Some association questions

Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:11 am

1) Are 3PT shots more difficult to drain than in quick games? The Knicks have good shooters but in many games they keep missing open shots, even with training and 3pt icons.

There are moments in the game in which I hit a good amount of shots but sometimes a decent shooter like Harrington misses a lot of open shots and I don't know why.

My 3PT % is only 27%. I raised it to 52 or 53 but had 45% after six games which is too high.

2) Do big men get more steals than guards? I mean cpu players. My big men get more steals than guards with a higher rating. I think it is because of the opposing point guard that makes bad passes from outside into the paint and my big guys deflect the passes.

3) If I play without player roles and team chemistry will players still be affected whether I play them or not? e.g. I have a rookie with an average rating on my roster. Will his ratings be affected if I play him or have him just on the IR all season long?

You just suck at three's. Like me. Practive more with your shot release.

Mine is 53 but I never get 45%. I suck more than you do.

Don't look too much into it. I just consider it when that happens as the player's off night.
I played using Arenas once, I was hitting every midrange and threes possible against the Warriors. When I faced them again, I even can't make one decent midrange shot.

Yeah, happens to me to. I use the Hawks, I always go for the pass interception with Josh Smith. Sometimes Marvin Williams gets the bulk of the steals, other times it's the SG - Johnson or Evans

I don't suck at threes. I usually play with 50 and hit many shots. My shot release is good as well. It is definitely not a release problem.

I have games in which Jamal Crawford hits 3/4 in the first half, Harrington drains 2/3 and my team is like 6/9. From there on I cannot hit a single three, perhaps because of the cpu's comeback logic. I don't want to do without low-range shots and continue with a good amount of shots. I neither force threes nor stop shooting the three but shots won't drop. If I only shot from downtown when my players are on fire or in good form and the cpu does not try to come back my 3P% would be in the 40s BUT I simply do not want to give in to the comeback logic. It pisses me off that a player cannot drain shots in the fourth quarter just because he had a brilliant first half.

Of course it is the other way round if my team is behind in the fourth quarter. Then like four even contested threes (in your face) drop in a row in the last two minutes although clutch factor is OFF.

I really do not have to practice timing as my shot release is perfect or great most of the time.

Even if your shot release is perfect it's not a guarantee. I noticed when I play in practice mode that most of my shots which have a perfect release, most of them don't go in or clank the rim so I just say fuck it.

Have you ever thought about not playing the game, Leander? You complain too much. We can't help you with the glitches of the game.
You should just e-mail the NBA 2K9 production team and tell them about your gripes since the game makes a bitch out of you despite you having a perfect shot release most of the time.

...fun complaining.

What most of the NBA 2K vets at OS say is to play with team chemistry off because it really messes up the game. I agree. It either gives your team too much of a boost or the exact opposite. It's too inconsistent and you can't really see how it affects your team.

You are going to have bad games, the cpu will not let you do the same thing to them all game.

I have been in the same boat thinking a player could not score in the second half. You'll find that the reason for that is actually because you aren't playing as well as you were, you don't have the momentum you had, and the cpu has actually adapted their defense but you just haven't noticed and you are calling it a comeback bug. Now it's your turn to adapt.

Didn't shoot so much from the 3PT line and shot 45%. :) Damn, the Pistons were really, really weak. Won by 6.

cpu has actually adapted their defense.

True, that adaptive AI is noticeable and to some extent can be taken advantage of for a short time, until the CPU adapts to my tricks again.

One such instance was when I used the rare box-one? zone defense.
I was initially using man-to-man, as the CPU initiated the first pass I quickly changed to the box one, I think the AI probably got confused and just immediately threw up a shot, which missed. I did that consecutively about 3-4 times everytime I played on defense.
Even the commentators were saying something like it would be a hundred years before you see a defense like that (box-one zone) again.

Eventually the AI adapted and knew how I used a box-one zone, and like all zone defenses the CPU broke it with good shooting.

Here is one more example, when I played with Bucks Redd did a great job of knocking down threes. But in second half ALONE with PERFECT RELEASE and cant get even one three.I was so mad.Later in the OT(played against the Jazz) i put 3 threes with very early release and they were contested and they still got in + Redd wasnt hot.....
OK tell me now is the thing in release or just the players status....
