game the average score is ~110...you should adjust the quarter time to 10 min, and that should produce a more realistic outcome.
As far as the areas (statistically speaking) that seem a little unrealistic...like the CPUs 3Pt %, I'd recommend adjusting the sliders down (CPU) or up (on user) or both in the applicable areas.
I just got 09, and the biggest problem I've noticed was the lack of fouls and subsequently no Free Throws. I appreciate your thread, it looks like you may have cracked the code on that problem. Thanks!
