Lag was gone...but now back...and gone...and back

Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

Lag was gone...but now back...and gone...and back

What the...?

After installing the patch, all lag was gone. I could play well.
Today I wanted to play and lag was back. The cutscenes at halftime worsened in performance (almost down to a pre-patch level) and the game slightly lagged for one second when my player crossed the half-court line. I kept my settings but switched the resolution down to 640x480...and the lag was still there. LOL I experimented with the crowd and reflection and whatever...without success. It cannot be that lag is gone one day just to come back the next day?!

After installing the patch, the game used to work well with these settings:

1024x768
everything set to high except for a medium crowd
4x MSAA, quality 4

System specs: Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.44, Q6600, 3 GB ram, Geforce 9500 GS... 512 MB ram, Vista 32 bit.
This computer is not a performance beast but a new system with a medium-quality graphic card.

It should be able to run the game at 1024x768, MSAA x4 and high, shouldn't it?

Turn down AA. Consider every #x time on AA to be that many times the card has to draw the frame. Especially with a GS.

Try renaming(keeping the files backed up) the dump.txt file or the speechvariationtracking.dat in the main 2k9 directory, and try deleting the files in the Cache directory, which is in the same directory as the Saves folder. Just something I thought of.

Keep educating the masses Benji. I feel that you and I are the only people who don't like the word lag being used to describe low frame rates.

The game used to work with high settings. Now nothing works. I can turn everything down and still there is...well. Always one second in slow-motion in between.

Yes, I will try to delete this and that.

Edit Deleted the cache...no change. The game looked so good right after installing the patch but now everything sucks.
I cannot back down with Ilgauskas nor Wallace. Ilgauskas is always whistled for five seconds with back what the...

I'm noticing the same thing too. The game stop lagging after I install the patch but later on, it went right back to lagging just as before. What is the cache folder and what does it do. I don't want delete it without knowing what it does first.

Now it appears to be lagging even more than before.

I set the crowd to high and the rest as well. It runs fine but I cannot use MSAA at all. If I use MSAA x2 and set the rest to medium (or even disable reflections etc.), there is some slight lag.

I can play other games with MSAA x8...strange.

what resolution are you playing with?

I mean, MSAA isnt really required if you are using a higher resolution
Opinions are my own.

1024x768. My girlfriend's screen does not support resolutions higher than 1280x960, by the way.
Mine does (1600x1200) but my PC cannot run the game.

The lag fix was a glitch with the patch. It appears the patch was not intended to resolve the lag and it only worked temporary. 2k never specify that the patch was suppose to resolve the lag.
