Co-Op play on Xbox Live

I'm trying to play NBA Live 09 with a friend on Xbox Live. We prefer to play on the same team, but I can't find a way to do that. I go to Team Play, Play with a Friend, invite him, then we both choose the same team, but when the countdown is done it always says that someone disconnected and it boots us out.

Is playing on the same team just not possible if it is only 2 people?

I believe so, at least outside of Online Team Play.

So how is it done using Online Team Play?

Sorry, we haven't played NBA Live online ever, so I don't know what I don't know.

With Online Team Play, you can either form a club or get a couple of people together for an informal game and search for a random opponent. If you and your friend are in the same club then you're automatically on the same team, but you will be playing other people; it won't just be you and your friend vs the CPU. The CPU will control any unused players but you'll be facing a least a couple of human opponents.
